[Rant]Well last week, I saw the opening of my town's first gaming store in eight years. I wish them luck and hope they prosper.
Now on to what's erking me. The store is owned by friends, and former players in my AoW campaign. During lasts nights FNM tournament, we were taking a break between rounds, we started talking about D&D with a new guy how was interested. Merryc, one of the owners, went on to say it's a fun game and that if he had any questions to ask me, since I know most of the rules off the top of my head. Renee, his friend and a person who acts like he runs the store, added on "Except with him you'll learn how boring D&D is, sorry Laz but that game of yours sucked". Which started a "conversation" over what happened last game.
You see during my last go at DMing Renee had joined our group, not a big thing. Well turn out Renee has a few problems with gaming. One being he doesn't like it when the rules doen't favor his character, and will bring the game to halt until he gets his way or proves that the rules are being misread.
During one of the games Renee and the party were trusted, by a friend of Renee's father, to deliver a container to an acquaintance in a neighboring town. Well Renee took it upon himself to steal the container as soon as they left. His reasoning was, he's CHAOTIC good so why would feel obligateed to help this family friend.
Well the party finally caught up to him and after explaning to them he was going to deliver himself, because it would be faster. The party forgave, but insisted on coming.
Well fast forward some, and the group finds them self in a battle against two trolls. Well as the rounds go by Renee beomes frustrated. He starts to complain that he should be able to have his sneak attack damage every round, not just when he flanks or whenever the trolls are denied dex. This argument lasted well two hours! We ended the game soon after.
Well after we had a simular at the tournament it reminded why I don't gmae much anymore. But I wish that's all that got me going. Come to find out the person I played against in the first round, I lost by the way, had cards in his deck that weren't tournament legal(Type2), well I told Merryc since he was running it.
Well after he finished his last game, Merryc checked his deck and found six cards that were'nt legal. Well come to find out the reason they were in there is because Merryc told this guy the cards were legal the same day.
So Merryc says that by the rules he would be disqualified due to an illegal deck, which sucks being that the store own was the one who said the cards were legal. But he had a better idea. He wouldn't DQ the guy. Instead all the illegal cards to be replaced by land cards.
At this point the gut went to his car to find some land. During this time Renee and Merryc could tell I was fuming. I mean really I just got beat by a guy who was polaying an illegal deck. But they said I had no choice really. It was Merryc's store, and this guy was a new customer who could bring new customers from the air force base. It was just better for the store if he wasn't DQ'd.
And plus "It's not like this a tournament like Regionals or States, Where we have to be so strict with the rules. We can give some leeway, it's not like it was his fault for having those cards", or that's what Renee said atleast.
So the night went on. What would you all do? Even this morning I'm still ticked or what happened. Should I report it? If I do, I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed to return to the store. Which sucks being that finding gamers in this town is rare to begin with. Also the closest gaming store are either in 100 miles away in TX, or 400 miles away in Albuquerque.[/Rant]

Unless you paid money to be in that tournament, I wouldn't worry about it and chalk it up to taking one for the team(ie: the store).
As for Renee, since he's not shy about sharing his opinions regarding your DMing, I would share with him what you really think of his gaming styles. And of course, ban him from ever playing with you again.

The thing is I paid five bucks to enter the tournament.

You paid five bucks to enter a tournament in which you lost a game because the store-owner/organiser 'okayed' a deck which by the rules of that tournament was illegal?
I'm not clear if the store-owner okayed the deck in the first place knowing it to be illegal, or made a mix-up with all these expansions which WotC keep releasing. Did the confusion arise because a new block is rotating in, and the illegal cards were all from one which had just rotated out?

This is how is was explaned to me. Joe, the one with the illegal deck, Came in earlier in the day, and Merryc if cards from the Guildpact set were legal, they're not. Merryc was distracted playing Star Wars with another customer, and said the cards were perfectly legal. So Joe added them to his deck.
Merryc said it was an honest mistake and he would try harder to check the decks before the FNM tournaments, and to make sure to familiarize himself the current Type 2 sets.

I thought that the type of tournament to which you seem to be referring was 'the most recent two blocks, and the current edition'? I may have been out of the game for a while, but I know that Ravnica Block (including Guildpact) rotated out of such tournaments when Lorwyn rotated in. Your shopkeeper must have been really distracted at the time.
If he's a friend, new to organising tournaments (and shopkeeping in general), and not particularly familiar with Magic: The Gathering in general, I might be tempted to let this incident pass, as long as nobody else was defeated by the illegal deck. (He owes you a drink though, at the very least, if not an entry fee refund or discount on your next purchase.)
Edit:
As far as I recall the Wizards of the Coast site has a card search engine called 'The Gatherer' which allows you to compile lists of cards, including by tournament legality. If he had the time and resources, your organiser could print off the list of names of the cards valid for the current tournament encironment with the help of this engine, printing a new list every time a new expansion was released.
