OK, this is a bit of a weird idea but I thought I'd better try it before 4E renders it all but unplayable. The characters are all normal members of their small community who find themselves wrapped up in an adventure. Their fishermen, farmers, bakers, the local wise woman, that kind of thing:
4-6 players
32 pt build
Races: Human, Half-elf (very rare, maybe only 1), halfling
Classes: Adept, Commoner, Expert, Warrior
Feats 'n' Skills:
Skillful - All characters get 2 extra skill points per level. These points must be spent on Craft, Knowledge, or Profession skills only. These bonus parts are multiplied as usual at first level (so 8 skill points useable on Craft, Knowledge, and Profession skills at level 1, and 2 such skill points every subsequent level). In addition, all Craft, Knowledge, and Profession skills are considered class skills for these skill points.
Grounded - All characters get 1 extra bonus feat at first level. This feat must be used for Skill Focus, a +2/+2 skill feat, a Regional feat, or another similar low-power, high-flavor feat. Regional and "other" feats must meet DM approval.
Setting: The Moonshae Isles (from Forgotten Realms) crossed with Le Guin's Earthsea. i.e. more down to earth than FR has become. There's only one 'religion' (if it can be called that) - worship of the Earth Mother, but local spirits are acknowledged and venerated.
The Adventure: adapted version of 1E's 'Treasure Hunt'
Any takers?

Drenith Malcorm is a Male Human Adept who's profession is Mortician. He prepares the dead for burial and sometimes does the final blessings at the funeral proceedings(when the person is not of significent stature to be buried by a full priest). He has some alchemical skills due to needing to know how to prepare the body for return to the Mother. He has some knowledge of the healing arts which comes from study and close work with human bodies to prepare them for interment.
What town are we from? What are stats of the town and any major things I should know that may help for background?
FabesMinis
Whoah, ok - you'll all be from different towns, and I'll only want 1 person to play an Adept, 1 to play a Warrior, and the rest as Experts, Commoners.
Mortician doesn't really exist as a profession, I'm afraid - things are a bit more rustic than that. Funeral rites tend to be much more basic in the northern climes (cairns etc), but the further south you go, people will ask the local wise-person to perform whatever rites there are whilst the family prepares the body.
If you were after Adept, a more pagan route would be the one to go down.
The adventure is set on the Korinn Archipelago (very northern Moonshaes) and I'm going to change things a lot from the novels, both for personal perference and to avoid the whole 'but in the novels it says this syndrome' (not that you would do that, of course) :D

Farrier sounds closer to me. Would include normal blacksmithy/lockbuilding/metalworking skills, but more geared towards a farming community than otherwise - i.e. can fix up foot problems to some extent as well as just bung shoes on. OK. I'll fiddle about along those lines. Any metal constraints I need to know about?

Oooh, I have never done a PBP and this sounds like oodles of fun. Count me in, I shall have a thinky on a character concept :)
EDIT: *returns with ideas*
OK, I've had a bit of a think and my current two favourites are a wise woman/sage running off of expert or a midwife, hopefully both of these work as ideas and if they do I'll wait to see how our 'mortician' develops so I can make sure my character doesn't overlap too much in abilities ;)

After a brief discussion with my husband (who knows the FR really well) I am toying with the idea of stealing away the potential half-elf spot. I was thinking half Moon elf as obviously the elven parent would be more 'travelling through' or exploring as it's a human region and a Sun or Moon elf would be most likely to be doing that.
What do you think? I just quite liked the idea of a sage who has had the time to study but is still quite young, someone different with a bit of mystique to them who wants to connect with the people she advises but finds it hard with her aging a little differently to most.
Just a very rough concept so far but I want to get input before going crazy on a background!
FabesMinis
A half-elf character would have a great deal of mystique and mystery - you would probably have been abandoned and brought up as a foundling.
I feel pretty free to ignore or change canon, so elves are going to be much more mysterious. Hardly anyone has even seen one, let alone met one.
'Tis a lonely road to travel... :) but go for it! Once we have a roster of people and potentials, I'l put together a discussion thread post and set out more background stuff - I don't want to do a massive info-dump before we see how many folks we can get onbaord.

Greetings!
This brings back old memories.
Treasure Hunt was the first AD&D module I played in.
This adventure is a beauty.
Go, get playing.
I will certainly lurk around and follow the PbP-Thread.

Definately interested in trying out this style of play as I haven't done it before and I've always wanted to try a 'common' character play. Even tried it with a few players but they only wanted to play with the 'powers'. So Count Me In! I think a straight-out commoner squire would be just the thing to be, like a caddy for a golfer. "Squire XXVII, I don't think my sword is very effective. Pass me my mace, would you?" "Excellent choice of weapons, sir. Light or Heavy?" Maybe he's unemployed because his last employer didn't have the right weapon available and the opponent simply couldn't be bothered to kill the nobody, so now he is without employ, no prospects, and is desperately trying to find someone to attach himself to. Yeah let's go with that.

Hello I am interested in playing. I have been longtime player in the Realms, but this will be my first PbP. I have few question:
32 point build: What are our starting stats 8 or 10. Is this a start 1:1 point exchange or the tiered 1:1 then 2:1 after a curtain stat and if so what stat.
Regional Feats and starting equipment: With the bouns feat given to us are we still restriced to only one regional feat or may we have two. Do we get the bonus starting equipment for our region and if so may we choose not to take it and gain the extra 100 in starting gold as per the Player's Guide to Faerun?
Finally I would like to play a Human Warrior specially a Ffolk milita man looking to keep safe his loved ones, friends, and community from outsiders that are known to bring trouble in their wake.
Thanks hope to hear from you soon.

I don't have the Player's Guide to Faerun or indeed the 3E FR Campaign book. I'm basing the setting more on my own ideas, as well as the 1E FR boxed set (with some fairly radical departures).
The point builds are as per the DMG - so they all start at 8 and it's 1:1, but 15 - 8 points, 16 - 10 points, 17 - 13 points, 18 - 16 points.
In fact, I'll probably rack it down to a 25 point build. I;ll start up a discussion thread now there are 4 definites.4
A militiaman will be fine - he won't have seen much action, and will have another 'proper' job as well. More stuff to follow in the Discussion thread.

25 points, eh? Am I going to be a common commoner or what? Lets see...
Stats
Skills
Feats
Finally, could I have some random pieces of equipment from my old employer? I think I could use these as selling points to anyone who is looking to recruit me. Sometimes I'm not quite sure what is in that backpack, but it has a great story behind it
ZioKai
Ok I almost have him ready I just need to now is it 1st level? And I will be taking a regional feat called Strong Soul it has the following stats:
Prerequisite: Human from Moonshae Isle or humaniod from other regions.
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all Fortitude and Will saves. Against death affects, energy drain, and ability drain, this increases to +3.
If this is ok then I will post him.
FabesMinis
I don't have Complete Scoundrel, I'm afraid, so no can do.
ZioKai - That feat looks good.

Hmm i'm interested in playing in a pbp. Never done it before but i'd like to try and besides my wife Kayos mentioned she was doing this and i might never get her attention otherwise :)
Actually I kid on that but we rarely get to RP together with characters as we both DM for our group in turns. If it was ok i think i might be tempted to play a commoner or an expert. I have many ideas so if you're happy for me to be involved i'll get to making one of them into something character shaped.

Cool. Would there be a place for something like the kennel man type role? I kinda like the idea of the expert who is quite good at hunting and trains Moonshae hunting hounds. That kind of thing. Possible for an important person or maybe not and i would like to make it almost middle aged rather than standard starting age if that would be ok?
