Magnimar vs Korvosa Confusion on My Part

So, I'm trying to figure out the general background of the 2 big cities from the first 2 AP's.

The ROTR PG says the Chelish traditionalists migrated West to found Magnimar. Yet, PF's 2 (Magnimar Article) and 3 (Varisia article) say that Magnimar seeks to break away from the Korvosan Chelish aristocracy.

Am I just not getting it, or is there a contradiction here? I read it as a mistake in the PG.

Magnimar was founded by tradtionists who supported the old Chelish theocracy not the recent regime that turned to Devil worship after the death of the god Aroden.

Yes. What Cold Steel said. We've unfortunately done a poor job of differentiating between Imperial Cheliax and Infernal Cheliax. The founders of Magnimar were all about Imperial Cheliax and are pretty much against Infernal Cheliax. The people who stayed in Korvosa are all about Cheliax in general, Imperial or Infernal.
