Booyah! Let me know what class you want to play, I'm liking Blademaster, Engineer, or Marksman myself.
For those that don't know the game, if you liked Diablo II's loot drops, random maps, rare monsters, and socketing items/Horadric cube recipes, this is like that, but in 3d and in the post-apocalyptic future. Also, you can find the following easter eggs:
- Wirt - I mean, Wart, I mean Lil' Joey and his prosthetic leg
- Sleestak
- The TARDIS from Doctor Who
- A truly addictive minigame
An overview of HL is here for those that are unfamiliar with the game.

There's also this interesting video that got my roommate hooked on Hellgate London. (Though the beginning is misleading, there really is a music video after the weird Soviet statue thingie.)
Her: Paladins with GUNS! SQUEE!
Me: And high heels... ?

Booyah! Let me know what class you want to play, I'm liking Blademaster, Engineer, or Marksman myself.
I loaded up last night, and played for two hours. (yawn).
I ended up making a Guardian (paladin in power armor!), since I SOOOO dig the power armor visual effects, and love the auras like in Diablo 2. Made it to Covent Station and made myself stop at midnight. I've now got a Toxic Sword loaded up with poison fuel cells. It's sick! Literally! ;)
The problem is that I want to play ALL the classes, not just a couple. The evoker chick in the opening segment ROCKED! And my Guardian kept getting really cool drops of guns and marksman stuff, so I kept wanting a character that could USE them!
(sigh) There goes my sleep time for the next few months......
As for the mediocre reviews...I think many of these were done pre-release/at release. I certainly had no problems with glitches, and the play is Diablo 1 & 2, but looking like LOTR Online or D&D Online. I am perfectly pleased thus far.
| Lilith |
Yeah, all of the classes are pretty fun. Evoker was a bit more difficult for me, they're a bit weak solo. Could be fun with a buddy though. The blademaster is fun with a grappler/sword combo. :D So's dual-wielding a pistol and a sword. So's getting a rare sniper rifle with 7 mod slots on it for your Engineer. Mmm...
Also found out that once you get the right skills as an Engineer, you can mod your bots with armor and weapons. And swords. Mwah-hah. I can also literally make a healbot.
I lucked out and got two special edition pets - the Mantawraith and the Cocomoko (from PC Gamer). Sadly, I can only use them online. I haven't been inspired to pick up the subscription yet, but I may, if the multiplayer portion sells me (haven't done that part yet either).

I check this out and it looks cool as all hell.!
One question does the game resemble Diablo 2 or WOW?
It's a MMORP right?
Think if Diablo II had a baby with WoW. The quest structure is WoW-like (get a quest from NPC, return for reward), but the gameplay is more Diablo II. I think of it as MMO-lite - you don't have to subscribe to play (though doing so gives you goodies), but the multiplayer component is online.

When can we blow stuff up Timitus? :D I got a hankering for demon killings.
(sigh) Probably not this weekend. I went low-tech tonight and played a board game (Carcassonne) with my wife. Tomorrow night we are going out (sans kids!). Sunday, we're playing D&D.
Soon, though. I'm Pacific time zone, and I can usually play a couple hours, from 8-10 PM, on weeknights. How's that work?
Oh, and anyone want to join us for a throwdown with demonkind on the streets of London? It's hellafun!

Timitus: That'll work fabulously, as I'm in Pacific time myself. How's Monday sound for some demon killings?
I think Monday night (tonight) will be OK...my wife mentioned watching "Pan's Labyrinth" tonight, though. I'll have to see what's up.
I'm not sure exactly how the MP "find a player" routine works, but I've read up on the commands and stuff. How about we meet in the chatroom first?

And there was much demon killings...Big Ben fall down! Go boom!
Somehow, Big Ben is always a push-over. Lord Wassitsname, the spectral Bone Demon guy....now he was TOUGH! (grumble, grumble, spectral damage)
Thanks for the game, Lilith! It was great fun! Sorry I didn't reply to your "sign off" though...I was shopping, and unfortunately that chat screen goes away whilst you do that. Doh!
I also hope I wasn't hording all the kills. Guardians tend to be best when they wade into the fray...but between your crazy shooting and your bots, that fray got a whole lot wider! :D
Oh, and mowing down zombies on the stairway ROCKED.
Altogether, AWESOME game, very fun in multiplayer.
Come on you Paizoians...get in the fight now!

Lord Nyssalor. Yeah. >.>
The first time I was playing through the game, Lord Nyssalor was RIGHT AT THE ENTRANCE. And had regenerating. O.O (I got a good loot drop from it, so it was worth it.)I also hope I wasn't hording all the kills. You weren't hoarding kills - I know the Guardian's forte is melee, so I thought I'd stand back and let you have at it and support your flanks from attacks.
I like guns! Guns are great! Now that I've got the automatic rifle, there will be more killings. I also got the rocket launcher. Mwah-hah.
Those bots are damn handy. Those inhibitor bots are really handy for early detection and slowing down the speedy guys. The other too just blow stuff up, I can't wait until I can equip the melee bot with swords and/or guns.
Come on you Paizonians...get in the fight now!
London needs you!!!
The best part of the game I'm finding is the "pick up and put down" aspect of it. It was pretty darn easy to get together, go blow some demons out of their bobby socks, and be satisfied with the time put in with the game. No 40 man raid prereqs just to progress in the game, just damn happy fun. (For the crafting obsessed *cough* me *cough*, there is enough tweakage to satisfy. And the minigame.)

Preach on Sister! Testify!
Yes, I really like the fact that "quests" don't take SEVERAL HOURS (D&D Online, I'm talkin' 'bout YOU!) to complete. I can't believe we got up to Covent Station and through 2 quests in a couple hours! The socketed weapons are great, although I haven't seen those in armor yet. :(
I tried to adhere to the minigame last night, but they gave me electrical damage as a goal, and I had no electrical weapons. Tough to win that one. I DID however play around with my shield bash feat. I had to laugh when I waded into some demons and smacked them silly with the shield, seeing them stagger around.
I'm ready for Round 2 soon!

Played the single player game last night for about six hours. Finally got my construct drone to be modable with guns. Mwah-hah.
Oh and Chocolate Park? Sucks. O.o
Worse than the Museum? O.o indeed.
I haven't been able to play since Monday. Tuesday we put away all the Xmas stuff. Last night I needed to finish up my Dark Ihn rogue for a homebrew D&D campaign we are going to play over the internet with MapTools and Ventrilo.
Maybe...maybe tonight.
Oh, and I convinced my boss to get it. He's been asking for pointers in the office, and we get some strange looks when we start talking... like about how blood zombies keep coming even when you blow the upper part of their body away.
Now why would people not understand the coolness of that?
| Lilith |
No. The Museum was bad. Very very bad. Damn fiend masters... O.O
Chocolate Park
The Park is big, wide, open, and full of zombies and these creatures called Apocalypse Walkers. The walkers attack from above in a flame strike-like fashion. There's also these tornadoes that suck away your HP.
I won't spoil the story. ;)
The pop-culture references in this game are hilarious though. :D

So, I played SP last night with my markswoman...
The approach to Charing Cross Station was brutal, as I kept running into objects, only to get stuck and then warped back to beginning portal and find the zone completely respawned. This happened THREE times!!!!!
Picadilly Circus was pretty cool, though. Never been there, so I don't know how accurate the depiction is.

It's creepily accurate. I found a spectral sniper rifle particularly handy there.
Edit: They've finally posted the difference between subscriber/non subscriber multiplayer.

OK Lilith....Chocolate Park. Done.
Not nearly as bad as your run. All I had were zombies and flying toxic imps. The boss was nothing new, either. However, the moving hell-fog really did a number on me! And the park was loaded with rare, legendary, and unique creatures...so some pretty sweet drops.
My best drop = a rare cinderpick. 90 dmg w/o mods!
Started an evoker as well, which plays much differently from a Guardian or Marksman. I wonder if they will add-on a necromancer class soon....?

No fears - I am having trouble connecting to the server. :(
Edit: It appears I am not the only one.
Let me know when you get back on - going to play single player until they get it figgered out.

Wow. It's like 11 pages of "I can't log in! WTF?"
LOL!
At least it's not the patch I just installed.
Shall we try again tomorrow night? Or just slot it to next Wed.?

Let's try again for next Wednesday. I imagine there's issues because of the Stonehenge patch. (Sadly, I are busy tomorrow... :( )
Sounds good. I need to go to bed before midnight sometime this week!
BTW, I played SP instead, and finished Millenium Battle, where I ran into those Goliath things. O_o Luckily, I just dropped into my Guardian stance and stabbed them in the crotch! ;)

I'm a little bit behind you Timitius - going through Whitehall/Downing Street/Millenium Battle arc right now. I don't know if I found the graphics sweet spot, but man the game ran gorgeously for me. And I don't know if the patch increased the likelihood of hidden side areas, but I went to two areas and I got two hellrifts and one treasure passageway. Weird.
Fatespinner, won't you join use with an Evoker raining down fire from the heavens?

No, I've been getting extra hellrifts and treasure passageways quite a bit, too, and that was before the new patch. I think it may be either the level we're at now, OR if you are decked out in some Luck +XX gear. I got myself quite a bit of alternate gear with extra Luck, and it results in Rare drop after Rare drop. My Guardian is fully loaded in Rares and Legendaries now.
Yeah, Fatespinner, the more the merrier!

So, for those of you who have hellgate london . . . I've got some questions for ya . . .
I've heard a lot of things about this game, and one that intriqgued me is that I heard that after the intial cost of the game, there is the option to not pay for a subscription and yet still have access to the on-line part.
I'm currently playing Guild Wars for that specific reason, no monthly fee. I'm curious if the non-subscriber options of HG:L would be worth it to pick up.
Can sub and non-subs group up in the on-line area, or are the diverted to different servers and such. I've heard that HG:L and GW are very similar in a lot of ways. (not suprizing if they were both created by those who broke off from blizzard.)
Should I look into HG:L, or stay with GW and just look forward to GW2 . .

My friend and I are thinking of picking this up (Beginnng to think about life after WoW) and I've heard some good things about it (mainly here and at wcradio.com) but alot of people and reviews have it pegged as not so great (average review seems to be something like 4-7/10). My gut instinct is to still get the game, but is it really as great as it looks?
Also, if I do get it, I'd love to join you all, but timezone might be a problem *sigh*.
