Ways to increase wizard level for arcane school abilities above your character level?

Advice

I'm looking to build a controller wizard and love the concept of the Irresistible Demand ability. I can easily see it losing power with the HD limitation. I know the Robe of Arcane Heritage increases the sorcerer level for a sorcerer's bloodline powers, but haven't found something similar for wizards and their arcane school abilities.

Anyone know of anything that increases your effective wizard level for Arcane School abilities?

The Archmage path ability Mythic School will increase your effective level for school ability by 4 levels. It does not grant powers at an earlier level but does increase the level of the powers you already have. This only works in a mythic game so not sure it will be of any use.

Yeah, wouldn't mind not getting them earlier, but would like the power to affect a higher HD of creature. Unfortunately not playing a mythic game, but thanks!

There are a number of ways to increase your caster level for casting spells - but not many for actually raising your level for School Powers

Varisian Tattoo can give +1 caster level to a specific school
Shocking Robe (etc) can give +1 Caster levels for electricity spells
Exploiter Wizard (Potent MAgic) can give +2 Caster level to a spell
Aasimar with Heavenborn trait can cast good/light spells at +1 Caster level

I know none of those help your situation, but I'm sure someone would ask.

sure - Magical Knack trait but it is to keep your caster level at your Character level... so you could pick up 2 levels of Cleric/Oracle/Druid and still maintain CL in wizard.

Honestly Wiz doesn't need a bump. School Wizards are the most powerful class beyond 7th level. They even can spare up to two levels carefully multiclassing and not suffer too much.
There are simple ways to boost the effectiveness of mind-affecting spells, Hypnotism:E1, Itching Curse:N1, Heckle:E2, Bestow Curse:N3, & Mind Fog:E5 come to mind.

there is another way via a divine based Mystic Theurge who naturally casts arcane spells as divine spells and may then use Prayer Beads [slotless] $9600/45800/95800 to increase the CL of any divine spell cast...

Prayer Beads increase your caster level which only affects spells. The OP is asking about school abilities, not spells. So, the Prayer Beads will not do what he wants.

Mystic Theurge also does not advance your school powers or any other class features besides spell casting. A mystic theurge would actually make the situation worse.

Take one level of arcanist and the school understanding exploit. Then take the story feat "Supernatural Spy", get the completion benefit for a +2 to your effective level for your an exploit.

You can pump it up a little more by being a Vanara and taking mostly arcanist levels and one wizard level instead of the other way around and taking the Vanara favored class option for arcanist.

I don't think I've found any other way to do it.

This is only going to result in an increase when the character spends a point from their arcane pool. It also means that when the character is not boosting the ability it is actually lower than normal. In addition to that it will cost the character a caster level on the wizard side. Sure, they get more 1st level spells, but at the expense of their higher-level spells. This does not look like a good idea.

Thanks for the effort everyone. Pretty convinced there’s just no way to do this and it’s probably purposefully that way. A lot of arcane school abilities would break quickly with a 2 level boost. I am going to use some of these ideas for caster level boosts though.

good to know the tangents will be used even if complained about... 8^0

Why would it only boost when they spend a point? According to the last line of the school understanding exploit, "If the arcanist already has an arcane school (or gains one later), taking this exploit instead allows her arcanist levels to stack with the levels of the class that granted the arcane school when determining the powers and abilities of her arcane school.". Am I missing something.

I agree that it's not really worth it regardless. It's a way to pick up otherwise barred abilities in level capped games, and that's about it.

Quote:

The arcanist can select one arcane school from any of the schools available to a character with the arcane school wizard class feature, but does not have to select any opposition schools. The arcanist gains one ability of that arcane school as though she were a 1st-level wizard, using her Charisma modifier in place of her Intelligence modifier for this ability. The ability must be one gained at 1st level and is limited in its use per day to 3 + the arcanist’s Charisma modifier. As a swift action, the arcanist can expend 1 point from her arcane reservoir to bolster her understanding, allowing her to treat her arcanist level as her wizard level for the purpose of using this ability for a number of rounds equal to her Charisma modifier (minimum 1). During this time, she also gains use of the other ability gained at 1st level for her selected school. She does not gain any other abilities when using this exploit in this way, such as those gained at 8th level.

If the arcanist already has an arcane school (or gains one later), taking this exploit instead allows her arcanist levels to stack with the levels of the class that granted the arcane school when determining the powers and abilities of her arcane school.

People often miss abilities like this that do one thing and then have an alternative that does something fairly different.

I wonder how many people miss that warpriest fervor can be used to cast spells, because the large first part of text is all about being a weaker lay on hands.

Only the ones who don’t know Divine Favour is a spell.
