Liberty's Edge

Out of curiosity, how many Paizo designers/writers have degrees in the humanities and how many have degrees in the sciences? How many of you come from IT backgrounds versus MFAs, teaching, or business? I'm wondering because I've always thought of RPG types as a mix of science and English nerds in HS, and the ones who continue to play in college and beyond are invariably humanities majors; yet I've recently discovered that many actual designers were straightlaced science geeks.

I have an BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College in Boston (Class of '96). I also did some graduate work in English at the University of Minnesota, but that was interrupted when I got a chance to edit Polyhedron at Wizards of the Coast in 1999.

Not sure if you're asking about the Paizo staff or anyone who has written for the magazines, but in case you're applying the broader definition--I have a B.S. in Criminal Justice (yes...a B.S. not a B.A...). I don't have a "used to be life" as I'm still employed in the criminal justice field.

Well...I bet my old group that Paizo is mostly staffed by Humanities majors; they (my old group) bet me it's mostly Sciences...luckily, since only two designers responded, I moved before I had to fork over close to a hundred bucks in pizza...I suppose I might have won ex post facto, if anyone bothered to read a more recent post asking how to get into the industry (insomuch as what to study at university), but, I'd like to thank Eric and Stefan for their responses... :-/
