Dungeon iconic game

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

so iw as reading a thread about the 350 cover, and it got me thinking.

Wouldn't it be cool to stat all those iconics. We know little about them except their pictures. So i just thought maybe I'd try to give them classes and stuff. Thought maybe some other people might wanna try their hand at it too. I'm gonna try to stick to the core books and the core 11 classes. I'm also gonna probably do a point buy. Lemme know if anybody else wants to give it a try. we can maybe set some ground rules.

I'll post again after thinking more about it, let me know your ideas.
Thanks,
Jay

Neat idea! If I get some spare time, I'll try to come up with something. If I count correctly, there are 11 iconics. At a glance we have:

male half-elven rogue (longsword and shortsword, perhaps)
female tiefling fighter (longsword or bastard sword and sickle)
female human wizard (evoker?, with improved familiar)
male dwarven barbarian (battleaxe and tower shield, perhaps?)
male drow bard (whip and short/longsword; I've seen him in other pics with it)
female elven druid (spear and deionychus? companion)
female human cleric of Wee Jas (Tyralandi Scrimm, no doubt; with Tomb-Tainted Soul feat from Libris Mortis [inflict spells heal her, cure spells harm her])
male human monk (occasionally wields a quarterstaff, not pictured)
male human wizard (maybe sorcerer, specialty unknown, though the lightning bolt suggests evocation)
female elven? ranger (wields a longbow, could be composite)
male human paladin (with longsword and potentially tower shield)

I think that's it for the iconics pictured. Lets hope we see a bunch of versions of these guys. Could be cool. I'll probably start on the tiefling fighter, who I've liked from my first glance at #124. (Don't tell her I have a crush, or she'll rip out my intestines.)

I think he used a rapier.

Mr. Jacobs posted her actual stats on another thread. I don't see a need to stat her up - she's the only iconic we actually have stats for.

I'm pretty sure it has been stated that he's a sorcerer.

I also think the dwarf is a cleric, not a barbarian.

Did I miss anything?

Ah! The dwarf is a barbarian. For some reason I thought he was a cleric.

There I go, disseminating misinformation

The wizard is a conjurer, I'm pretty sure.

Dark Archive

Which wizard, the male or female? Maybe the dark-skinned male is a sorecerer? We have the stats fof the cleric. I'll give the tiefling fighter a try:

Hey, you saved me some work! That tiefling looks perfect! I'd be inclined to say that wicked looking sword she usually uses (Dungeon #125 cover, notwithstanding) can't be just any old longsword.

I'm guessing she loves evocation, though, as well. I've seen her use burning hands, lightning bolt, fireball, and bigby's crushing hand in the STAP images. If I could ask, what are her banned schools? I like the idea of a specialist wizard as an iconic, BTW, and she's a real change from the "Merlin and Gandalf" variety, as mentioned in the table of contents caption from the issue she was on the cover of. (Whoops...there I go, ending my sentences with prepositions.)

There's only one wizard: the blonde with the dragonfly-wing cloak and the quasit. The black guy's a sorcerer.

And while she's a conjurer, she certainly DOES like the evocation spells. Although that's mostly because they're the most fun to illustrate.

Alright, the Male Sorcerer has always been my favorite for some reason. Here's my take on him, I took a few liberties with him regarding the parts of him that were unknown, but tried to stay true to what was drawn in the mags. 25 point buy, using only the "Core 3", full gold.

Obasi Asad (aka Obasi "the Lion"): Male human Sorcerer 1; Medium-size humanoid; HD 1d4+2+3*(toughness feat); hp 9; Init +5; Spd 30 ft; AC 11, touch 11, flat-footed 10; BAB +0, Grp +1, Atk +1 (1d8+1/x3, spear), or Atk +1 (1d8+1/x2, knobkierie), or Atk +1 (1d4+1/19-20, jambiya); AL CG; SV Fort +2, Ref +1, Will +1; Str 13, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 8, Cha 14

Spells: (4) 1st - burning hands, shield
(5) 0 - detect magic, ghost sound, light, read magic

Familiar: None (if he had one, perhaps a Serval Cat - same stats as regular cat, +2 to his Move Silently skill)

Skills and Feats: Concentration +3, Hide +2, Intimidate +4, Knowledge (arcana) +4, Move Silently +3, Spellcraft +3; Improved Initiative, Toughness

Languages: Common, Draconic

Height: 6 ft. 1 in.
Weight: 165 lbs.
Hair: Bald
Eyes: Brown

Possessions: spear, knobkierie (african club - treat as heavy mace), jambiya (treat as regular dagger), robe, golden earrings (3 gp), fetishes (spell components), 2 pieces of tanned lion's hide (for scrolls), scrollcase, peacock feather quill, rations (3), bedroll, backpack, pouches, torch, whetstone, Shaman's Bag - holds alchemist's fire (2), smokestick, thunderstone; 3 gp

Notes: Alright, he has somewhat of an exotic african/lion hunter/mystic theme here. I've seen him cast burning hands and shield in the pictures. He isn't ever seen with a weapon (well, once, with a kukri - being knocked out of his hands), so I gave him some. He's not designed for munchkin playing, so yes, some people will have criticisms.

For feats - didn't make much sense for him to take Eschew Materials yet (only his cantrips have material components), or Spell Focus (evocation).

Why dont you guys stat them at 20th level like they would be when they are actually going to be fighting Demegorgon?

Dark Archive

Mainly, because that would take several hours, which I don't have to spend right now.

Yeah, I just made Obasi similar to the pregens we got for D0. Just made him 1st level, if someone wants to expand upon it after that, be my guest.

Liberty's Edge

In the interest of reviving a seemingly dead post, I would like to propose that we stat up the "cast" of Dungeon #150 as if they were running through a Pathfinderized STAP. Using Pathfinder Society build rules (and a randomly generated name from the CRB) I present the first "iconic" on the list - Male Dwarf Barbarian.

All the artwork I can find depicting the Dwarven Barbarian shows him with a mere axe (dwarven waraxe) and a very tall shield (tower). So, in the interest of keeping him as depicted, I had to skip Power Attack in favor of Tower Shield Proficiency.

Grunyar
Male dwarf Barbarian 1
CN Medium humanoid (dwarf)
Init +1; Senses Darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +5
DEFENSE
AC 20, touch 11, flat-footed 19 (+5 armor, +4 shield, +1 Dex)
hp 16 (1d12+4)
Fort +5, Ref +1, Will +1
OFFENSE
Speed 30 ft.
Melee dwarven waraxe +4 (1d10+3/x3)
Ranged throwing axe +2 (1d6+3/×2)
Special Attacks rage (7 rounds/day)
Raging Statistics When raging, Grunyar’s stats are AC 18; hp 18; Fort +7, Will +3; Melee dwarven waraxe +6 (1d10+5/x3); Ranged throwing axe +2 (1d6+5/×2); CMB +6; Skills Climb +5.
SQ fast movement
STATISTICS
Str 16, Dex 13, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 10
Base Atk +1; CMB +4; CMD 15
Feats Tower Shield Proficiency
Skills Climb +7, Intimidate +4, Perception +5, Survival +5; Armor Check Penalty -4
Languages Common, Dwarven
Combat Gear acid flask; Other Gear scale mail, dwarven waraxe, tower shield, throwing axe, backpack, bedroll, caltrops, flint and steel, hemp rope (50 ft.), shovel, torches (5), trail rations (4), waterskin, 11 gp

Critique and comment (while I stat up the Drow Bard).
