Hi,
I was wondering what kind of XP DM's are giving for defeating Orak? My players knocked him out, they had no probs hitting him due to 11AC (no armor). He's definately not worth a CR4, i was think for like CR2.

none. XP should only be given if the party overcomes a challenge of the apropriate level.
If the PC's managed to get information out of Orak (such as the fact that Drakthar is a vampire, or that his bathhouse has been used to smugle thugs into the city), that would be worth some XP. CR4 sounds acurate enough in that case.

My group knocked him out and tied him up. I also found him to be weak but the truth is that they did overcome him as an obstacle. It took them until the end of the second session of the adventure to get their thumbs out of their rears and acctually do something about the dwarf.
They used the magic mace in St Cuthberts temple that pointed ti the dwarf. The thief-lady had told them the goblins came from the dwarfs bathhouse. They even fought the were-rats. Still they weren't sure if they realy should confront the dwarf.
So when they did I gave them the full XP award.

I gave full XP, while Orak was less of challenge combat-wise, it did present a roleplaying obstacle (not to mention appropriate skill checks) and my party did go through the trouble of knocking him unconscious and bringing him to a Jenya to have a look at.

If they had just killed him outright I would of not given any xp at all since it was clear the dwarf was acting unusually.
IMC, although players knew something was wrong with orak, they killed him anyway. I didn't gave him any XP and Terson Skellerak rebuke the globin ear reward for killing him. No more repercusions where made because they discobered and eliminated the vampire menace.
