I feel foolish asking this, but...

Card & Board Games

I can't seem to find the submission guidelines for Undefeated anywhere? I found the Dungeon, Dragon, and Amazing Stories guidelines, but for the life of me I can't find a link to the guidelines for Undefeated.

Am I blind, or are you not accepting submissions currently, or...?

I would appreciate someone pointing them out to me (and possibly pointing at me and laughing, if they're obvious!) ;)

The submission guidelines for Undefeated are found in the website FAQ:

Please send a previously published sample of your work to undefeated@paizo.com or mail it to us at:
Paizo Publishing
Attn: Undefeated
2700 Richards Road
Suite 201
Bellevue, WA 98005-4200

(And no one's laughing at you, promise! :-)

Aha, thanks. I didn't look there.

As I've not been previously published anywhere, I guess that kind of rules out submitting to Undefeated.

But thank you for the prompt reply. Now I'll know where to look when I check back in the future to see if you're considering submissions from unpublished would-be authors. :)

Not so fast, Jason. "Previously published" can include on the internet. Web articles and in-depth messageboard posts have earned more than one contributor a spot in the magazine.

That doesn't mean you need to go and host your own website either. Go to the fan site of your choice and start writing messageboard posts about what you think makes an interesting read. If you do well, your readers will let you know. If you need some inspiration, look to your all-time favorite articles and authors and think about what made those great experiences for you.

The best advice I can give you:
1) Don't swing for the fences your first time out. Odds are you won't hit a home run and you shouldn't be disappointed because you don't.
2) If you really want to get published, write a lot. The more you write, the better you'll get and the more opportunities you'll have to be critiqued.

I look forward to hearing from you when you've got something you'd like to show me.

Thank you for the advice!

I do frequent several messageboards and fan sites, although I think my posts on them are a bit too loose and off-the-cuff to submit as a sample; I would want to submit something that represents my best effort.

I'll put something together that fits that description and send it in. Again, the advice is much appreciated!
