The mount of statistical data would be a chore for the programmer, I know. Someone (not me!) do this ;)

I saved this link http://www.dinglesgames.com/tools/MonsterGenerator/dnd35/ in my phone-browser, so I could get by like that for a while. Didn't realize this site had PF NPC generator, too. Pretty neat :)

So, as a DM, sometimes you'll need to make up stuff on the fly. It would be nice to be able to generate an NPC instantly without the need of a laptop or computer near by. So, here is my idea:

Someone (not me, because I don't know how to program) should develop an app that can use 3/3.5/PF rules to generate NPCs and Monsters on the fly, and be able to modify and raise levels as needed. This kind of app may exist for iphone users, but I use an Android-based phone.

The current D&D apps are mostly for 4th Edition, or just roll dice, or the GUI's are ugly as balls. There are two Spell book apps, one for PF and one for 3.5, which are nice, but more helpful tools would be nice too.

This could be expanded to use other RPG systems, which would also be cool.

As far as generic fantasy roleplaying goes, D20 gets the job done, but I realllyyyy love Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition. Combat is brutal and hilarious. I still want to try 3rd edition, but I don't have the $$ to put into it, and I don't like all the little knick-knacky crap they sell with it. If you can't play a pen and paper game with just pen and paper, then something is wrong.... miniature combat not withstanding.

This game is pretty fun. Once we got the rules down, play was pretty smooth.

Minor gripes:
- Half of the hero mini's looked the same, so we kept getting confused as to who was who.
- Rules written kind of vaguely.

Since its' a board game, it can't quite adequately capture the atmosphere of the Ravenloft setting like a 2E/3E campaign could (with a good DM, of course). This was my main gripe with the game, but it was an unreasonable expectation set by me.

I guess I was expecting character choices to be a little bit more geared to the setting as well, but what can ya do?

You could say ... this thread is relevant to my interests. I have read through the rulebook now, so I have a pretty good understanding about how the mechanics work. My normal gaming buddy and I want to get in a game before I move to WA (from TX) in two weeks.

A peeve of mine is when I buy a new system, only to find it's only a thinly coated veneer of another. For example, I was pretty stoaked when Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd edition came out. Until I took a good hard look at the numbers, and realized that I would basically just be playing D&D 3rd edition, except rolling d% instead of d20s.

Exact. Same. System.

Granted, character generation and leveling were different, so it wasn't, strictly speaking, all that obvious. But you peel that all away, it was d20 without the d20s.

Maybe I was playing a different edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay... but the version I played was nothing like D&D 3rd edition. It was VASTLY more brutal, and down to earth. Magic wasn't nearly as 'friendly.'

Late to the party on this one. But I agree with Kyrt, here. The combat is way more brutal and debilitating. Leveling up is not the same at all, and the career system is nothing like D20.

A friend of mine are running a WHFR 2E game right now. It has been one of my favorite campaigns I have ever been in.
