Hi! I'm James. I'm a cis/het male. I like writing characters of all kinds, but I feel a certain reluctance when I write and play a female-presenting character because I'm concerned I may be playing into stereotypes or potentially misrepresenting the experience of female-presenting individuals. I don't want to cause offense or make people uncomfortable. I'm not asking for someone to tell me it's okay, rather I'm asking for advice to avoid the pitfalls of playing into stereotypes or falling into the classic "men writing women" tropes you see in most fantasy and sci-fi.

One thing I've been doing is avoiding gender in the writing process until I'm deciding on appearance, leaving it out of the backstory entirely until I'm finalizing the minor details, but that comes with the concern of erasure and omitting someone's gender identity can be as harmful as misrepresenting it, as gender is a big part of life.

I would love to hear what you folks think and how I can improve my RP in a meaningful way. Is even asking this insensitive? I hope that this can be a productive discussion with as little trolling and namecalling as possible. Thanks so much, and I hope you have a good one!

So, I've decided to play an Android Operative in a game of Starfinder and I was looking at the upgrade slot. I'm considering using a Quick Release Sheath as the upgrade his person. How would that work? I imagine that it would be similar to the reboot of Robocop, but I was thinking that his weapon (the tactical semi-automatic pistol) would come from his arm instead and be delivered to his hand. Thoughts?

So, one of the requirements of being a druid is reverence of nature, however the urban Druid archetype doesn't live among the natural world. Further, the character Luma in the novel "Blood of the City" doesn't seem to hold any reverence for nature any more than her half siblings. However, she does seem to be in tune with what she calls the "citysong," a plot device used to show her connection to the city. Does something like this replace a reverence for nature, sort of a love of your city? I ask because I'm playing in the Hell's Rebel's AP, which takes place in Kintargo primarily. Thanks!

I'm looking for a game, I feel my character would be a good fit for any campaign. Feel free to take a look at his backstory and stats.

I realize that in most mythologies vampires require no sustenance beyond the life energy found in blood. But, as a Halfling, would I still crave that flagon of mead, or that roast mutton turning slowly over the fire to succulent perfection? Do vampires have functioning taste buds? What of the living survives undeath?

Can other races beyond humans produce dhampirs? I know that if I want to, I can house rule it, but I was wondering what some other people thought about it. Thoughts, suggestions?

ok, so I have been working on a dhampir inquisitor for my wife's Carrion Crown campaign. I went with the kinslayer archetype from the ARG. I also took the fangs trait and the Blood Drinker feat at first level. His patron is Pharasma, and so I need to stay one step from true neutral. My qeustion is this: Although he has a burning hatred for the undead, especially vampires, he tries no to harm innocents as a personal code. However, there are times when his blood thirst becomes too much for him to control, say when he hasn't "fed" in a while and sees someone cut themselves shaving, or in a particularly bloody fight or something like that. So he goes for the source of fresh blood, say if he fights bandits, and just tears into their throats. Where would you put him as far as alighnment. He strives to protect the innocent, but has these sanguinary cravings that counters his code. And to head off what I know to be forthcoming, the feat specifically states that it has to be blood from the living, and one type of humanoid, in this case humans.

My wife is planning on running Carrion Crown, and like almost everyone else on these messageboards, I'm planning on running a Dhampir Inquisitor. My wife is open to 3rd party suppliments rules, and I found one that has it so that the dhampir, while not as keenly as his undead parent, has a need to drink the blood of his foes.

The Thirst for Blood wrote:

Different races have idiosyncrasies that open up interesting roleplaying opportunities. Gnomes often have an innate verbose loquacity that befuddles outsiders. Dwarves are well known as gruff, thick‐voiced ale‐lovers. Elves often appear as serene, aloof, even self‐aggrandized academics.
However, playing a dhampir brings its own unique challenge. Despite the fact that they eat normal food, dhampir feel a diminished version of the burning thirst for blood that drives vampires to kill and feed.
A dhampir can go for one week plus a number of days equal to his Constitution score without tasting fresh blood. After this time, the character must make a Constitution check each day (DC 10 +1 for each previous check) or become fatigued. A fatigued dhampir must continue to make additional daily Constitutions checks until he drinks at least one pint of fresh blood. If he fails a subsequent check, he becomes exhausted until he drinks at least two pints of fresh blood.
Some dhampir — those with the fangs alternate racial trait, the oracle’s vampiric blood drain revelation or the Thirst for Blood heritage feat — feel the thirst for blood more keenly than their fellows. Such individuals suffer a ‐1 penalty to their Constitutions check for each of the aforementioned conditions they possess.

Based on the rules above, if my character were to feed on someone for the purposes of sustaining himself to continue his fight against the monsters of the world, would that be an evil act? and if he were to fail his check enough, I was imagining a kind of blood rage, similar to what Seras (Police Girl) from the anime Hellsing underwent. How would something like this work, and what abilities would this bloodrage replace to balance it?

I have a player with a tiefling bard who want's to multiclass to a gunslinger to give his character almost a western feel. I wouldn't have a problem with this, but for the free battered gun at first level. I don't want to tell him he can't do it, but I am unsure how to let him do it beyong just dropping a gun into his lap via loot from foes or have him buy one via black market or something. Ideas? Thanks.

I recently made an aasimar paladinfor my friend's Serpent's Skull game, and was curious as to which, if any multiclass or prestige class options would be good. Classic sword and board right now, and his deity is Iomedae. I was thinking maybe sprinkling bard in there, using the hymns of the Inheritor to inspire my comerades, and maybe the Inheritor's Crusader Prc. Thoughts? Also, mount or bonded sword?

I am about to play a game run by one of my friends, and I'm considering a tiefling paladin. I have read the other threads regarding tiefling paladins, and I had decided that due to social stigma, the church of Iomedae would not welcome my character. I was wondering, therefore, would it be possible to form a deific connection to attain paladinhood through means outside of the church?

I'm running a game where my players are going through a region styled after Ancient Egypt. I've adapted the Pharaonic pantheon to suit my needs and included the god Anubis. I want to create a gnoll variant in the service of Anubis instead of Yeenoghu, or as in the case of this region, Set. The followers of Anubis will be easy to differentiate from those who follow Set, because Anubis-gnolls will be jackal-headed. My problem stems from the fact that I don't know what kind of ablities or stats to give them. Could anyone give me any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have an infernal bloodline sorcerer, and was curious if I should stay with full Sorcerer for it, or go with the eldritch knight prestige class. I will only be playing this character to level 17, due to the campaign.

I know that it's kinda early to be starting this, especially seeing as Kingmaker book one isn't even out yet, but this way, we all know where it is and we dont clog up the CoT thread with Kingmaker posts.
