I've recently joined an iron Gods game, and my DM is kind of falling in love with the idea of a ratfolk gunslinger-type, and i'm happy to oblige - i like the idea myself!
The only thing is, i'm not really fond of the "stand back and fire" approach of most ranged characters. So, here's what's in my head right now...
Start with a base of the Gulch Gunner gunslinger archetype, for the gaining of grit through attacks of opportunity.Possibly mix in Gun Tank for better up-front survivability, and Mysterious Stranger for 1st-level bonus damage (I know it's a generally bad archetype, I have reasons)
since i'm provoking attacks of opportunity intentionally, swashbuckler is the next on the list, for either Opportune Parry / Riposte, or the mouser's Underfoot Assault (a Ratfolk Mouser/ How can you go wrong?) The DM might let me finagle the Musketeer archetype to use pistols, but i haven't heard back, so am assuming not. Picaroon loses opportune parry / riposte, and undercuts AoO, so isn't desirable.
And then? Either the Dune drifter Cavalier or savage technologist Barbarian. Both seem super-thematic for Iron Gods. The cavalier brings a lot of utility to the table (a riding rat buddy, Order abilities, being able to use my hat as a banner, and amateur Gunslinger gives back one of my traded-out Deeds), while the barbarian brings a lump of power (strength and Dex boost, free sword-and-pistol dual weilding, dex-to-damage at level 5)
Now the trouble is, i don't know the best way to bring all of this together. Does anyone out there have some ideas on how to turn this melange into a character?
