After playing online PFS for the first time over this weekend, and having an amazing time, I would love to continue the trend and explore Play by Post. I've done some play by posting before, but never here. I am a complete newcomer to this so I could probably use a bit of initial assistance. Or, I'll spend some time tomorrow and figure it out. But put me down wherever I need to be noted so that I might try some of this out!

I have a couple of questions:

1) I have a player planning on being a Fearmonger Antipaladin. Has anyone had issues with Intimidate run amok?

2) One of my players would like to take the Damnation feat chain. My assumption is this would preclude him from completely giving himself to House Thrune and missing out on those benefits. Also, has anyone out there allowed a player to start at level 1 with a Patron already in place?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Can anybody tell me if there is currently available, or even soon to be available licensed Pathfinder content for virtual table tops?

I LOVE that I can buy adventure path content within hero lab. I love to GM, but I have a full time job, and a full time family, and even a dog who likes to go on walks every.single.day. The fact that I can just buy stuff ready to run makes an old guy like me happy. Why do you think I buy adventure paths in the first place?

Now, as life has gone on, my 25 year gaming companions and I have all moved to different cities. We love the idea of playing online with each other, but the work involved in getting everything ready is simply too much for our very busy real life schedules. We've tried Roll20, and d20 pro, and fantasy grounds and they are all awesome but on none of them can I simply buy an adventure path and have everything nice and easy.

WHY NOT?

Seriously, one of the benefits of being gainfully employed...other than having a decent pension plan...is that I have money to spend on things. I would happily spend my money on prepackaged content for Pathfinder. I don't want to play 5e...I don't even like 5e...but the fact that I can just buy all that stuff on Fantasy Grounds is tempting.

Paizo! Get with it! Seriously...license your stuff already so I can just give you money and play.

However...if this stuff already exists somewhere and I haven't found it, please enlighten me.

PS...I just thought of this as I typed this out. If any of you out there have actually done all the work to convert an adventure path to a VTT send me a PM or respond to this message. I will happily send you some of my hard earned money if I can just have your work pre packaged.

So we have an FAQ that says you count as your own ally unless it would be physically impossible or wouldn't make sense for it do so.

In the case of Team Work feats, it certainly isn't the intention to give something to yourself. So if you question was can your trigger the ability and make the attack for attacking (instead of having a friend attack) I would think that's against the spirit of the rules.

Wow, I didn't even think of this. That's actually pretty funny, fire the one barrel and then get a free shot with the other due to some serious rules lawyering without paying the -4 penalty. Smart!

But yeah, the other guys got the question right...I'm just wondering if I can fire both barrels as part of the immediate action granted to me by my partner.

I have a question for all of you rules gurus out there...

The Target of Opportunity Team Work feat states that when an ally shoots at somebody, if your weapon is ready you can make an immediate action to make a "single ranged attack" against that opponent.

The double barreled pistol allows you to fire both barrels "as a single action".

Does this mean, under the auspices of the feat, as an immediate action I can fire both barrels?

Here's a fun one I've started playing.

Daring Champion Cavalier.

At first level take Volley Fire as your Tactician feat. You are now handing out up to +4 to hit to all your allies. Oh, and you don't provide cover to each other.

Take Point Blank and Precise Shot at level one to toss those daggers into combat.

Quick draw at third, and then Deadly Aim at fifth.

At sixth level, retrain your tactician feat to Target of Opportunity. Now, everyone in the party is throwing out shots if they're ready, it's crazy.

I love showing up to PFS and handing out the teamwork feat. Everyone gets excited.

So, to go back to the original question, this would actually work?

If I only juggle two pistols, I can keep one hand free. Assuming that one hand free is also the one hand free I need to reload a gun I can reload and juggle at the same time.

If I have rapid reload and alchemical cartridges I can reload as a free action.

Therefore, I can juggle two pistols, and using my free hand I can reload them both as two free actions.

If I then have Two Weapon Fighting, I can fire both guns as part of one full round attack?

By doing this I can now fire 2 guns every round?

Stick with the Juggler just for the coolness of it. But more than that, off the top of my head I can think of a whole bunch of advantages to having 3 or more items in hand while keeping one hand free for spell casting, deflect/snatch arrows, etc.

- Juggle three different wands
- Juggle a wand, a rapier, and an alchemist's fire
- At 5th, juggle a wand, another wand, and your rapier, while grabbing the bomb that alchemist just lobbed your way and toss it back
- At 8th you get your second attack...and now you're juggling 4 items and snatching and throwing back whatever comes your way...juggle a wand, and three magical rapiers with varying enhancements...hit him with one, and then the other as part of your full attack.
- Or as Belabras suggested, take Amateur Gunslinger or the 1 level dip and juggle loaded pistols

Juggler is where it's at, if only for the sheer craziness.

Thanks for the quick response sir.

My wife is very excited about playing a Juggler Bard and is about to hit 2nd level.

We were hoping to find out soon as to whether this was going to be legal and it sounds like we'll find out before it becomes a problem.

So the Additional Resources seem to have been updated on the 8th, but still no Ranged Tactics Toolbox...

Any ideas as to what's up?

Only prereq is Point blank shot.

It has an additional benefit. Any ally under the effect of this teamwork feat does not provide soft cover to the target(s). It's why my Cavalier of the Land has this as his tactician feat.

Breiti wrote:
What is the source of this feat ?

The Pathfinder Player Companion: Ranged Tactics Toolbox.

Well, looking at Toxophile I'm not sure I see the appeal. Hooded Champion adds in the fun of Panache while the Toxophile can shoot arrows out of the air.

The question I have is this:

The teamwork feat Volley Fire in the Ranged Tactics Toolbox states

Volley Fire:
You gain a +1 bonus on ranged attack rolls for each ally with this feat who made a ranged attack since the end of your last turn against a target within 15 feet of your target

Can this target be the same target? Can a target be within 15 feet of itself?

JJ Jordan wrote:
All of you should pick up the target of opportunity feat. Stuff will get nasty. The PFS will have to shut down the scenario after you devastate it.

Essentially that's what we're doing by retraining the Cavalier's Tactician ability. One of the prereqs is +6 BAB. The poor Bard won't be there at six so it's up to the Cavalier to give the feat to everyone else.

So here's where we're at so far, tell me what you think, especially if you guys can come up with more ways to make this group shine.

The "Theme" of the group of Pathfinders is they're a travelling road show of juggling, shooting and throwing expertise. A juggler, a guy who shoots apples off people's heads, and a knife thrower. All the while they represent the ideals of Liberty's Edge and try and bring comfort to the downtrodden.

I'll just cover the feats to see what you folks think.

First up...The Knife Thrower.

Human Daring Champion Cavalier of the Land
Level 1 Tactician: Volley Fire
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Level 3 Quick Draw
Level 5 Deadly Aim
Level 6 Retrain Tactician to Target of Opportunity
Cavalier Bonus Feat: Volley Fire

Next...The Juggler

Human Juggler Bard
Level 1 Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Level 3 Concentrated Splash
Level 5 Volley Fire

Finally...The Trick Shooter

Human Hooded Champion Ranger
Level 1 Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Level 2 Archery Combat Style: Rapid Shot
Level 3 Deadly Aim
Level 5 Volley Fire

Hey, am I just missing it, or is the Ranged Tactics Toolbox not yet PFS legal?

If it hasn't been added yet, anyone have an idea when it will be added to the Additional Resources page?

These are exactly the types of ideas I was hoping to see.

What would a fire eating alchemist look like?

The flying blade swashbuckler, does anyone have any experience with this guy? Is it fun to play?

Are there some great teamwork feats that all three could have that would really make them a cohesive unit?

Keep the ideas coming, this is starting to take shape in my mind.

So every year about this time my wife, my buddy and I try to come up with a cool group PFS concept we can start up and have ready for GenCon in the summer. Last year it was three Ulfen guard and we had a ton of fun. This year I thought I'd tap into the group mind that is the Paizo forums and see if there might be a cool suggestion or two. So, here are the parameters...

My wife wants to be a Juggler. At first, this was going to be a vanilla bard who simply had Perform: Juggle for flavor and maybe threw a dagger or two. However, now the ranged tactics toolbox somehow reads her mind and she's super excited to play the Juggler Bard.

I'm thinking then we make some sort of performance troupe of some kind centered around her juggling and the tossing of things around. Here's where I'm hoping for some suggestions. I'm hoping to come up with three complimentary short ranged combatants who work as a team.

Suggestions?

Awesome...thanks for all the quick replies.

I was having one of those paranoid moments.

We always play together at the same table so all is good.

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, or even if it's answered in the PFS Guide, but I'm at work and don't have immediate access.

I was reading through the thread on bringing your books to the table and something occured to me. My wife and I both play together. I always have a pdf of all of our books in a tablet but I've always just bought one copy for the both of us.

Am I technically breaking the rules in that we both don't have discrete copies? Or is there an allowance for this as it's highly unlikely I'll buy duplicate sets of all the books.

Hey yall, long time rp'er looking for a new group to play with. Id like to play pathfinder but will consider most things, gimme a shout!

Hey! We just moved to Nanaimo and would love to find some people to play Pathfinder. Are you ztill looking these three years later? Did you find anyone?

Hello!

My wife and I just moved to Nanaimo and we're looking for a Pathfinder group to join or like minded people who want to start a group.

We're both experienced gamers who have been playing Pathfinder since its inception. We go to GenCon every year and love PFS as well.

If you're in the Nanaimo area and would like to join forces with a couple of Pathfinder vets let me know!

1. You apply GM credit to the appropriate tier for your character. As if they had played in their own group within tier (but without the opportunity for a day job).

2. Follow this, once you hit a "yes", you can buy it (provided you have the funds):

Is it always available (mundane items, +1 weapons or armor)?
Is it on one of your chronicle sheets?
Is its total value within the limits of your Fame (Fame = total earned Prestige)?

You can't buy scrolls, potions, or wands with increased caster level or metamagic applied.

Okay, so let's assume the character has 22 Fame and thus can purchase up to 8,000 GP. He wants to buy a Belt of Giant Strength +2 for 4000 gp.

Is it always available? - No
Is it on a chronicle sheet? - No
Is it's total value within the limits of Fame? - Yes

Therefore he could buy it?

Hey, I'm confused by a couple of things, and I figure this is the place to get a quick answer:

1. If I GM a scenario for a group of 4-5s, thus making it Tier II, yet I use the GM credit on a level 1 char, do I use the Tier II chronicle sheet or do I downgrade myself to Tier I?

2. I'm confused by item purchasing. I understand completely the prestige limits etc, but I am somewhat confused by what a player can buy. Can a player, for example, purchase a level 1 spell wand, but pay extra to increase the caster level? Provided the cost is below the prestige limit, can a player pretty much buy whatever he wants? For example, it isn't on any chronicle sheet but he wants a Belt of Giant Strength...can he buy it?

Thanks in advance for making this clear.

With the new Animal Archive, I've grown interested in all of the possibilities of having a furry friend. I've just got a basic rules question in terms of how I control them as a player/character.

Up until now, as far as I can tell, our group has been playing it wrong by simply allowing the controlling character to operate the summon/familiar/companion as if it was another PC. Attacking, flanking, etc. As I dig into tricks I realize that more is involved.

So, the way I now understand animal companions work is every time you ask them to do something you make a Handle Animal check. If it falls within the tricks it nows it's a DC 10, and if it is something else it's DC 25. I can train more tricks, but at the very least every time I make that Handle Animal check.

My big question, is how this applies to familiars, eidolons, or any other type of summon. Do I have full control over them, as if it were another PC under my control, or do I have to make some sort of handle check in order to get them to act as well?

Hey, very quick question.

I seem to be missing two sessions from GenCon. What would be the best thing to do to fix this?

Thanks for the info.

Actually, just to clarify as my post might be a little short. I participated in 3 PFS events at GenCon. When I click on my pathfinder society, and then the characters sessions, only 1 is there. Who do I email or talk to in order to fix it.

That was my question.

Thanks everyone.

Time to go tablet shopping.

So, I'm sitting here browsing the forums when a silly question pops in my head.

Other than the Core rulebook, everything I own is on PDF in my laptop. We play PFS in a home group, and it's pretty much accepted that we've all got an open laptop with Hero Lab and all your books on screen.

Now we're planning a trip to gencon and it occured to me all of a sudden that this might be bad form.

What's the general etiquette for an event this big...is it considered a bad idea to open up the computer at the table?

Hello all,

I just wanted to give a really big thanks to you folks at Paizo for allowing me to propose to my girlfriend at your GenCon event. It went perfectly, she had absolutely no idea, and yes, she did say yes. Her only complaint was that she wanted to play more Pathfinder.

Again, thank you so much to Ryan for everything you did to make this happen, to Liz for finding us a place to play, and to Rob for being such a perfect GM. You guys made the event perfect.

Thank you.

I'd love to find a way to help. :) I think getting a Venture Captain involved is a sure-fire way for it to happen though.

What is a Venture Captain, and how do I get in touch with one?

Hey, that sounds great!

Tell you what, maybe I can help? My friday event is full, but I was thinking of doing some kind of impromptu game on Saturday evening.

Do you have nay specific ideas about how you want to work out your proposal?

Hey Wolfsnap, something like that was exactly what I was hoping for. My girlfriend and I, and 3 of my friends, are coming down to gencon from Canada, and I figured this would be a really cool place to propose. The basic idea in my head was midway through some sort of adventure there is a piece of treasure, or a kid comes running up, or something like that which gave the GM an opportunity to hand a box to me through my character...the GM would hand me the box and then I'd go from there.

Pretty simple thing in my mind, I just want to be able to do it someplace special like gencon...yeah I know, cheesy...with all of my friends present.

What do you think?

Hey! I actually do...

I'm trying to put together a creative way to propose to my girlfriend at gencon. My initial hope was to do it at one of the pathfinder society events, but any society characters we have are all sub level 5 and all of those events are closed. Pathfinder, as corny as it might sound, is actually one of the cool threads that made us a couple, and I thought it'd be a great way to publicly propose.

Are there any other events anyone knows about that I could work this into? Right now I'm considering the living dungeon event, but Pathfinder would really be what I was hoping for.

Anybody out there who might be able to help me out?
