I've had an idea for a campaign that I'd like to do once we finish up our current AP. I want to run a series of linked campaigns which progress through the various ages of the world. The PCs would play different characters in each age and their actions would help to shape how the world develops for the next age.

I'm thinking something along the line of
Stone Age -> Bronze Age -> Medieval -> Steampunk -> Modern
(maybe even progressing on to cyberpunk or science fiction).

Along the way the nature of the world, what sort of challenges would be faced, what science/technology/magic has been developed would all change. I'd also like to change which races and classes are available in each age, to show society progressing.

Has anyone done anything like this before or have any suggestions about what sort of classes and monsters would be appropriate for different ages?

So, I just finished up the first session of Haunting of Harrowstone and it's all going pretty well. I thought I'd keep notes on what's happened and share it for other people's reference. I had six players and decided to start them at level 2.

Cast of Characters

Maalvi - Male Elvish Necromancer 2
A student of Professor Lorrimar at Leipstadt university.

Elizabeth - Female Elvish Alchemist 2
Another student of Professor Lorrimar at Leipstadt university.

Rusty - Male Dwarf Rogue 2
A thief in Caliphas who stole a cursed Ossirion artifact from a shipment to Leipstadt university. Met Professor Lorrimar when he rode down to Caliphas to track down the artifact and helped break the curse before a ghost killed his entire thieving crew.

Sorisha - Female Aasimar Cleric of Abadar 2
A cleric of noble birth from Leipstadt whose family bore angelic blood. Performed community service as a town guard during their trials as a novice and was assigned to the university where she befriended the professor.

Gage - Male Human Druid 2
A young man who lived in the wilds with his grandfather. His grandfather was good friends with Professor Lorrimar but died six months before the professor. Gage received his grandfather's invitation to the funeral and went in his stead.

Frederic - Male Olead Fighter 2
A bodyguard for hire who accompanied Professor Lorrimar on an expedition helping to keep him safe.

Our group has been playing D&D for a very long time and we've had a tradition of writing our own adventures. I've only ever run two prewritten adventures before. However I've seen some of these new APs and they look great so I'd like to try something new and give running an AP a shot.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good one to use.

I was originally thinking Kingmaker, since it seems like a fairly sandbox and open-ended game with plenty of opportunity to introduce your own content. However one of my players has told me that they really don't like playing politics and running communities/kingdoms in RPGs so it might not be a good match.

Also do they need to be set in Golarion or could they be converted to a homebrew world? If they can be converted, how difficult would it be?

Not including myself, we have three regular players with a lot of experience and two other newer players who may not be able to make it to every session.
