Started preparing to run this scenario... Noticed a few minor things that might warrant corrections later. I think the Appendix 1 entry for "Event 3: Pit Trap (Levels 1-2)" has a misplaced "(0)" at the end of the "Halfling Street Watcher" entry. The text for this event earlier in the scenario listed this entry without the "(0)" and the scaling text assumes that "Halfling Street Watcher" is always present in the event... so (unless otherwise corrected) I'd probably just run this event unscaled with the Hazard, 1 "Halfling Street Watcher" and 1 "Halfling Troublemaker". Perhaps this extra "(0)" migrated from the last page of Appendix 2? There's a "Halfling Troublemaker" entry without a "(0)" in "Event 5: Boss Fight (Level 3-4)" that doesn't appear in the list earlier in the scenario. On Handout #1 "Sakura's Sprig" is misspelled as "Sakura's Spri*n*g" in the Item header area. Also, there's some extra artwork in Appendix 3 of a "Pitborn Adept" although one doesn't appear in this scenario. Instead of removing the artwork, one should be added to the scenario. :)

Just noticed a small printing error in my physical copy of the book: on the map on the inside back cover there's a grey box with green borders covering some of room F4. This isn't present in my PDF copy so it may have been caught and fixed already.

Gah - not sure why I'm so worked up about a jokey character I created... I just seems weird that where most rules give so many options this one is so restricted... I guess the ruling still does leave it open that a boon may open this up in the future. I guess I could also just wait to if/when this boon becomes available and try and get it to play this character unmodified again... So much new stuff has been added anyway, could just create some new characters wait on this one... Is there any built in way in PFS to "push for" or add suggestions for the mechanics of this possible future boon?

OK, yes - it was stated in the forums and only recently added to the FAQ. I guess I can just change my mount to "Wolf" and be PFS legal going forward... it's just frustrating that the Core Rulebook seems to give options for other mounts, and currently contains feat "workarounds" to get these other animal companions to work; but that it's just a flat "No you gotta choose horse" rule for PFS.

The last snapshot on Wayback Maching back on August 19, 2021 (https://web.archive.org/web/20210815153230/https://paizo.com/pathfindersoc iety/faq) doesn't have it yet, so it's definitely been added more recently than the APG. The 'mount' companion animal ability is just special ability that lets the animal (when being ridden) use something other than land speed (if it has other movement) and use its support action in addition to being ridden. Any animal companion is rideable as long as it's one size larger than the rider. Both the Champion's Steed Ally -("Ordinarily, your animal companion is one that has the mount special ability, such as a horse. You can select a different animal companion (GM's discretion), but this ability doesn't grant it the mount special ability.") and Cavalier Dedication -("You can choose from animal companions with the mount special ability, as well as any additional options from your pledge, as determined by your GM. You must choose an animal companion that's at least one size larger than you, but if the animal usually starts as Small, you can begin with a Medium version of that animal (changing no statistics other than its size).") The problem is that "GM's discretion" for PFS has now been redefined to be "No discretion, must be a creature with mount, unless it's a Wolf and you have Rough Rider." The only companions with mount are: Beetle (Grand Bazaar - not sanctioned yet); Camel (PFS limited; Age of Ashes); Horse (common); Legchair (Grand Bazaar); Monitor Lizard (Uncommon; PFS Limited; Extinction Curse); Riding Drake (Uncommon); Terror Bird (Grand Bazaar) - so until Grand Bazaar is sanctioned *only* Horse is a readily available "choice", after it's sanctioned apparently it'll be PFS legal for any champion to choose a Beetle, Legchair or Terror Bird - or maybe these will require some sort of boon to access... Even if you have Halfling Prarie Rider feat, you can't choose a riding dog, only a horse. So my Goblin Champion of Sun Wukong can't "legally" choose an Ape animal companion because of this ruling. I guess I could retrain as another class, but this character is currently third level... so I guess I can only do that by applying GM credit and using all the downtime to retrain, because this character would no longer be PFS legal to play until retrained? Probably easier to just trash it and start from scratch with another character... And yes, "Corgi Mount" is a familiar - so I guess a Sprite Champion/Cavalier can have both a rideable familiar dog and a rideable horse. Or they could have adopted Goblin ancestry to get Rough Rider to get a rideable familar Corgi and a rideable Wolf animal companion that they flavor as a Corgi (Since Wolf states - "Your companion is a wolf or other canine creature, such as a dog.") So then they get two rideable Corgis that function slightly differently in the game... Obviously choosing an animal companion with "mount" is the "better/more efficient" choice - but this ruling is way more restrictive than it needs to be.

On the Paizo Organized Play Pathfinder Society FAQ page (https://paizo.com/pathfindersociety/faq) a "New" entry has shown up that reads - Quote:
So does the Goblin ancestry feat "Rough Rider" and the Sprite "Corgi Mount" fall into a case that overrides the "default" here? Also, I have a current PFS Goblin Champion / Cavalier of Sun Wukong that selected an Ape as an animal companion / mount previous to this ruling and just used the "Ride" general feat (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=835) "Riding an Animal Companion" rules (https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=150) and "Mounted Combat" rules (https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=463). Is this character no longer PFS legal?

Could someone please check order 36705361? It's a Pathfinder Society Scenario subscription order still marked as "Pending"... the order posted on Wednesday (10/27) and the scenario was delayed until today (Friday - 10/29), so that might have put it in a weird state... Thanks!

I completely agree with all of the above (especially after re-reading "High Jump" and "Long Jump" entries). I'd still argue that tying the "(+11 Leap)" to Acrobatics makes this confusing...Wouldn't something like:

While preparing to run a PFS Bounty that features this monster I thought I found a misprint in the adventure - but it looks like the same thing shows up in my Bestiary 2 and on the AoN entry for this creature - (https://2e.aonprd.com/Monsters.aspx?ID=584). Under the Chupacabra's skills it lists "Acrobatics +9 (+11 to Leap)". This may be due to copying the monster stats from 1e where it had "Acrobatics +7 (+11 jumping)" since jumping was governed by Acrobatics in 1e. So how should this be handled by the 2e Chupacabra? Should "Acrobatics" be changed to "Athletics" and "Leap" to "Long/High Jump"? Should it keep "Acrobatics" with no extra "Leap" modifier specified? |
