I like what you did with this Barbazul. I think I would also like to use Bluehood in my CoT campaign as another character in disguise, but I'm not sure which one yet.

Great! Please share which one when you decide. There are several good choices.

I decided to go with the vampire hunter because I really loved the way the vampire spawns were presented and really regreted that they had never been mentioned before in the AP

GM Idyll, I love the concept and most of the implementation, but I think your DCs are a good deal too high. With the exception of the Profession/Craft check I'd drop the others by 3 to 5 each, the 15s down to 12s and the 20 down to a 15. The tasks involved don't seem nearly complex enough to justify anything higher.

I am currently running the AP using this system and I decided to make exactly the same adjustments as you for Gather Information, Mentor and Interact.

I also added an extra possible action which is Craft. It represents the PCs spending their free time crafting equipment. I give them half a roll (rounded down) if taken once and full roll if taken twice. In this AP it makes a lot more of sense that the PCs will be crafting their own equipment than in the traditional modules because of the availability of materials and them not being on the road all the time.

Haven't read through it yet, but congratulations on all the hard work you put into it.

I will definitely get into reading it as I assume it will prove easier for me to translate from english than german (I will translate the whole script to spanish and hand each player a copy)

I am still unsure as far as the number of players go because I lost a player before even starting the AP, and now I lost another one who got a job during the weekends, so now instead of having the problem of too many players I have too few. But I am looking into the possibility of bringing in new players just for the play.

The more, the merrier :D

I started the AP a few sessions ago and my party is about to go after the bastards.

I made several small changes to try to foreplay the most I could.

* I had them be present at a public execution carried out by Signifer Verennie and had the people present make casual comments about her ruthlessnes. I am planning on putting her somewhat in contrast to the paralictor in future sessions so it make more sense that they help him (or her) in book 6
* I changed bluehood to be Vanhwynne Malkistra, the elf vampire hunter from book 3. They only know she is a foreign vampire hunter, present at the city in seek for revenge and that she placed the reward because she has some unexplained interest in the shadows. I used this encounter to foreshadow the presence of vampires in the city and possibly (if they got it) that there is a connection between the vampires and the shadows. Also, having them know the living Vanhwynne will make meeting the undead one much more interesting
* My bard was the only one present when Thesing made his appearence and after that encounter they became almost mortal enemies (if insults could kill a person, that is). So he entered the show bussiness world to confront him. He is now about to be participate at a party the Ciucci family is throwing for their current guests. He will replace the sick mandolin player of a band of minstrels that has Caseinica as the lead voice. Robahl is going to "discover" her talent at the event and decide to hire her. Aulamaxa will also be present and their enmity will start that day. This lets me introduce several characters from the second book, as well as the Ciucci family and explain their trade hosting noble people in their house.
* I had one of the bastards hits to be the family of the excentric Rolan, the tinkerer. One of my PCs is a dottari who went to ask him questions about the attack, and he found that Robal was psychologically damaged by the experience (he found his daughter and wife slaughtered in his house) and got a rather strong fixation in his "masterpieces" that got stolen. I am planing on having Robal be one of the main vendors for exotic tools and pieces of craftmanship.
* I haven't introduced him yet, but I plan on making Sandor the strange the main vendor of magical things and divinations, and possibly Rance Lucca as well
* Chammady also made a minor appearence when the Dottari member of the crew interviewed the noble families about trading caravans being attacked. I played her as young and naive and very worried about his father bussiness being hit hard by the burglars, and started asking a lot (A LOT) of questions about the different threats in the city, specially those mysterious masked vigilantes and the player totally fell for it and spit way to much information about the lack of dottari capacity to handle the different issues arising. Obviously Chammady couldn't know that he was also a vigilante, but she now knows that the seeds of chaos she and her brother are planting are blossoming

Chastised Wolf, do you still need them?

I got them form Scharlata when I was about to start the AP in December. That got delayed because of summer vacations and I am about to start working in the translation from german to spanish this week.

Drop me a line to my email if you still need them

I know this thread is really old but I am currently running the AP and wanted to share what I did with bluehood.

I turned her into Vahnwynne Malkistra, the elf vampire hunter from book 3. That allowed me to fill in a little foreshadowing of the vampire theme that pops up later in the AP. I didn't reveal much to the PCs though, other than her mere presence in the city and the fact that she came from a distant land searching for revenge. (They knew she was a vampire hunter because she was armed with stakes)

The PCs tried to recruit her, she refused but showed a hint of interest.

When they meet her later in book 3 she will still confront them, but I expect there will be a little more of hesitation (and roleplaying) on both sides which will make for a much more flavorful encounter

I was also thinking about using the Nine-Section Whip. Then I read a lot (A LOT) of threads in this forum about the ruling of the Perfect Strike feat (it has a very specific list of weapons it applies to) and got a little scared I might break the game.

In the end I ruled that the feat could only be used with monk weapons that have a critical threat range of 20 (ruling out the 9-s whip) and decided to give Mathalen a home-made weapon consisting of a stick with a curved blade in the end (basically, a kama with a very forced explanation to fit a western setting).

Mathalen - Mathalen's focus on the whip changes her from a normal Monk to a Weapon Adept.

I don't understand why Mathalen uses a whip. Last time I checked, it wasn't a monk weapon. This is particularly important if she becomes a Weapon Adept as she cannot benefit from Perfect Strike.

Or maybe I am missing something

This is awesome! I will definitely be using this as a base for my own dusk market.

I noticed nobody mentioned Jarvis Albrecht, the informant from Mother of Flies, who is described as an active member of the underground or his contact, Goren One-ear, who is specifically described as a store owner in the dusk market (though, they never say what is his trade)

Hi! I am about to get started with Bastards... my group is very likely to end up being 5 players with a possible unconfirmed 6th. I am in the process of translating the provided play to Spanish (will share when that's done) but I would really appreciate the extra lines as I have no talent at all as a writer
