About Zhu Katai

Appearance: Zhu is a handsome young Tian male, with tousled black hair and very tan skin. By this continent's standards, he isn't particularly tall. He wears a traditional black kimono, with a lilac trim, yet he has replaced the traditional, baggy hakama and sandals for black trousers and ankle boots -- more functional in the varied climates of Golarion.

Background:
Zhu's clan, like most residents of the Wanshou region, had been enslaved by the kraken. Many slaves succumbed to madness, but Zhu survived. As he entered adolescence, he began to dream of another creature, a monstrous orc-like being that Zhu knew was an oni. Sometimes the dreams were nightmares, sometimes they were exhilarating visions of power, and sometimes they were both.

After he shared these visions with his uncle, who was (as far as Zhu knew) the last surviving member of his family, Zhu learned that his family had been "touched" -- or violated -- decades ago by an oni sorcerer named Katakikira. Ever since that time, various members of the family --- blood descendants of the oni -- manifested sorcerous powers, which drove many of them to commit horrendous acts of their own. It was this dishonor that forced the clan to leave their ancestral home and fortunes and become wanderers. Zhu's uncle concluded that perhaps a slow death as the kraken's slaves was the clan's punishment.

Zhu wouldn't accept that. Viewing his dreams as evidence that the oni's power was now manifesting within him, he secretly began to focus on developing and honing that power. Eventually, he succeeded! He escaped his enslavers, thanks largely to the meager sorcerous powers he now controlled. He felt a dark, vicious joy run through him as he slew the guards who blocked his path.

Now, unable to free his land, he adventures across the world to seek out and destroy aberrations and those who would enslave others, no matter where they appear. And if he can find the oni who tainted his family's bloodline, all the better. But Zhu isn't sure whether he'll attack the oni -- or thank him.
