Silver Crusade

Cloak of displacement will let you hide in the open. It'll be fairly effective unless your enemy can see through illusions.

I would rather spend skill points on a character that doesn't have that many great skill choices than spend gold or prestige on the same character who will be strapped HARD for money. Spellcraft is free.

Why are you maxing out Spellcraft on a Summoner?

To identify items... We're always short on spellcasters with it around here it feels like. Also not sure what else I would take.

Hey, if four or five prestige can get you back that feat or trait or whatever you were going to spend, it's worth it.

Yeah, this totally solves my issue. Thanks very much, now I don't need to worry about it at all.

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

Huh, guess I never really took notice of that. Not something I would normally spend prestige on but if I need to i guess it's there.

EDIT - This was to the +4 bonus response. I can't believe that I missed that on this year's faction cards.

You can get a season 8 card to fill out as well.

Just drop a point in Profession early and attempt the rolls every scenario. You can always drop a prestige point to succeed without a roll if you need to.

How does the prestige point thing work, I've not heard about that.

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

Yeah, I have enough GM credit that I don't start characters before level 3 generally (this guy will be 3). I do keep impeccable logs however. I like having access to any year's faction card I want.

We're in season 8 currently. You'll need to use that faction card.

I have DM credit from the appropriate season on the 7 card, I can continue to use it.

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

Well, with a Wisdom of 10 my character isn't gonna be great at Profession skills and I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone. And the faction card I have access to is season 7. Using the Eidolon is a good idea but can they speak? I can't find it in the class info.

As for my skills I'm taking Linguistics, Spellcraft and preferably Bluff.

Jurassic Pratt wrote:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the only way to completely replace one skill with another is using specific class options such as the bard's versatile performance or the Asmodean Advocate's Devil in the Details ability.

Why not just take some traits to get both bluff and diplomacy as class skills and advance them both?

I've got a bunch of diplomacy characters and don't have a lot of skill points. I'm bored with diplomacy and want to lie a bunch with this character.

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

Unchained Summoner Aasimar. I want him to be Exchange but way more gets done on their faction card with diplomacy.

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

Hey people, as the title says I'm looking for a PFS legal way to use bluff in place of diplomacy. The only restriction is I need to get the ability without it being a class ability as my character cannot afford even a single level dip.

Thanks in advance!

Just a reminder, Nexus Game Fair is a short 3 weeks away. Event reg is now open. Come down and see us!

Silver Crusade

I have a level 9 Unchained Monk that every time he attacks (5 attacks a round fully buffed) hits for 1d10+2d6+1d6(acid)+22. He can also sneak attack and can add cold damage to his weapon while raging if he gets cut. It's pretty decent imo. I did 240 dmg in a round the other day in a game.

Oh, and my ultimate "rare PFS sighting" story: I played ONE GAME with a guy from out-of-state who possessed a ONE-OF-A-KIND Boon that allowed him to play a non-Evil, non-Good Pathfinder Society Assassin. As I recall, he said Mike Brock told him that they planned never to release another one. Unfortunately, he wasn't playing that character in the game we were in (or maybe he just wasn't high-level enough yet to start taking Assassin levels).
I play with him at cons quite frequently since he comes to our cons here in Milwaukee. He also has a Red Mantis Assassin that's PFS legal.

That Guy travels around! ;-)

He witnessed my 5th star qualification game in the Hague a few years ago.

Yeah he's a good dude. Pretty funny and fun to play with. His stories about PFS and real life in general are amazing. He just witnessed a VL friend of mines 5th star qualification table.

Also, Cavaliers are tricky in PFS, considering how often there are narrow hallways or inaccessible areas. A newer player played several scenarios with the Alain pregen and eventually made a Halfling Cavalier. Not sure if it's because half the time he had to park his horse outside or it it's flavour, but I had to tell him lots of times, "sorry dude, your horse just doesn't fit here."

This is why I have a completely un-mounted, groundpounder Cavalier. I took standard bearer so it put off the mount feature till 5 and to be completely honest I'm not 100% cavalier, I'm Cavalier {Standard bearer, Strategist} 6/Fighter {Weaponmaster} 6. I don't like mounts or companions of any kind really though. But yeah you're right if you want to do a mounted character, it's tough in PFS.

I once played a table of day of the demon with a 6 player all human party. It was rough.

Things I see rarely
-Cavaliers, really uncommon around here. I have one of the few.
-Rangers, almost never.

There are probably several other things but those are the two that spring to mind.

Silver Crusade

Hey guys, was just wondering are the PC's allowed to keep the shards once they've been activated? Our DM has said no but it seems odd to me that they would be detailed in powers etc and not be items to be kept.

I actually approve of a large number of things over a variety of power levels. What sort of games do you play in/run? Do you want something wacky? Do you want something that feels like Paizo? Do you want something to make Magic more fun and less tedious? Something to make martial characters have more interesting combat and out of combat roles?

I'm not gonna throw out recommendations willy nilly without knowing what you're going for. I wouldn't suggest something crazy like Gonzo to someone who's tying to make LoTR the campaign. I wouldn't suggest something like Path of War to someone who primarily plays low character level games. I wouldn't suggest something like the Genius Guide series to someone who's looking for something far away from Paizo style mechanics.

Hey, sorry I couldn't respond sooner but I had an "Insain" weekend. I mostly play in AP's right now, low to mid level stuff as most groups I'm in don't survive to high levels. Tbh though I'm really just interested in what my fellow PF players enjoy that isn't actually a Paizo product. I love all sorts of interesting settings, classes, archetypes anything that gets my creativity stirred up. So honestly, hit me with some of your favorite finds.

Thanks for all of your input so far. It seems that what people look for (at least with what's been said) is mostly crunchy stuff with a place for fluffy stuff if it's interesting.

Hey guys and gals! I was just wonder what it is you like in a 3PP product. Do you like adventures, new feats, NPC's? What draws your eyes most?

Silver Crusade 4/5 *

I DM and play in the same area as both Finlander and Brew City. The player in question has eight, check that, EIGHT different characters all with a trained tiger. I played with him last week in a 1-5 where he was level 2 playing up. We got to the final encounter and he held the tiger back until there was any small amount of resistance from the enemies and then let it loose on the BBEG. The tiger took him out in one round, flat.

Now that people see what his little pet can do they're starting to copy him with his total approval. It won't be long until there is literally no point in playing low level scenarios in our area if things continue this way.

I'm sorry but I see no reason for a character that doesn't get an animal companion as part of his class to be able to purchase any one of the several over powered animals that are effectively always available. And while some in this thread use the excuse of having to make Handling checks, you have to know these people plan that in.

Brew is right, it was cute the first time, now it's just BS. It kills the fun faster than the tiger killed that BBEG.

Congratulations! I ran my 30th table Friday, landing my 2nd star safely. At the pace I run I should be where you are in a little under a year.

Keep up the great work!

Silver Crusade Star Voter Season 8

I voted for:

Geomaw
Gloomwasp
Narrik
Stonevine Stalker

I can't say there were 4 others I would've voted for tbh.

Silver Crusade

Kalindlara,

That is a cool piece of art but I was hoping for something a little scarier. At 8th level this guy will have an Intimidate of like +25 or so.

As for the sub-order this character will be for PFS and I'll only be taking order abilities that any order has access to.

Thanks for the response!

Serious congratulations to both of these guys! I'm grateful to see PFS expanding in to more markets world wide. It's a good community and the more diverse the player base the better we all become. Welcome guys!

Silver Crusade

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone know what the Hellknights Order of the Scar armor looks like. I've tried digging around a little and I can't find anything on the subject. I've got a character that plans on joining that order and would love to know what I'm in for.

Thanks,
-Zen

You are absolutely correct, HOWEVER I don't think the bard will be smart enough with his abilities to think of it.

I think I'm going to let the group have one last shot and if they fail Nualia is going to free Mal and bail.

Silver Crusade

Some good ideas you guys are giving me, I really appreciate the help. My party is not new, hell most of us have been role-playing for 15 years at least, but my peeps are more used to 2nd ED than anything so there aren't a lot of things you can do each round.

:
That's one of the fights I'm most concerned about. If that yeth hound fears the fighter or supposedly I've got a barb coming in now, it'll go really ugly really quickly. I am also having Bruthazmus stay by Nualia at all times now since he is the Bodyguard.

Right now I'm swinging between her getting Mal out and collapsing the stairs or staying and fighting because she's come so far.

Silver Crusade

To answer your questions Latecis:

1)The players whose characters died are making new ones, that's not a problem. The group as a whole is certainly committed to finishing what they've begun.

2) The reason they died to the hounds is because 3 of the 5 player characters failed their will saves against the Baying of the hounds. The 2 who passed are the two who died. Overall the party was balanced I suppose: 1 fighter [viking] (melee) in front, decent AC @22, 1 Ranger [urban] (ranged), 1 Rogue "classically built", 1 Bard, and 1 Witch [scarred witch doctor] main healer of the group via hexes and shield other.
I'm not going to say their tactics are sound, the rogue rarely goes for the flank, the bard shoots his bow rather than sing, the ranger tends to roll poorly and when she does hit she tends to pick low priority targets. The Witch is a good player, probably the best at the table and does his best to direct people but that's a lot for one player to do. The fighter's biggest problem is that he often forgets his move action intimidate.

Now I've got a quick question for you, I've read the spell that binds Mal to his prison, I don't see any way that Nualia is capable of getting him out. How would she even begin to crack that spell?

Silver Crusade

Ok, I need some help here. My group was just repulsed from Thistletop on a second failed raid. They killed a good amount of the goblins in the first raid, finished the goblins with the second

but...

:
They were driven off by the two Yeth hounds that reside on the second level. The hounds killed 2 party members in the process. So in Thistletop, Nualia and her gang are all alive. What should I have her do? Would she wait there continuing her work? Would she leave thinking the heroes may return?

I worry, because I think my group would get wiped if I left what's all still there stay there. What should I do?

Silver Crusade

I don't think anyone else pointed this one out yet but Highlady Athroxis Pg 295 casts Keen Edge on her ranseur daily. That seems futile to me since she has improved critical [Ranseur]. As she has no other weapons I see no reason for her to even have the spell memorized.
