Thanks for the invite...but I've already played all the way through RotRL in my real life game...So good luck, and I'll keep my eyes open for any new games you might sprout...
Thanks. I am planning a 'back to basics' take on Return to the Keep on the Borderlands'. The rules will not be Pathfinder or 3rd ed, but Swords and Wizadry. (Its a version of AD&D but simplified so its ideal for a PBP. The rules are also available as a free download.)
Sounds like fun. I've been thinking about running a retro game in real life. Tired of all the tactics and conditions.... I'll keep my eyes open.
My thoughts exactly! I'll keep you posted. (It may happen sooner rather than later so watch the boards! My other game seems to be loosing players.)

That looks like fun. I am playing in a Hideouts and Hoodlums game right now so I am familiar with S&W. I expect I'll be applying for this once it opens.

As far as the RotRL. I am not sure Zeb would really fit. The detective is more urban/mystery oriented and may not fit with Rise. What do you think?

It's really up to you as the DM.
Do you want to keep this going? I am enjoying it but if you are not then it is best that it dies a clean death.

Don't mind me just looking for A J S Dad. Man that was a walk from Poltus.

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

Hello anyone here? Will "A J s Dad" please pick up the white courtsy phone.

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

As far as I know we are still on
AJ S Dad left the following message on the threead for his other game.

"OK GUYS. I AM AWAY ON VACATION NOW FOR TWO WEEKS. I WILL BE BACK ON TUESDAY 9TH AUGUST. PLASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE YOUR ROLEPLAYING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, TILL I RETURN. LOOK FORWARD TO SPEAKING WITH YOU ALL THEN."

I think we got missed in the run up to a Florida vacation. I am sure the DM we be back in nearly August.

Zebulon appears focused on the walk to Three Sisters but his mind catalogs eyerything on the way. The usual, the unusual, and the missing.

Ellens father stares at you, tears welling in his eyes. "I was there when she was conceived and I was there when my wife gave birth. Any more questions?"

"No, and sorry about that. Let's get you home and see what can be seen at the Three sisters."

Assuming agreement. Pay tab if any and head for he scene of the crime.

Knew the plots would converge pretty quiclky.

I guess I'm a little confused with all the different story arc's and things going on all at once (Much like Cody would be). Could I get a quick summary of everything that is going on right now, and maybe a time frame. Sorry I'll try to keep up better in the future

Well I am interviewing a grief-stricken father and will soon be heading to the Three sisters building to interview the Mother ands begin tracking down a missing Daughter. A dissapearance that may well be related to a number of similar kidnappings. I have yet to talk to the other party members and for that I am sorry. Zeb is a bit focused at times.

"Do you remember the exact date she disappeard, and do you remember what she was wearing and if she had any toys or trinkets on her?"
"It was Earthday, a week ago. All she had with her was a few coins - enough to buy some fish with I think."

"I am now going to ask a very impertinent question. I have made a bit of a study of kidnappings and the numbers indicate the question needs to be asked. Is there any reason, any reason at all, to consider that Ellen might not be your and your wife's daughter? If anyone else believes they have a claim on her then that might be a place to start."

A J S Dad. I am enjoying following my own path her but if it is causing problems I will try to mesh into the main group. I expect we are all on the same case and will meet eventually.

"Right, Three sisters, Foggy way. You said she has been gone a week. What day exactly did she vanish?"

Kn:local to know anything about Foggy way, the three sisters, or the business of professional mournuing? Skill is +9 for kn: local. Now that I have had some time to assess the gentelman what impression do I get from Mr.Etherin? Is his grief real, he mourns for a living afterall? Any sign of atrifice or makeup? Any sign of injury, drink, or drug addictions? Skills that may be useful: Perception +12, Sense Motive +7.

"Good then we won't have any preconceived notions getting in the way. Now I am sure you've done this a thousand time in the past week but I want you to tell me as best as you remember, when you last saw her."

"Actually, it was my wife who was the last to lay eyes on her. I had already left for work in the Necropolis - I'm a professional mourner. My wife kissed Ellan as she ran off on an errand for her to buy fish at the fish market at the docks. She never came back. I spent days roaming the docks but no one could remember seeing anyone fitting her description."

Zebulon takes careful notes. "Where do you live Mr Etherin? I will need to talk with your neighbors and with your wife. Everyone leaves traces even eight year olds. She can and she will be found.

Now tell me about your street, what does it look like when you leave for work?"

A quiet voice from behind you replies,"I dont think so my friend. Ellan was only eight years old. I wouldnt mind so much if that was the case..." The innkeeper smiles sheepishly, "Oh, evenin' Toman. Didn't see you arrive..."

Zebulon turns.

"Good evening Mister Etherin, My name is Zebulon True and I will find your daughter."

This is said without much emotion. It is a statement of fact, like a comment on the weather.

The half elf behind the bar turn to you, cloth in hand and begins to wipe the bar down. "Can't say I've seen him tonight. Not yet anyways. Take it you're asking after him 'cos of his notice? Well, I'll gladly pass a message to him when I see him again, if you like. But between you and me, I think it's a lost cause. She's gone and not connin' back if you ask me."

"So did she run off with a boy the father disapproved of? Will she show up in a few months married and with a fat and happy baby? That's how these things usually run."

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

With a slight sneer at the crowd moving towards the notice board Zebulon walks to the bar.

"Pardon me, I am looking for Toman Etherin, has he been in tonight?"

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

Moulini. A thin man you hadn't been paying attention to speaks from behind you.

"Rogard there has been punishing the rum all night. He couldn't tell you where the wall was much less what was on it. I might know something though? What are you looking for?'

Diplomacy to gather information, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15.

Knowledge Local 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

Zebulon moves unobtrusively through the crowd. Listening to a conversation here. "So I says to him..." Standing a drink there."Let me, you were saying..." Trading off-color spire jokes with a group of dwarves. "....and then he sat down on it...." Fitting in, working the room, becoming part of the background. And subtly, subtly nuging conversations to the missing folks.

"Rotten night to be out alone..."
What is known about them?

How many?
"Just not safe on the streets...."

Common traits, gender, age, race?
'...really, been there long?"

Diplomacy to gather information I am at +7. Other helpful skills Knowledge local +9 and Perception +12.Not sure if you want me to roll or not.

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

A thin figure watches the Black Swan through the gathering fog.

He is nearly invisible, dark gray cloak, dark leather tricorn hat.

He moves towards the Swan. Feet making little sound on the slick cobblestones.

"There are a million stories in this city. Time for mine to begin."

He slips easily into the smokey low ceilinged room. A quick glance takes in the notice board the bar and the staff.

"The rat said something would happen here tonight. He can usually be trusted to know..... Strange folks in tonight."

What I would also like to see is characters sepearting if they want to when there is 'free time' during an adventure, and persuing individual goals such as looking for a job, pursuing a personel quest or finding a place to live / buying a property. Let your imaginations run wild!

Well I for one will be looking for an office and clients. I wonder how much a year lease on a couple of rooms off Delvers square would run?

Thanks. What I want to try and achieve is a feeling that a character can do what they want and 'live' in the city. I will try and go with it so to speak. Even though there will be a campaign thread, I want players to feel that they can go where they like and do what they want. Enjoy yourselves!

These are very good posts. You are to be commended for taking this on.

One question, has anyone started chartering Delving companies? Get some investors willing to pony up fora share of the loot and a decent party could defray a lot of their expenses. Not to mention the franching and sponsorship deals.

:7)

As for being a sundial...its usualy to cloudy!

It all depends on the angle. Imagine a 500 foot cloud deck with nice flat white clouds. Now look at the spire fron 5000 or 10000 feet. Nice clear sundial.

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

Posting from far-to-sunny Seattle. GMT-8 I believe.

male Half-Elf Dectctive 1

Hey AJD! Can you tell us something about the spire itself. Has it been climed?
