Background:

Zakary is an archaeologist, but he tutors or teaches in the places that he travels to fund whatever exploration/dig he is pursuing at the time. He isn't a particularly good teacher as far as traditional curricula or classroom management goes, but he sure knows a lot and tells a lot of stories, so the students usually pick up some good things--useful or not, depending on what they want to talk about. :)

He has sold things to museums, but he doesn't work for one. He often keeps the things that he finds for his own collection, if he can afford it. You could call him a treasure hunter because of this, but he would resent it. He has studied the relics extensively and keeps journals of everything he has ever found. He catalogues them, and even notes who he sells them to. He is fascinated by the past and wants to discover all he can about the people who lived here long ago.

His shortbow is something he found on a dig, actually. It was remarkably well-preserved, made out of something he can't identify (yet), which is actually really strange because he almost always can identify things. He's carried it for a while, although he doesn't have a lot of chances to use it, but it is cool, and he feels kind of attached, even though he has been tempted to sell it. Right now, he's super broke, so that is all he has left with him in this town. He owns a house pretty far out on the borders of Elven lands, a long way away, where all the rest of his stuff is.

He's been teaching at the local school for room and board while he combs through the local ruins.
