I'm just curious if anyone else's groups reacted very negatively to Amella Venkalie? I guess "hate" is too strong a word, more like intense disdain. The group I am DMing is almost done with "Here There Be Monsters" and so far, while they loathe Avner, they direct most of their insults at Amella, who was captain of the Sea Wyvern for my group. "If we hadn't hit EVERY REEF on the way to the Isle, 'Captain' we wouldn't be walking through this hellhole island!" I've tried to play her as at least moderately sympathectic, but their disdain at her 'incompetence' seems to outweigh everything else.

Anyway, just curious if anyone else reacted this way. It kind of caught me off guard... I guess mostly because I didn't think to blame her, since I know the crashes were largely scripted. :)

I've actually decided to kind of skip the whole Sea Wyvern ship wreck, since I know my players would hate the railroading aspects of it. Instead they will find the Blue Nixie wrecked there when they pass by the place, and when they approach to investigate they will discover that Lavinia and the Jade Ravens have started trecking south to get help along the same path the PCs are supposed to. The PCs will probably send the Sea Wyvern to Farshore with the survivors and go after Lavinia and the Jade Ravens, and then they will catch up with the Ravens in the Fogmire after Lavinia has been kidnapped by Olangru.

I really like this idea, Evilash. Wish I would have used it myself... my players also reacted against the railroading of the crash.

My players were short of leveling before Parrot Island, so they leveled after. Parrot Island was a difficult encounter for them, but they pulled through.

PC: Guias Kel, 4th Level Champion (BoNS)
Location: Basement of Vanderboren Manor
Adventure: The Bullywug Gambit
Catalyst: Mud+Chief Lorpth

After the heroes saved Lavinia and were charged with rescuing the remaining Jade Ravens, they jouneyed down to the basement where they found Chief Lorpth doing his best Jabba the Hutt impersonation while Limae desperately dogged Chunkus. Guias, a valiant champion of Pelor, charged into the fray, attempting to attack the chief. Unfortunately, all that mud was pretty slippery, and he stumbled, falling flat on his face near the chief's feet. The chief proceeded to slam his nasty greatclub down on poor Guias (not very sporting!) and then when Guias rose he got another clubbing... sending him crashing down to the mud once again, only this time at -12HP.

Guias, however, was currently the apple of Lavinia's eye, so between her contacts, cash, and his friends help, he's likely on his way back from the dead... albiet with fewer XPs!

I hate to pile on, but obviously not enough to stop me from asking, so...

Me too, please!
