Description:

Yewleafs lithe wooden body is covered by a grey cloak. He wears a golden mask to conceal his machine face. A rapier can be seen at Yewleafs hip with many other blades hidden about his body. He moves with near perfect fluidness, agile as a cat.

Background:

Yewleaf Soft Step the Wyrwood Rouge

The Wyrwood is a relatively young race, a creation by a cabal of wizards who needed nimble and skilled construct servants to do their dirty work. They wanted a race that would follow there every order, magic machines to do their bidding. They made them small and agile and gave them free will. With their newfound free will the members of this new race questioned the wizards who created them. When they were forced to fight, they turned on their creators and freed themselves.

Yewleaf’s beginning was slightly different than the first of his brethren. When the original members of their race left they brought the knowledge on how to construct more of themselves allowing them to perpetuate their race. Some of these individuals put this knowledge to good use creating more Wyrwoods and building large populations and cities hidden far away from the civilized world. Not all of them had the same good intention, some of them used this knowledge to enslave and twist their offspring into doing their bidding. The potential of going from slave to master had proved to tempting for many of the race and out of this was born Yewleaf. One of these individuals was the dark and evil Elmclaw. Elmclaw was one of the first of the free willed creations of the wizards. He learned quickly that resisting them led only to pain. They quickly broke him and as they did they twisted his heart, if Wyrwoods even had one, as black as night.

When the opportunity to inflict this pain on the wizards who had brought him into this wretched place presented himself he didn’t falter. He slew many wizards on the day of the great escape. The Wyrwood fled in bunches reuniting when they managed to escape the domain of the wizards. Elmclaw was quickly banished from this collection of Wyrwoods as the evil within him quickly became evident in his actions. As he left he swiftly stole the instructions on building more constructs with a demented vision in mind. He ran far before finding a secluded location in the Fangwood forest. This is where he built his thieving empire. He built many constructs enslaving each to his will, forcing them to go steal from the many villages and cities only to bring the profits back to him. He ruled with an iron fist killing and torturing those that stepped out of line. One of the many constructs he created was Yewleaf. This continued torture and servitude twisted many of the Wyrwood Elmclaw had summoned, but few were affected as strongly as Yewleaf.

Yewleaf served Elmclaw for many years becoming one of his favored servants. He was willing to do whatever it took to get a score, he would risk life and limb and kill anyone that stood in his way. Elmclaw finally believed that he was ready for an important mission. He wanted a specific magic item located in the house of a powerful wizard. This item would grant him even more power allowing him to take the cult he built and begin to rule. He sent Yewleaf his most trusted follower to the house in Phaendar, of the wizard in possession of the magic item so he could bring it back to him. Yewleaf was unsuccessful however and captured by the wizard, a conjurer of great power named Anton. All Wyrwood were taught to distrust wizards and resist them in any way. Anton wore this barrier down slowly with kindness, he taught him, molded him, rekindled the good in him and brought him to become a faithful companion. He taught him the importance of empathy and helped him to feel for, and help others. This was a bond that gradually strengthened and for once in his life Yewleaf felt at home.

Elmclaw believed he had lost his best lieutenant that day inside the home of the wizard. He gave up on his search for the magic item believing it to be far out of reach. He continued his cruel reign over his servants never faltering. This all changed when he found that Yewleaf lived. One of his scouts had seen the Wyrwood walking the street with the wizard, holding his staff for him. Elmclaw was furious, he could not believe what he was being told, a Wyrwood working with a wizard was unheard of. He immediately assembled a group to go and retrieve Yewleaf so he could be punished for the transgression. They stealthily moved into the house hoping to catch the wizard by surprise but this would not be the case. Anton was prepared for intruders and began to conjure in aid, summoning different types of beasts to fight for him. The fighting was fast and brutal as conjured beasts and Wyrwoods slashed and hacked. It appears Anton’s fiends may have been enough to hold off the onslaught until Elmclaw slew him with a single blow as he emerged from his hiding place. Seeing this Yewleaf fled running deep into the town to hide. There he remained broken and alone, longing for his friend, and wishing vengeance upon Elmclaw.

Yewleaf knew that the time had come for him to use what he had learned for the good of the people he had stolen from and harmed for so long. He put forth these skills and the goodness given to him by Anton to join the Foxclaw Scouts and defend the many village settlers from the dangerous beasts that attacked them. He vowed that he would never let Elmclaw or any other beast harm those under his protection

Personality:

Yewleaf is very secretive and guarded, his traumatic life has left him emotionally scarred although he still acts with purpose. He is fiercely protective of friends and allies. He also shows deep hatred for beasts that prey on the people he believes are under his protection.
