BACKGROUND:

Born in the far North near the Crown of the World, Yaz’s clan had always had a somewhat fraught relationship with the Frost Giants they lived near. Ever seeking an advantage against the towering raiders, they learned to harness the spirits of ice, infusing their warriors with primal cold. Raised in this tradition, Yaz embraced the totemic might of his clan and fought against their giant foes with all his might. And lost.

Left for dead, he was discovered several days afterward by a band of traders, and Yaz remained in a fevered state for weeks as the band journeyed South. By the time he was recovered he was nearly a month’s travel from his homeland, and the traders prisoner. Sold into slavery, Yaz toiled for several years as a laborer and pit fighter before joining his fellow slaves in an uprising and slaying his master. On the run, he joined the Wild Wolves, and has been with the mercenary band ever since.

There was no shortage of big warriors with bad tempers in the Wolves, and they tended not to last very long. Anyone who charges in first was sure to draw the most attention, whatever foe they faced – a lesson that Yaz had to learn several times. Fortunately for him the ice in his blood kept him alive to fight another day. Over the years he has learned to listen to Pip and Shelly, following orders even if his natural inclination is to jump in and cause as much damage as a possible.

Yaz was particularly fond of Ayla, finding in her a connection to his homeland. Her strength, massive sword, and penchant for rushing into a fight just like he did, lead him to think of her as a good friend and a fighter that he could count on in a pinch. He thought of her as a sword sister, and the two got into no shortage bar fights together, laying waste to one tavern after another.

He wasn’t part of the mission in Ustalav, as his abilities related to cold weren’t going to be much help against undead. Instead, he finished out a boring guard assignment for the Wolves. When the survivors returned he felt sympathy rather than horror at the cursed. After all, he had a bit of the monster in himself. He can’t help but feel for these newly monstrous brothers in arms. He isn’t sure how to feel about Ayla though, as she doesn’t seem like the woman he once knew and befriended.
