    SPECIAL ABILITIES
    =================================================
    Ancient Explorer (Campaign trait) You are a student of the ancient history of Golarion, and you've come to the Shackles to explore the crumbling and vine-choked ruins of the cyclops empire of Ghol-Gan, which have lain abandoned among the isles of the Shackles for thousands of years. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Knowledge (history) and Knowledge (local) checks, and one of these skills is a class skill for you. In addition, you gain Cyclops as a bonus language. You went to a tavern called the Formidably Maid in Port Peril last night to meet a contact who supposedly had an old map of lost cyclops ruins to sell, but the drink was stronger than you had expected and you passed out before making the deal.

    Bruising Intellect (Social trait) Your sharp intellect and rapierlike wit bruise egos. Intimidate is always a class skill for you, and you may use your Intelligence modifier when making Intimidate checks instead of your Charisma modifier.

    Divination (Foresight) School You have chosen to specialize in divination spells with the Foresight focus.

    Familiar A familiar grants special abilities to its master. These special abilities apply only when the master and familiar are within 1 mile of each other. Yan's familiar is a monkey named Ko.

    Forwarned (Su) You can always act in the surprise round, but you are still considered flat-footed until you take an action. In addition, you receive a +1 bonus on initiative rolls.

    Opposition Schools Enchantment, Necromancy

    Prescience (Su) At the beginning of your turn, you may, as a free action, roll a single d20. At any point before your next turn, you may use the result of this roll as the result of any d20 roll you are required to make. If you do not use the d20 result before your next turn, it is lost. You can use this ability 7 times per day.

  • Background:

    Conceived on a traders' ship as a result of an affair between a sailor and his slave, Yan Sabele was born while the ship was docking in the Mwangi metropolis of Senghor and left under the care of his father's friend Old Djatente, never to see his parents again. Old Djatente, who was in fact only 38 when he adopted the newly born Yan, was a retired sailor and avid collector of ancient maps and documents, maintaining a prestigious library in eastern Senghor. Yan spent most of his early years in this library, feeding on stories of brave sailors and the rags-to-riches tales of pirates on the high seas.

    Not much to Old Djatente's surprise, as soon as his thirteenth birthday Yan decided he wants to join a ship's crew. Knowing that he can't and shouldn't stop the boy, Old Djatente helped sign Yan up as a deck boy in a ship known as the Frilled Wolf, captained by Slickfeather, a young Tengu who recently made a fortune returning from an adventure into the jungles and decided to purchase a ship. The Tengu happily accepted the knowledgeable Yan as crew on his ship, if simply because his share in their earnings was to be incredibly low.

    Indeed, life out on the ocean was harder than Sabele expected. He discovered himself to be prone to seasickness, and his lack of need for physical activity earlier in his life did not prepare him for hauling crates of trade goods aboard the ship. Worst of all, he couldn't get along with the rest of the crew. Not used to being ordered around, Yan found his face bruised more than once because of a misplaced remark or cheeky retaliation. In the culmination of their frustration with Yan, the crew plotted to throw the Bonuwat boy overboard one night, but were stopped in the last moment by Captain Slickfeather. Knowing that the boy is not safe on his ship, the Tengu deposited Yan back in Senghor a few weeks later. Together with Yan, the Tengu left the only crew member that truly loved the Bonuwat - a mischievous yet fairly intelligent monkey, that Yan nicknamed Ko after the sound he made when thinking.

    Worn--both physically and mentally--Yan returned to Old Djatente's library, only to find it empty. Apparently, while Yan was at sea, his mentor left on one final adventure to the north to retrieve an ancient and valuable relic. Suspecting that he won't come back any time soon, Djatente left a note instructing Yan (whom he knew would eventually return from the Frilled Wolf) to take his old spellbook and start studying its arcane ways, becoming a wizard. Trust me, the note ended, you'll find yourself on a ship again later in your life, and then you'll know it's your destiny.

    Ever trusting in his master, Yan spent the previous decade of his life taking up the mantle of a diviner and continually expanding Old Djatente's library with the help of his primate familiar. He recently received a letter offering him an ancient map should he come to the Formidably Maid tavern in Port Peril. Intrigued, and suspecting that the time for adventure has come, Yan Sabele has immediately set out to the Shackles, not knowing that he is setting out to fulfill his destiny.
