Benefit: You grew up in an area frequented by fey - and learned to be on your guard as a result, always on the lookout for little surprises. Oracle’s Curse (Ex) --> Deaf
Each oracle is cursed, but this curse comes with a benefit as well as a hindrance. This choice is made at 1st level, and once made, it cannot be changed. The oracle’s curse cannot be removed or dispelled without the aid of a deity. An oracle’s curse is based on her oracle level plus one for every two levels or Hit Dice other than oracle.

Deaf: You cannot hear and suffer all of the usual penalties for being deafened. You cast all of your spells as if they were modified by the Silent Spell feat. This does not increase their level or casting time.

Effect
--> At 5th level, you receive a +3 competence bonus on Perception checks that do not rely upon hearing, and the initiative penalty for being deaf is reduced to –2.

Unless otherwise noted, the DC to save against these revelations is equal to 10 + 1/2 the oracle’s level + the oracle’s Charisma modifier.

Assumed Form (Sp): You can change your appearance at will, as disguise self with a caster level equal to your oracle level. At 7th level, you can instead physically transform, as alter self. At 11th level, this ability lasts until you dismiss it or use it again, allowing you to keep it active while you sleep.

Appearance:

Those who know Xiaruau usually do not know exactly what she looks like. Every day she has a different appearance. One day a tall blonde woman, the next a short middle age woman, the next a young boy. However, one common theme is her preference for clothing of a green nature and in all likelihood when you meet her, she has sticks or leaves in her hair and on her clothing. Where these come from, nobody seems to know, for Xiaruau never seems to speak, simply smiling and nodding when someone questions her.

Background:

Xiaruau’s youth was peaceful. In Lastwall there are always rumors of orc raids and other horrors, but they are usually from villages closer to the Sunwall where the occasional raiding party manages to slip across the border. But in the village of Tyfain, stories of orc raids were more used to scare children into obedience than anything that anyone considered serious. In fact, it had been more than a century since an orc raiding party had even been spotted in the area.

That all changed shortly after Xiaruau’s 11th birthday. It was a peaceful calm summer evening. There was a celebration of the founding of Vigil, far to the north, many years earlier, and all the townsfolk were out and merry. Then it happened so fast. There was a horn, and moments later what seemed like hundreds of green tusked monsters charged into the village. Few of the farm folk carried weapons, and those who did were more skilled at gutting animals than orcs. The raid was over in moments, the town center covered in blood and those survivors, including Xiaruau, tied and bound in the center of the village. Xiaruau could hear screams and moans from somewhere beyond the houses, many of which were aflame. Later Xiaruau realized these were likely captured adults who were going to be taken back to Belkzen as slaves, or for more unwholesome reasons.

Xiaruau recalls a horribly tattooed orc coming into the square and shouting orders at the orcs guarding the children. Before too long, piles of lumber had been piled around the children. That was when the fires were lit. The heat, the screams, Xiaruau can never forget them. The pain of the fire was unbearable.

Thats when it happened. There was a massive explosion. A sound so loud that even today, a decade later, Xiaruau can still hear the echos, and nothing but the echos. It was so sudden, one moment she was being burned alive, then there was the smell of a million flowers. Colors so vibrant the were surreal. Strange creatures, half man, half deer, half bird. Small humanoid creatures with hair of every color, at the same time. This strange experience lasted for some time. Then, just as suddenly as it started, Xiaruau found herself lying in a verdant clearing in a forest.

Just past her eleventh birthday, scared and alone in a strange forest, Xiaruau did not know what to do. Then, other strange creatures came forth. A small woman with green skin, a small man with the legs of a goat carrying a lute, and many others. At first, Xiaruau was sure these strange creatures would kill her, but instead, they seemed to welcome her. What Xiaruau did not understand is why when these creatures spoke, they made no sound. It took her some time to realize that she could hear nothing except the never fading reverberation of the explosion when the strange experience began.

Xiaruau believes she spend several years in the forest vale living with the strange creatures. She learned much about them, including the fact that nearly all the creatures were mischievous without a care. Xiaruau learned to be vigilant and watchful for whatever traps or other unexpected foolishness one of the creatures planned, and even learned how to disable many of these devices to avoid whatever mishap might occur. Fortunately, she also learned that she had the ability to heal herself and create safe food and water (early on she learned that sometimes the creatures liked to used flavorful berries in food they prepared for her, berries which left her stomach very upset for some time).

After a number of years with these creatures, Xiaruau realized that the green woman seemed to be indicating that Xiaruau must leave the vale and the forest (the leering looks of the hoofed and horned male creatures also told her that it was time to leave). With that, Xiaruau left the vale and the forest and discovered that the whole time she had been but a few leagues from her village, or where she thought her village had been. When she arrived, she recognized the roads and overgrown fields, but of the village there was no sign, it was as though someone, or something had completely wiped the entire town from the face of Golarian. Without any other choice, she headed north toward Vigil, armed with a stick and clothing made of leaves and silk which the creatures (she now knows to have been fey) had made for her. When she arrived at the gates of Vigil, hungry, tired and alone, a guard welcomed her, not knowing what he was saying, Xiaruau simply stared at the guard. Likely considering her to be of less than average wits, the guard led her to an elderly gnome named Mother Kitnan, who took Xiaruau in and gave her a place to sleep. Mother Kitnan cared for Xiaruau for several years, but eventually Xiaruau’s mischievous nature got to the point that Mother Kitnan could no longer allow Xiaruau to remain at the orphanage.

Since this tome, Xiaruau has spent her time mostly as a beggar, or entertainer, sometimes it is hard to tell. Xiaruau has learned to somewhat overcome her inability to what others say by being able to read people’s lips to some extent. To avoid people noticing her lack of hearing, she has take up the arts as a street mime, mimicking the actions of others, especially those who appear to be of noble blood, or of high religious standing, such as the many paladins in the city. While this generally annoys those being mocked, the common folk generally find it most entertaining.

When she found the letter in her flat after returning from a day on the streets, she was quite surprised. Who would want a deaf mime? Was this some type of joke? Well, only one way to find out. And with that, she was off to see what mysteries Castle Firrine might hold.
