CLASS ABILITIES
---------------------
Weapon and Armor Proficiency
Paladins are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor (heavy, medium, and light), and with shields (except tower shields).
Aura of Good (Ex)
The power of a paladin's aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.
Detect Evil (Sp)
At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Smite Evil (Su)
Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
In addition, while smite evil is in effect, the paladin gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (if any) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the paladin targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.
The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

BACKGROUND
-------------------------------------
Xarian grew up in a bustling town where he followed in his father's footsteps of joining the temple as a guardian of the faith. He grew up learning not only the ways of fighting, but he also spent some time learning how to talk to people and make them feel at ease. This continued on until his 17th birthday when his father revealed a family secret to Xarian. Xarian's family had actually been hunting a fallen paladin by the name of Varshinal who had not only betrayed his vows, but he had gained a form of immortality from a deal with a demon. They had been hunting him for many decades and Xarian's father had been the second to take up the mantle. He had hoped in time that he would end this evil, but he was unable to. Xarian was offered the chance to join the hunt, and he gladly accepted becoming the third in the line of hunting. The last thing his father told him was that Varshinal had not only been a paladin, but he had been the brother of Xarian's grandfather. Feeling tainted by this knowledge Xarian swore that he would get revenge on this blight before he could finally rest his blade. It was with a grim determination that Xarian went off into the wide world to hunt down his former great uncle.
Traveling alone in the world is no easy task, so Xarian went with the first caravan leaving the city. The caravan was happy to have a capable fighter along, but the master of the caravan wasn't particularly happy that a paladin was joining them. Xarian did his best to calm the fears of the caravan master, but something remained between them. As they traveled Xarian tried to learn as much as he could about any sightings of his prey. The other caravan workers didn't have much to offer as they had never even heard of Varshinal before, but they did clue Xarian onto the fact that something was off about the caravan master. With time and effort Xarian discovered that the man who had been posing as the caravan master was actually an illusionist wizard. Xarian demanded to know where the original master was, but the wizard simply smiled and ran away leaving several illusion beasts to stop the young paladin. Xarian was able to see through these illusions just in time to catch the wizard. When the man admitted that he killed the old master Xarian responded in kind. Not having any leads Xarian has traveled with the caravan to the city of Kharum in the hopes of finding any news on his prey, and maybe to enjoy a few days of the festival.

PERSONALITY & APPEARANCE
-------------------------
Personality
Xarian is a grim fellow. Even though he can make people around him feel at ease he usually is focused on his mission, and his families taint. This leads to many people thinking he might be cursed in some manner, but he shrugs that off as simple superstition. He does care about what happens to people, but he cares more about bringing vengeance upon the people who cause pain and suffering rather than help those who are suffering. This doesn't mean he doesn't care he just prioritizes the safety of the community over the suffering of a few. While he is only 18 years old Xarian doesn't think about every truly living life for himself. If he were to complete his mission he might loosen up, but he would begin searching for a new target to give vengeance to.
Appearance
Xarain is just of an average height, and slightly bulkier build than most people. His red hair while well maintained shows no sign of any frivolous care. His armor of horn is slightly yellowed with age, but it is covered with the gold and red painted over it. A large weapon rests over his shoulder with quick access always being allowed. The weapon itself has only the word Vengeance burned onto the side and the head is made of darkened steel. Xarian's dull brown eyes are constantly staring at anyone around him determining who might be the next target of Vengeance.
