I probably would've survived - my hit points were equal to it's average damage, and I die at -23. I couldn't have survived the round after though (and if there's a crit I'm pretty much dead). The reach was what was killing me, I think I typed a post where I withdrew three times, and each time I had to remind myself that reach would not make that work.

Sorry about the slow posting at the end, but I was at a con at the end, trying to post between slots. That plan didn't work out well when I was running Bonekeeps and going longer than expected.

Well crap. We'll see if I live through this.

The healing puts me 1 damage and fully heals everyone else. Then Xantrian takes 48 damage, putting him at 49.

"We need this to die, NOW!"
Xantrian channels energy, only healing himself for Channel: 5d6 + 12 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 6, 4) + 12 = 32. Then he uses Energy Body: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16.

Heads up - I'm paying attention to the posting, but I really need to know whether or not that vrock will be dead or not before I take my turn. It matters a lot as to which resources I attempt to use since I'm stick inside the reach of a creature with reach.

The damage puts me at 49 damage taken. Then I start my turn and take the 5 bleed. Then life link triggers and I take 5 off of Algar, Boron and C2. This puts me at 69 damage, Algar at 6 and Boron at 15.

"Uh, guys? Can we take care of this? This is going to hurt."
Xantrian grabs his holy symbol of Lymnieris and releases a burst of positive energy, hitting all of the creatures besides the vrock. Channel: 5d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 4, 6) + 1 = 22 Then Xantrian uses energy body to heal himself. Energy Body: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

"Geez. Please don't kill yourself out there. I kinda like you."

Boron takes 25 and I take 29 (two instances of odd damage). Then the start of my turn happens and I take 5 off of Algar and Boron. Since this is magical healing, Boron's bleeding should stop. This puts Algar at 11 damage and Boron at 20.

"Don't worry! I'll help you!"
Xantrian spends a standard action activating a life link with the fallen crusader. Then he uses energy body to heal himself. Energy Body Heal: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13. Lastly he takes a 5 ft step to J14.

"Ah good there's one of you. Any more out there? Team medic is standing by!"

At the start of my turn, life link triggers and takes 5 damage off of Algar onto me.

"You wish to try to stop me from helping injured crusaders? Well guess what? You won't like me when I'm healing!"
Upon saying that, Xantrian becomes a transparent outline of himself, with light pouring throughout his body. He looks as if he was brimming to the tip with positive energy, almost like he became a positive energy elemental.

Xantrian spends a standard action to turn on energy body, then spends a move action healing himself. Since he has 10 damage, his static mods on healing himself will take care of the damage. Then he takes a 5 foot step to K15.

"Well now you've done it. Every demon on this battlefield is going to come over here. Hey crusaders! Pay attention to the bg glowing stupid aasimar! Hi! We want to help you! Don't make him turning into a stupid beacon for nothing!"

Not that any of this matters, since you can't be a templated creature anyway under a polymorph spell unless you have a special ability that lets you do so. A fungal nymph is just what Bestiary 4 uses as an example of a Fungal Creature.

Ah, crap. I just noticed that Amazing Red made his post ending combat while I was typing my post detailing my turn. Well, 2 CLW should take care of all the damage from that last fight, since I'll have 22 damage on me and each CLW will heal a minimum of 11 damage. Boron will be left with 2 damage on him.

Anyone else want to make a knowledge planes check? I wanna use my out of character knowledge :p

Assuming that the AC24 hit didn't actually hit, then Boron would actually take 73 damage which is 37 for me and 36 for him. Then life link triggers which takes 5 damage from Boron onto me.

"Oof. That actually hurt. Well, time for me to do my job."
Xantrian channels positive energy to heal. (Note that due to range, this will not hit the vrock, although I could select him out even if he was in range.)

I'm guessing that it's staggered 8 rounds then? I'm not going to do anything then. We've pretty much got this battle won. Note that if the battle ends and I'm not online, but people have damage on them, I can spend spell slots to heal myself now. (since we're in the last iteration) I have a ton of slots still left.

Sorry, I've been trying to figure out if I can do anything useful, but all I have are slashing weapons and resist energy can only target creatures, not weapons. Boo... So let's make it make 2 saves versus staggered then?

That would be funny - however he would be greatly disappointed if he did take over me. Have you seen my to hit bonus with him?

And I'm fine on wand charges as of now - my theory behind this character is that I will spend a certain amount of my wealth on keeping the party alive. (With the rest going for random cool stuff and a phylactery of positive channeling.) I may be switching to real spells soon to heal myself anyway...

(I also haven't used this wand since 1st level.)

Well, that's it for my tricks. The range on the shield other is 170ft, so you should have 3 rounds before it and the life link break unless someone comes after me. (Which, if you think you can defeat the encounter in 3 rounds, you may just want to do that first.)

Boron takes 8 points from the schir's horn, and the other half gets transferred to me. This puts the damage totals at Xantrian (35), Boron (14), Gregor & Algar (0). Assuming Boron doesn't heal himself in between the life links, 10 damage is transferred over to me via life link, putting Boron at 4 damage and me at 45. Then I pull out my CLW wand and get to work. (I figure that we're actually going to have some big fight at some point where I'll actually need my spells, so this is one of the few times I should actually use my wand.)

CLW charges (rolling lots, seeing how many I need): 10d8 ⇒ (7, 3, 7, 6, 3, 5, 3, 2, 8, 3) = 47
(It looks like I'll need 5 charges to heal the 45 damage. If you're doing the math at home, don't forget I have Fey Foundling and Positive Energy Feedback Loop. Makes the CLW wands go much farther.)

After poking himself with his wand multiple times, Xantrian throws back up detect magic to see if there is anything magical in the area.

Boron only takes 7 damage from the Schir's horn, as 7 damage is transferred over to me.

At the start of my turn, life link triggers. I take 5 damage off of Boron. He should have 6 damage on him, I have 27, and everyone else should be uninjured.

"You are dying quickly. You can follow the lead of your compatriots, or you can leave and find yourself living a bit longer."

Xantrian attempts to demoralize S4. Intimidate w/ Guidance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 vs. 10 + HD + Wis. Success means that they are shaken for 1 round, plus 1 round for every 5 which I beat the DC by.

Xantrian notices the schirs moving around the south of the line, and attempts to stay out of their way by 5-foot stepping to F9.

"Xantrian, you know you are about as scary as a firefox begging for food. Besides, these demons are summoned. They're not going anywhere!"

Boron only takes 9 damage from the Schir's horn, as 10 damage is transferred over to me.

At the start of my turn, life link triggers. I take 5 damage off of Boron. He should have 4 damage on him, I have 15, and everyone else should be uninjured.

"Vile beasts. You have little hope in attacking us. Go back whence ye came."

Xantrian attempts to demoralize S5. Intimidate w/ Guidance: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 vs. 10 + HD + Wis. Success means that they are shaken for 1 round, plus 1 round for every 5 which I beat the DC by.

Reasoning:
15 damage isn't enough for me to start worrying yet, and SR + fire resistance means there's not much offensively coming from me. If they each have less than 46 hp, then there's not much point in me blowing resources on the rest of this fight, so I'll attempt a debuff even if I'm not great at it so I'm doing something. (Just including this if later you need to bot my character you know what I would do.)

Xantrian also takes the time to stow his wand of bless back on his waist.

"Excellent tactics men. Keep the line and our enemies will be sure to fall! If you do not have weapons made of cold iron or aligned with the angels, now would be the time to switch!"

We're essentially using block initiative here. We all go, then they all go, then we all go, they they all go. You just delaying until after them really only changes the round number written on top of your post.

Here's the situation if you delay:

  • Schirs go
  • Algar goes

Here's the situation if you do something else now (like cast divine favor like you wanted to):

  • Algar does something
  • Schirs go
  • Algar goes

Because of the block initiatives, you are effectively losing a turn if you delay here. If you want to hold the line, then either buff yourself or ready (which will let you act before the schirs).

Xantrian moves back to F10 because he is squishy and he knows it. He draws his wand of bless as he moves.

He then casts bless off of the wand. The four of us now have a +1 morale bonus to attack rolls and to saves versus fear effects.

Lastly, he tries to make a knowledge check to identify the ferocious demons. Knowledge(planes) including Guidance: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

(For the record, my assumption is that I can dispel magic traps just fine with dispel magic. If I have to counter the spell effect instead to permanently disable it, then I do that instead.)

I'm all for using dispel magic on it, but other party members should have a shot at identifying it to see if it's even worth using a 3rd level slot on or if the chance of failing is too high that we might as well trigger it to see what happens.

EDIT: Perhaps we have someone trigger it and I try to counterspell whatever happens? If it's a summoning circle presumably it will try to summon something?

Gamin speaks quickly to console the huddled group. "Do not fear fair citizens, we shall make sure that the place is safe for habitation once more!"

Xantrian looks at the party. "You heard Gamin. Let's do this!" He starts to turn to the house, but takes one moment to turn back to the wide-eyed innocents. "Oh yeah, don't worry. He's supposed to do that. Intelligent weapon, not demon in disguise. Nothing to worry about. Let's go."

I'm going to be terrible at actually finding anything. While sweeping this house, I'll have detect magic up and scanning. I actually have a decent spellcraft in case we run into any magical traps. Gamin will maintain a guidance on me at all times. (This is my default assumption while I am weilding Gamin.)

All right. Let's get this party started. I start by life linking the party and casting a reach shield other on Boron and Gregor.

Here's the short version. At the start of each of my turns, if any of the three of you have 5 or more damage on you, 5 of that damage is transferred to me. For the two of you who are shield other'd, I will take half of all damage you guys take. If the damage is odd, I take the extra one. Also you have a +1 resistance bonus to saves and a +1 deflection bonus to AC. (If you don't have anything better.)

I'm all for going to the confluence district first, since we're already here. (It's where the Starrise Spire is.)

Of course, they probably just sent us up here to deal with another stupid dungeon again. Where's the glory in that?"
