Forgive me if this has been done before...for I have never seen it in published form. Ok, with the constant concern about class balance on these forums I have a new/old idea.

Back in 2nd edition in the DMG they had this little, simple table for dms to create new classes. I greatly expanded on that table and birthed a campaign world my group quite enjoyed for a couple years. The idea was to be able to "build" your perfect class, the one that best represents your ideas and playstyle. (I know other game systems have systems like this, but I'm talking dnd or pf here)

I have done a similiar system for 3.5 Dnd, but with our current campaign entering its 8th(?) year I did want to disrupt our group atm. We have done some playtesting, but thats about it.

I doubt Paizo would be interested in such a venture ( and I have no desire to publish my own work for the masses to ridicule) so how about ANYONE out there taking a stab at a point buy character creation system for Pathfinder? I know most novices need their role developed for them at first, but I think many advanced players would be interested in such an idea. And I am not talking about a Skills and Powers approach here, but a true pick your options thing.

I suppose that wouldnt end all player complaints as folks would probably be argueing over "why does ability A cost this much while ability B, etc" but perhaps it would finally bring some true game balance for those seeking it. Additionally, some people (myself included) would enjoy building truly (or mostly) unique pcs.

Just a thought. Anyone know of anything like this still in print and thats any good?

I love magic. Let me repeat that. I LOVE magic. In the 3.5 campaign I am currently playing in I have an 8th level caster who has access to all clerical, druidic and (as I find or buy them) wizard spells of 1st- 3rd level. (Bragging rights awarded to the first person who knows how I did this using only Wotc 3.5 material)

She will very soon have access to all 4th level spellls of the above, with 5th level spells looming very close as well. My request is thus, share some of your favorite spell tricks/combos or create some with access to all spells up to 5th level. I am looking for things that are greater than the sum of their parts, or just fun tricks as well.

Example: I thought of this one the other day after reading a thread here. Take a 15' by 15' area, casting explosive ruins in every 5' square but the center.(Maybe on little metal plates attached to the floor, or carve them into the stone?) In the center square place a chest warded with a glyph of warding that triggers an area effect dispel magic- 20'R. (Yes I know the glyph description says any harmful spell of 3rd or less, so maybe some spell research would have to be done to create a dispel glyph) The dispel magic is set at minimum caster level so that it will fail against the explosive ruins, thus detonating them for a total of 48d6 force damage to anyone in the AoE.

I look forward to reading some of your favorite tactics/combos! Have fun!

I finally got my hands on a copy of Ultimate Magic today. And while its not perfect (typos, some vague descriptions, etc) I must say that I LOVED IT! Good job to you Paizo folks for keeping alive and even IMPROVING my favorite pnp rpg rules!
Magic has always been my greatest joy in rpgs, and sadly computer games and MMO's just dont allow for the versatility and true art of spellcasting. It's depressing to see so many gamer's perception of magic being limited to dots, dps, pets, etc. Even DnD became part of the "pushbutton" mindset with 4th edition.
True magic is a blend of ingenuity, art, and creative thinking often mixed with a dash of dumb luck. I guess I have been blessed with being able to game under alot of good DMs who can manage to run a fantasy world with fairness, vision, and imagination while still holding it together solidly with a framework of rules.
Anyway, thanks again Paizo for a great book that has already filled the corridors of my mind anew with a host of character possibilities!

This seems almost too good to be true, so I wanted to make sure it works the way I think it does. Let's suppose I have a level 6 Two Handed Fighter (APG) with an 18 strength and the following feats: weapon focus (greatsword), weapon specialization (greatsword), power attack, furious focus, and vital strike. Now, using Overhand Chop and weapon training bonuses, am I correct in thinking this fighter could make a single attack at +12 to hit and do 4d6+17 damage with his greatsword?(all bonuses included) Furthermore, it appears to me this fighter could still take a move action and perform this attack.
I know this isn't exactly awesome damage or anything, but it's still pretty decent and I wanted to make sure it works this way. Feed back appreciated. =)

Greetings and salutations! My gaming group and I are getting ready to start playing pathfinder so we are currently looking over the rules. Most rules questions Ithat I have had have been answered in various other threads, but one question I have WAS asked but seemed to be overlooked: If eidolons and summoners share item slots, what happens to any items an eidolon is wearing if it is forced to return to it's own plane? Furthermore, what about anything it might be carrying? (Like extra loot etc)
This may seem a small matter, and I could easily come up with a house rule for it, but I was curious to see if there was an "official" policy. The reason being is that it occurs to me that one could create an eidolon that served as an excellent thief (using unfetter and bond senses, of course) and if all items went with it when it "poofed" then it could be use it to make kamikazee thieving raids. On the other hand, if all items remain behind then a summoner would have to make sure they retrieved important dropped items.(shared items)
I imagine it would be fair to say worn items went with the eidolon but carried would not. This still leaves a little room for abuse, but not as much. Maybe there should be an attunement time for its items, say 24 hours? Any thoughts?
