Special Attacks and Adventuring Abilities:
Finesse Training (Ex) (EITR version): At 1st level, a rogue gains Deft Maneuvers as a bonus feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any one weapon group listed under the fighter’s Weapon Training class feature. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with a finesse weapon or an agile weapon from this group, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier. The rogue can select a second weapon group at 11th level and a third at 19th level. Maw or Claw: This tiefling exhibits a powerful, toothy maw that deals 1d6 points of damage. These attacks are primary natural attacks. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability racial trait. Prehensile Tail: Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery. Sneak Attack (+1d6): Deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level and increases by 1d6 every 2 rogue levels thereafter. Ranged attacks count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. This additional damage is precision damage and is not multiplied on a critical hit. With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (such as a sap, unarmed strike, or whip), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack—not even with the usual –4 penalty. The rogue must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with total concealment. ==STATISTICS AND OTHER ABILITIES==

==DESCRIPTION==
Background:
Whisper grew up far to the south in the benighted city of Westcrown. Born Invitia of House Mezinas, her mother Ignikerulia (Igni for short) considered her an unfortunate byproduct of a necessary diabolic contract Igni had “needed” to attain some advancement or another in the ranks among Westcrown’s nobility. Igni magnanimously decided not to cut Whisper’s throat at birth, thinking she might turn her into a useful servant, so she had her own personal staff raise her. The servants called her “Whisper” because of her quiet, raspy voice. Even young, Whisper was bright and inquisitive—her favorite question was “why.” She could pick up on some of the workings of the magical devices in her mother’s laboratory, which she entered frequently precisely because she was forbidden to. Whisper was forbidden to learn magic, but magic has always fascinated her, and she maintains an unusual knack for understanding magical items. Trying to understand her own nature—and protect herself from her mother’s diabolism—she also snuck off with books about the planes to understand them better. Igni and her housekeeper Zora decided Whisper was most useful out of the house and away from Igni’s library, so they trained her as a courier. Whisper adapted to this quite well. She didn’t have much regard for her mother (she was only vaguely aware, as a child, that they were related at all) or her house, but she liked to be useful, because she was then less likely to be beaten or fed to an imp. She became quite a good messenger, delivering items not only directly to houses but also leaving and collecting dead drops and getting into places to leave “messages” (probably, magic glyph traps wrapped into an envelope, which she learned very quickly to recognize and not trigger). In her travels, she also became good at listening and picking up information, and she built up a decent side business trading in said information, discreetly of course. When she was 19, House Mezinas entrusted Whisper to take a package well out of town—all the way up the river, through the mountains, to Kintargo. It was purportedly paperwork for a long term trade agreement with contacts in one of the houses there. However, she only had enough funds to travel to Kintargo; the recipients of the package were supposed to pay her on receipt to fund her journey home. They didn't; they insisted she'd been paid in advance and refused to pay her anything more than a cursory "bonus" that barely covered room and board for a few days--and their very burly guards in arcane tattoos made her decide not to argue over the fact. Whether there was a misunderstanding, a betrayal, or her own house had contrived the scenario in part to get rid of Whisper, Whisper found herself stranded, far from home… and she had absolutely no problem with that. Kintargo was a fascinating city, even if oppressed by Thrune; echoes of rebellion reminded her of subversive forces she’d encountered at home, and here, away from her mother, Whisper could dare hope. Hope she doesn’t always have to be a second class citizen. Hope that Cheliax could be unbound from the darkness that makes life for so many so miserable. Not that Whisper wanted a better life for others, per se. But if she could get a better life, fine if others can too. The city was full of mysteries that piqued her curiosity as well, and the odd tales and rituals she read of in her mother’s library particularly has triggered an obsession with the strange bells of the Temple of Asmodeus; not that she is drawn to them, but she fears their strangeness, and always wants to understand better what she might fear. So she’s started building a new life in Kintargo as a freelance courier (and information broker). Her profession recently put her in touch with a half-elven woman named Cassandra, who Whisper suspects of having ties to the Silver Ravens. Knowing more about them would definitely be valuable on several levels, so Whisper has worked to cultivate something of an alliance with Cassandra. Cassandra is good at keeping her own secrets, but she is also openly warm and one of few people who has been kind to Whisper, though Whisper would never admit any sisterly fondness in return, whether she feels it or not. Besides, Cassandra has ceased being in touch with her over the last couple weeks—all the better not to care. Except now Whisper’s received word that a human male has information on Cassandra's whereabouts and her possible Silver Raven allies and that he will be at the recently announced protest. Eh, why not go and see what this is all about? If she’s lucky, she’ll at least get some information worth selling. Physical Traits/Appearance:
HeroForge Portrait As long as she doesn’t open her mouth and her tail remains concealed beneath her cloak, Whisper either fades into the crowd or, if someone notices her, sees her as looking a bit ill and thus probably best avoided. Of average height and build on the gaunt side, the 20-year-old has a plain, drawn face with lanky dark hair and sickly-pale skin. Perhaps her nicest feature is her grey eyes, but even then, at least if she’s not focused on you, they look a little dull and hollow. Her thin lips are pocked with odd, tiny scars, the cause of which seems unfathomable... until Whisper smiles. That’s when half her face erupts in a disconcerting sea of jagged, white, razor-sharp teeth. Sometimes a little blood still stains them from her recently biting someone who thought she was a helpless mark. Her voice is quiet and raspy, and talking past her teeth is a bit troublesome, so she tends to keep things short. Whisper favors blacks and grays, with hints of blue or purple for color. Her combat leathers are black. Sometimes her particular fashion choices change to suit the trends of the area she’s in (the better to go unnoticed), but she always wears a long dark grey cloak, which serves the purpose of hiding her tail when she feels she needs to—and hiding any number of other things as well. Personality:
Whisper focuses on surviving, not being noticed by the wrong people, and making money, in that order. All this is tempered by an enduring curiosity. She would never admit it, but she takes great joy in discovery, especially when it involves getting an odd arcane trinket to work. As she gets older and more assured of her own capabilities, curiosity is starting to win out even over survivalism… sometimes. Whisper has no inclinations romantically or carnally. Her only passion is information and what she can do with it. Fiend-blooded and raised in a Chelish household, Whisper knows little compassion because she’s seldom been shown it. At the same time, she’s never found a point to cruelty, and she has some empathy for servants and tieflings under the thumb of literally diabolic masters. She tends to do for herself first, her loyalties second, and if anyone else gets left behind after that, that’s their problem. Still, she understands being a lone wolf can be as dangerous as being too reliant on others, and while she’s not exactly charming, she can work with others well enough. She is simply careful—where she comes from, trust is the greatest and rarest commodity there is. Build notes: Depending on story and party needs, Whisper is set up to dip into wizard and then arcane trickster, but I am also prepared to keep her pure rogue |
