Weyve applauds politely when the speeches end. He turns to Tsaong and shrugs. "Not very inspiring perhaps, but you can tell that there will be no nonsense on the voyage at least," observes Weyve. "Shall we mingle?" Weyve goes over to the bar, and smiling at those around him, he reaches for a wine glass. But the wine glass slides along the bar just far enough that when he grips his hand it closes on nothing but air. He looks down at the glass again. He reaches for it more carefully, and once again it slides away, as if the wine glass itself feared the touch of Weyve's hand. Suddenly, Weyve practically leaps at the bar with both hands. The wine glass darts away from his right hand, but Weyve's left was waiting in ambush down the bar and the glass slides right into Weyve's grip. He snaps up the glass and raises it to his lips. His eyes dart around quickly to see if anyone was watching, and when he meets someone's eyes he smiles cheerily and raises his glass as if in a toast. Then he averts his eyes and quickly walks away. He comes over to 1d4 ⇒ 4 Makanaky and introduces himself. "Hello there! I'm Weyve. It's a pleasure! What might be your specialty that earned you a place on this voyage?"

Just an FYI guys: Holiday Plans: This Friday (i.e. tomorrow), Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I have Christmas events to attend (and I may be busy Tuesday too). I will be travelling for some of that period. I still expect to have internet access and I'll try to get online in that period but my posting frequency may suffer. Wednesday night I will be back home and things will return to normal for me.

Shadow has been out of touch for a while. I don't recall the reason but there's a recruitment he was hosting that he postponed because of IRL issues. He moved the deadline for it to the 18th so hopefully that means he'll be back by then.

Tsaong & Theatre: "It seemed to me like an adaptation that would have made him a better swimmer. Like a bottle-nosed dolphin. I don't know why no one could see that." Weyve shrugs. "Perhaps it is simply a matter of fashion. Next year perhaps good Cyrano's nose will be all the rage."
"But it certainly was a good performance. Very open, and intimate. The plays I used to see in Goka were always very formal." Weyve yawns. "But I think you are right. We should turn in. We went to a tavern with music and then saw a play... that is a full evening. Perhaps tomorrow we should see the maritime outfitters to see if there is anything we might need on our voyage. -Assuming we are selected, of course."

Market & Tsaong: "He barely asked us anything at all! I have to wonder if they have some other source of information about us. And that idea makes me a bit nervous. Though I did send a letter in advance with some details."
Weyve looks around at the market and shrugs. "You're right, we should try to find something to occupy our time. What is there to do in this city? I don't really know Almas; it's my first time here. I wouldn't mind going to a tavern if there's music. Or a theater! I wonder if they have any good theater here?"

Market: Quote: The trip also confirms that Smedrik is the first point of contact for those who would wish to join the Expedition. Indeed, all port cities have become aware of this Expedition and the number of interested parties has swelled to at least double the amount interested since the return of the Liberty’s Herald. Anything about how applicants find out if they are selected?

Tsaong: "Hmm... how will we know when the selections are made? If we don't want to bother Smedrik, perhaps we can ask around at the marketplace and find out what the public of this city knows."
"I think the market is over that way." Assuming we go there:

Citadel, and walking away: Quote: "Are we doin gthis because we want, or ma I somebody else's tool?" "Can it not be both?" asks Weyve with a smile. "The organizers have their goals, and we have to serve those if we want to advance ours. It is meant to be a sort of exchange." Weyve shrugs. "Just the way of the world. They didn't create this expedition for our benefit." Weyve frowns. "Still... one thing bothers me. Are we to simply wait to be summoned? Or should we return at a specific time to see if we have been chosen? He said nothing of the matter. I think I shall visit this Smedrik again tomorrow, to check of there is any progress, and to remind him of my candidacy."

Citadel: "As with my friend Mister Tsaong here, I only just arrived in the city. So I am in need of some form of lodgings until our ship sails. Whatever you care to arrange would be fine, I'm sure."
"And yes, I am quite keen on joining this expedition. It seems like th eperfect opportunity to prove my own abilities and continue my family's traditions."

Prologue & Tsaong Cho: Weyve shrugs. "There were plenty of rats in Goka, too, but people there didn't eat them... not that often anyway."
"As to ships," Weyve smiles. "Sure, I can swim, and I won't drown in an ocean. But swimming is just as tiring as walking, or riding. You need to rest some time, but a ship sails faster than a man can walk, and sails for 24 hours in a day. We took a ship from Goka back to Absalom." FYI guys expect my posts to slowed down a bit soon. Here's what's going on. Right now we have a staffing shortage at my workplace, and I have been pulling extra shifts. This has left me pretty tired and worn out. I also expect to be training some new hires soon (though I'm not sure when), and since I do most of my posts from work it is unlikely I will be able to post much on those days, but we don't have a schedule for that person yet, so I don't yet know which days I am doing that, and I may not end up knowing until I arrive for my shift. So since I may not have any warning I'm letting you guys know now. The training will probably be spread over three days. After that I am leaving for a much needed Vacation on September 30th. I expect to have internet access, so I should be able to post in that period, though it may be a bit irregular. Sorry for any problems this might cause, and if I don't respond in a reasonable time bot me as needed. Things should be back to normal for me in mid-October.

Prologue & Tsaong Cho: "A plainsman!" Weyve exclaims.
"Yes, I'm sure that will be important. Almost everywhere we go will be trekking through the wild. Even if we find some lost Azlanti city the wild will have reclaimed it by now." "I also speak Azlanti, though I mostly use it when deciphering old documents. I rarely get to use it in conversation." As they approach the food stall, Weyve looks at Tsaong Cho. "Rat? Do they have many rats out on the steppe? I can't say I've had it before. It would be a change from fish and crustaceans, certainly. In Goka it was not considered to be something that people ate normally, though I don't know that much about Absalom..."

Makanaky wrote: Snowball, for example? Yeah, snowball is a great spell. Actually it's pretty OP at high levels, since it ignores SR and there's no save. Though at first level, actually hitting touch AC can be hard unless your wizard is built for it. In the games I run I actually make snowball a second level spell. It is still worth casting at second level.

Yeah, Urea is one of the more powerful reagents. Most of them just boost damage by one point. If you have access to a decent cold spell at 1st level then it's very nice.

Prologue & Tsaong Cho: For the record, Weyve is a gillman and looks human most of the time (unless you can see his neck). But he turns blue and dark when he casts a shadow spell; the more powerful, the more dark he gets. I really liked the picture and wanted a way to work it in. But if that is confusing I can switch to a more human avatar image.
Quote: "I am curious. What skills do you bring to the table that you think will win you a space in the expedition?" Weyve smiles. "My family are scholars - myself included. We have long studied the relics and history of ancient Azlant, for my people are descended directly from them. We consider it important to hang on to our history, and recover more of it if possible. My grandfather Arkas was one of the people who recovered the keystone of the Arch of Aroden and brought it here as a gift. If you are the type that doesn't care for cities - and I know they are not for everyone - then you probably don't have much use for those skills. But they may be important in understanding what we find out there." "What would me more of interest to you is that I am also a healer. My mother studied the practice that you call Pei Zin, and she taught me a great deal. I am hardly a master yet, but I can do a great deal given the right herbs. And also I augment that with magical healing. I know a few other spells as well." "Furthermore, my people can breathe water as well as air." Weyve winks. "When Azlant fell my ancestors hid in the sea, and learned to live there. It is a talent that is useful occasionally." Weyve looks Tsaong Cho over. "And you? You have the look of a warrior about you. I'm sure we will need plenty of those!"

Prologue & Tsaong Cho: Weyve looks crestfallen for a moment. But only a moment - his smile brightens again, and he nods to the captain.
"Thank you sir! I'll find this Smedrik right away. Thanks for your help, and I hope to see you again soon." As he heads over to the gangplank he sees a Tien man speaking to the First mate, and he overhears the name "Smedrik." Once the first mate has finished speaking to the man, Weyve steps up. "Your pardon, but I couldn't help overhearing... are you off to see this man Smedrik? My name's Weyve. The Captain gave me the same instructions. I was going to head there directly. Perhaps you'd care to join me?" Once on their way, Weyve remarks in Tien:

Here we are! Looking forward to the game. GM: My archetype (Pai Zin Practitioner) has the fluff that it uses herbalism for the purposes of medicine. But aside from the ability to identify potions with the Profession (herbalist) skill, and do some alchemy with it, it mainly just uses the skill for a class feature at 7th level (removing conditions with Lay on Hands). So I wanted to know: 1. Would you allow me to treat things like disease and poison with Profession (herbalist) instead of Heal skill? 2. Would you allow me to buy a "herbalist's kit" that works like a masterwork tool or something? If yes, I would like to adjust my gear to get that. Also: Haven't adjusted background yet but I will get on that shortly.

Prologue: Weyve watches the Peregrine with barely contained excitement.
There she is! That's the ship that will take me to Arcadia! My voyage of exploration will begin soon! My grandfather would be pleased. But I must do better than my uncles and aunts. Aside from my father, none of Arkas' children ever came back home. He watches the ship as it pulls in to the dock and moors. He waits patiently, repressing his anticipation, as crew members and passengers disembark. Finally, once it seems that everyone who is getting off has done so, he rushes towards the gangplank. "Ahoy! Weyve Murkwater here! Permission to come aboard?" The crewman has barely replied before Weyve eagerly trots up the gangplank. He leaps to the deck with a big grin, and looks around the ship, looking for the captain. When he sees the captain he trots up and stands at attention smartly, bowing quickly. "Captain! It's an honor, sir. I'm Weyve Murkwater, one of your passengers bound for Talmandor's Bounty. The company has arranged my passage. I know you just made port, but I'm eager to take my berth, and wanted to inquire as to when you plan to sail." He looks around, gradually becoming aware that he is making something of a scene, and that some of the sailors are staring. "Ah, yes... yes. Also, I wanted to mention to you that though I am not one of your crew, I have a number of skills that you might find useful. I am a healer both magical and mundane, and should you ever have a man overboard I am also a strong swimmer. I can also make small repairs of mundane objects if necessary. I would be happy to be useful to the ship if you care to call on me." diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 Hah! :) Weyve smiles winningly, hoping he has made a good impression, but begins to wilt when he sees the captain's scowl.
Updating crunch now. Realized I get an extra trait. Also rethinking some traits based on class features making them redundant. Also realized I built on 20 points and actually have 25. GM Shadow: How do you feel about the Aquatic Survivalist regional trait? The fluff says it is for the "plane of water" but it seems to me that it would be good for an aquatic character. |
