Born and raised in the outlying farmlands of Nuln, he enlisted in the service when he came of age, hoping for glory and coin. Attending the Imperial Gunnery School at Nuln he learned the basics of gunpowder, how to craft shot and use it to deadly effect.
Waldemar was a bit reckless and quick to anger. A rival classmate wronged him and a duel was challenged. The gentlemanly thing to do in these duels that would oft come about was to fire in the air, thus ending the disagreement and defending ones honor. Waldemar would have none of that, this person, had to pay.
Leaving the school he fell into with saltier lot and found himself a hired thug. It paid his living and that was that.
