Liberty's Edge

I'm considering getting into Shadowrun. I've heard it's a lot of fun and I figured I should test it out myself before I buy any books or materials. I wanted to get anyone's opinion on the game here who plays it. What do you like about the game? What don't you like about the game? I know it's only a d6 game so don't use that in any of your answers lol.

I want to specifically know about combat and how that all plays out. I don't understand how combat would play out if you don't use a play mat (I've asked around and people say that most don't). How do you roleplay out combat? You need to be able to see the enemy to know what you're doing don't you? And if you don't use a mat and minis then what's the point of a speed/agility ability? That whole aspect just confuses me.

But generally I just want opinions on the game and how you feel it's popularity is doing.

So thought I'd ask what some other popular tabletop RPGs are nowadays. I know theres PF and D&D but what else is out there? I like fantasy type ones as well as just RPGs that give a lot of free reign or options in what you can be class/profession wise.

So what other ones are out there?!

Note: These can be d20 or not - doesn't matter. Just Tabletop RPGs is the only criteria.

Also...I put this in Off-Topic as well and apologize for the duplicate, but figured it would get more attention here and be answered faster (hopefully). Any admin, please delete the same topic in Off-Topic Discussion. Thanks and sorry again!

So I was looking through the list of spells and I see a TON of them. But I've also noticed a lot seem to be for roleplaying purposes. Is this the case with most of the spells or are there more that have use in combat as well?

Liberty's Edge

Hey everyone. I hope this is the right place for this. I was just wondering if there's anyone that plays PF in the Tampa/Lutz/Land O' Lakes area (closer to the latter two). If so, let me know!

Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

After looking around a bit, I've realized I'm really confused as to what all these 3 are. Can anyone explain them all to me please?

Liberty's Edge

Where can I find information on what stat each class prefers? I can't seem to find it and I'm messing around with PCGen and it's important to know which stat I need lol

Liberty's Edge

So I thought I'd write this thread as kind of a question to the community (being new and all); what are your favorite multiclass combos? And I've heard that spell casters almost never multiclass. Why is that? If someone could explain that to me, that'd be great.

So I guess let's get on with it :D

Liberty's Edge

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Are there any good free character creators out there? I know Hero Lab is the best and most widely used paid one but I can't afford $30 for the software plus any other licenses I want for PF right now. I'll get it at some point, but is there any good free ones?

Or is pen & paper + CRB the best way?

Liberty's Edge

I'm completely new to Pathfinder and tabletop RPGs in general. I don't have any of the materials for Pathfinder but was wondering if anyone would want to or be interested in an online campaign. I'm completely unsure if I'd actually be able to follow through with this but if there's interest I'll do my best to work something out.

Preferably use d20.net as the VTT and a day will be determined later, but it will probably have to be a weekend day (either Sat. or Sun.).

It'd be good if we had an experienced GM or DM using d20.net and maybe one experienced player, but it doesn't really matter.

Thanks for your attention :D

Liberty's Edge

Is Pathfinder ever updated to new editions or new mechanics added? Is anything ever balanced or changed to make the game a little more balanced?

In reading some guides, it seems that there's really only one way to build each class and that's kinda' disappointing. Unless I'm wrong of course :P

Liberty's Edge

It's my birthday Friday Nov. 01. I will be 23 years old and was born on Nov 1, 1990. I REALLY WANT THE BEGINNER BOX!

It's on my wishlist and if someone buys it for me, I'd be a very happy person and it'd be the best present ever :D

Okay, done begging now!

You could also wish me a happy birthday lol

Liberty's Edge

So I've been considering playing online as well as in person. Has anyone done this before? What are the popular websites to use and which one is really the most popular? Which one is the easiest/most user friendly? Does playing online take away from the in person roleplaying element or is it really negligible? I'm sure I'll think of more questions too, but that's it for now :D. Thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Hey everyone. I'm new to tabletop games completely and have only played one game of D&D 4e. I have a thread up asking for the differences between the two and I've been swayed more towards PF now. But now my question is - other than the beginner box, what are some good materials to buy or places to start reading/looking on how to play or the game material in general?

I'll probably use this thread as a place to ask questions I come up with from reading said material so hopefully you all can help me out :D

Liberty's Edge

I'm completely new to the subject of tabletop RPGs. I just moved to the FL area and got started in D&D 4e. I bought the Red Box (beginner box) and have had a hard time finding anyone that wants to play D&D 4e. I've heard of Pathfinder and it seems to be a little more popular. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the differences between the 2 and what the lure is of PF rather than D&D 4e?

Is the game growing quickly or has it been growing quickly (don't know the history of the game)? Is it more combat oriented or roleplaying oriented or can it be both? Those types of general questions I'd love answered. As well as a more detailed response as to the key differences if possible.

Thanks!
