Appearance
Vashiro cuts a rather unassuming appearance in most situations. He is slight of build, standing less than 5'6" and weighing perhaps 140 lbs. His long hair turned pale grey before his 20th birthday, perhaps his only distinguishing feature. Beyond that, he is generally adorned in his mithral kikko armor, with its light weight and pale blue canvas exterior and hood easily presents him as a traveling craftsman or merchant. When not expecting trouble his two wakizashis are kept in a dual-sheath, then wrapped in silk, and either tucked behind or stored within his magical pack (along with his bow). He keeps the kukri he recovered from a brigand on his belt, and his hanbos lightly lashed together and used as a walking stick.
Background
The child of a lowly tinkerer and craftsman, Vashiro's life should have been a simple, uneventful one. He was raised as an apprentice to his father, and from an early age was especially adept at testing his father's devices thanks to his keen agility. So it was that when the local Daimyo summoned his father, Vashiro was brought along for the meeting. There had been an attempt on the Daimyo's pregnant wife's life, one that his mighty samurai that served the Daimyo had failed to stop. Luck had been on his side as he himself was coming to visit his unborn child, and thus all survived when he intervened. But he would not leave it to chance anymore.
Vashiro's father was commissioned to outfit the entire compound with a myriad of masterful traps, designed to wound, capture, and defeat the ninja that had tried to take the Daimyo's life. A dutiful servant, Vashiro's father began the process of recrafting entire buildings to meet the Daimyo's wishes. The Daimyo was impressed with how quickly the work progressed despite the small staff, and was intrigued how Vashiro served as a runner for the construction bringing items in and out of the trapped areas with grace and speed.
The construction took a couple years, but once complete, the Daimyo asked Vashiro's father to move into the compound and stay on staff permanently. He also offered to see his son, Vashiro, tested and trained as a warrior. Vashiro's father was honored, and willingly entered into the agreement. For his part, Vashiro was shocked by the opportunity. While he looked up to the samurai, he never even considered such a life a possibility.
As the years progressed, Vashiro took to the mechanics of his training quite well, excelling at feats of speed, agility, and swordplay. Yet, he bristled under the strict code of Bushido. He had never been raised within the code, and the mind of a trapmaker is one that works "outside the box", taking advantage of the environment of a given scenario, rather than approaching a situation using a strict set of rules. The Daimyo recognized this, yet also recognized the value such an agent - a skilled warrior, raised in the wilderlands of the realm, with a knack for the dark, quiet, and unexpected.
And so Vashiro was given his most important task, to protect the Daimyo's wayward son. A promising young samurai, he was headstrong, and needed a servant and agent who would protect him should he get into too much trouble. Vashiro spent the next several years keeping the daimyo's son out of trouble, engaging on noble quests for their honored lord. Yet all good thins cannot last...

Personality
Vashiro enjoys the simple pleasures of life - the laughter of stories exchanged by firelight, the consumption of a good meal, and the sharing of saki with an old friend. He sees little value in material wealth, preferring instead the reward granted from a deed well done and the gratitude of a friend. He is slow to speak, preferring to ponder his words carefully. Despite his quiet nature, he is both passionate and fiercely loyal, and will fight to the death to protect those dear to him.
