Background:
The story of Kieyanna's birth and childhood is an all too common one on the streets of Riddleport. Her mother was a priestess at the House of the Silken Veil, her father any one of the many dockhands, gamblers or street musicians who'd visit her. Despite what some would call a shameful upbringing, Kieyanna had a happy childhood running in the streets of Riddleport with her elder sisters; Elspeth and Tassara. Fair of face, but not especially attractive, Kieyanna decided against following her mother and sisters into the clergy. As a child she'd always had a thirst for knowledge, spending a lot of time in libraries, or spying on interesting looking people. She was apprenticed to a wizard for a while, but despite her dedication and desire to learn, she simply couldn't master the arcane technique. It was during her apprenticeship, after a long night of failing to learn a spell, that Kieyanna met Athena. The owl was simply sitting on the windowsill in her master's study, but it appeared to be watching her. Kieyanna thought nothing of it, and left the bird there. After all, it wasn't hurting anyone. The following morning, Kieyanna awoke fully able to cast not only the spell she'd failed at the previous night, but all those she'd given up on over the past few weeks. She also woke up to an owl that simply wouldn't leave her alone, day or night. Kieyanna quickly came to realise this owl was the source of her newfound abilities, and that wizardry had nothing to do with it. She soon abandoned her studies and went hunting for a job. After her abortive attempts at being a ranger and an apothecary, Kieyanna tried her hand at fortune telling, using the divinatory powers given to her by her spirit animal (for by now she had decided that Athena must be so). She realised quickly she was a natural, and began performing readings for many in the city. Unfortunately her old master found out about her undercutting his business, and had some thugs destroy her parlour. Seeing this as a sign to move on, Kieyanna left the city and began travelling on her own throughout Varisia. Eventually she found a job as the fortune teller for a trade caravan plying the route between Magnimar and Karlsgard. She's had this job for over six years now, and is currently resting at an inn near the Churlwood while the caravan master makes some repairs to the wagons after a particularly gruelling trek south.
Personality:
Kieyanna is usually an amiable and cheerful sort. After all, half of her job is convincing punters to part with their coin for a reading. She's very open her past, having no illusions about her childhood, but on the other hand seeing no shame in it. She's rarely seen away from Athena, and the bird often takes to perching on Kieyanna's shoulder. While she's not much of a fighter, Kieyanna can have a sharp tongue when she needs to, and isn't afraid to use it when things get ugly. Appearance:
Kieyanna is of fairly average height and build for a Varisian woman, with only her overly large ears giving away her Elven parentage. She displays these proudly, brushing her long blonde hair behind them every few minutes. Lithe and athletically built, most would describe her as attractive, but not stunning. On the road, Kieyanna wears heavy breeches and a hide tunic, which offer her ample protection from the dangers of the Varisian countryside. These she ornaments with drawings of the strange symbols she often sees in her dreams, and on the various ruins her caravan often travels past. |
