Party Role::
Front-Liner, Combat Maneuver Specialist

Description::
Before you stands the most unkempt dwarf, you may have ever seen. Volum’s hair has the look of a flame, reddish-orange and seeming to flow in about every direction. The dwarf is dressed in what seems like spiked-chained armor, the spiked-teeth seem to move in an almost saw-blade like fashion when he moves. The armor itself doesn’t look like it has been cleaned in some ages… much unlike the mirrored-shield that really stands out to you now. From just a glance, it is easy to see this well polished mithril heavy shield. Upon further inspection, you can see a small well-placed spike in the middle of the shield, which could cause some damage if you were hit. The shield itself seems very out of place on this wild unkempt looking dwarf, but it also seems to be his only personal possession, other than a small bag that hangs to his side.

Personality::
Volum’s personality is as wild as his appearance. Volum enjoys a challenge from recovering “Lost” items, as much as betting in a tavern over a drink(…..or five.… or ten…err…. let’s just say a lot of them.) When on a job, Volum is about professionalism and business first. He will complete it at all cost, unlike his appearance it is very important to him. Outspoken almost to a fault, it tends to get him in some trouble sometimes wanted and unwanted. He does have a heart of gold when it comes to those around him, not that he’d ever show it.

Recommendation letter for Volum:

Greetings Venture-Captain Jalden Krenshar,

I hope this letter finds you well. I know it’s been a while, since I’ve wrote and I will try to do so more often. Ever since you guided me through becoming a fine-upstanding member of the pathfinders, I find myself with less and less time. (You have the general sense of this being true. Although from your memory, it’s more likely to be his nightly visits to a tavern and very little case-work that keeps him busy.)

My intention/hope is that your received this letter before a particular dwarf arrives in your town. He will be easy to spot for an agent of your caliber! I hope my description will do you help, since I was unable to get his name. The dwarf has wild red hair which is almost similar to a flame. He’s in the rattiest spike armor you can possibly think of. The defining factor, which should set him apart from other Dwarven ruffians is a shining mirror-like mithril shield with a spike.

Watch that one on your approach, he can have a bit of the typical stubborn Dwarven personality. I’d highly recommend buying him an ale at the tavern, before seeking him out... (First thing that comes to mind when reading this part- Of course, Sal would suggests a tavern.) I’d like to recommend him into our little group. I know I’m not your favorite. I’m probably last on the list of being the “prefect” agent, but I think I did well by you. At first glance, I know you won’t like him or think he would be a good fit, but I ask you give him the same chance you gave me. Sure, he might cause some problems and be wanted in a few towns but who’s not these days?

Under his gruff personality and unkempt exterior, the dwarf has a heart of gold. When I first met him in our outpost(You can see tavern scribbled out.), I never thought he’d be good for the job I had. I decided to test his skills at a tavern down the road, which I don’t normally tend to frequent other than for business. After watching that one almost down a keg, I just happen to notice him challenging a few of the locals to games of skill. I decided to watch, since I couldn’t use my own odds in my favor, and it was a most peculiar sight.

I watched him bounce that shield of his, off of several walls, hit a bar glass and catch it each time he threw it. The dwarf never missed, not once. Thinking he might have some skill and I had a job, I decided it might be a good idea to “test” him. On ”accident” his shield may have been thrown a bit off course, by a dagger which was suddenly thrown into the wall. It might have just knocked the shield off its path enough to hit the largest person I’ve ever seen. You ever see a 300lb raging half orc? I have and it’s scary. The thing that surprised me the most, other than the dagger throw, is the red-haired dwarf actually caught the shield and won the damn bet.

The dwarf actually tried to calm the orc down a bit, which seemed to be pretty surprising by his looks. After a wild swing from the orc, you could almost watch that blue eyed dwarf grow with excitement. He knocked him down and out in two swing, one with the shield that dazed him and one with his fist. Craziest thing I had ever seen, I’ve watched that half-orc clear a bar or two with ease. Next thing I know, he walked over to me, shield not in hand and I was out till the next morning. I couldn’t even tell you what hit me but I would guess I got jumped by someone else in the bar once the fighting broke out.

I searched for him for a few days, but it seemed like he had already left town. I figured would be a good fit for the job I had. I had intended to send a group of rough individuals to handle the problem we last spoke about. (A group of bandits have been waylaying travelers between the two towns taking hostages and causing issues.) Apparently on the fourth day, he came back with the bandit leader and child in tow. Not realizing, the parents had already paid him to retrieve their child. After giving the guard his prisoner and the location of the other knocked out bandits, he returned the now smiling child to his parents.

This time he did actually leave before I could speak with him or thank him for his service. After speaking with the child’s parents, they explained to me that this red-haired, blue eyed dwarf was the funniest thing that their child had ever seen. He cursed all the way back to the camp, causing the child to learn some very colorful words, I’m told. But the amazing thing is that he reassured him all the way home and apparently told some funny jokes when the child started to cry. That’s why I decided I must quickly send you a letter.

I believe this dwarf should be given the same chance I had. If anyone can make him a pathfinder, I know it’s you Jalden.

Your friend,

Sal Dragonsworn, Pathfinder Field Agent and Expert Tavern Crawler

Special Considerations:

Brief Description/RP Sample::

Throwing his weapon at the wooden pillar, Volum watched it hit the beer glass shattering it with much ease. He was trained with a similar shield as a child, but it was nowhere near the quality of what he now owns. It has also won him quite a bit of gold with bar bets over the years. He never had to worry about his mug going empty was a nice perk of his childhood. He watched the shield knowing it would hit the wall and come back to his location. Except at that moment, a dagger flashed out of a cloak of a drunkard sitting in the corner causing it to shift course.

This is the same drunkard which has been watching him since he came into this part of town. Thinking to himself, Knew ye would be trouble and I ain’t got time or temper to deal with it. Valum shifted quickly to just catch ricocheting shield off the back of the half-orc’s head.

”Ye just hold it right there! Aye meant ye no harm!, Volum said in the stern voice. Volum could tell this half-orc had no intention on stopping, but he wanted to deal with the trouble maker fast. That man could be dangerous seeing how he threw a dagger.

Bowling through those in his path, the half-orc charged at his dwarven foe. Volum shouted as quick as he could,”I’m gonna give ye one more chance, ye damn fool!!” Seeing that the half-orc had not changed his mind, it gave Volum a great idea. A thought came to Volum and his eyes flashed, he could increase his threat range and hit the half-orc from where he stood. Knowing he could use the orc’s momentum to his advantage he could end this quickly and deal with the other threat.

Volum used his extra reach with his shield’s edge to bash the half-orc in the stomach. Defusing the charge and allowing him to step up on the stunned. Volum then struck the orc with the back of his hand to safely knock him out. In one swift motion, his eye flashed as he turned and Volum tossed his shield at the wall to the left.

Shaking his head the whole time. He turned to look at the cloaked figure, Volum hoped he could make this quick before the brawl in the bar got out of hand. He had to travel this evening. He had no intention of ending up in jail this evening, he had a job to do. Volum knew the shield would hit the back wall and about the time he got to his target, it would connect hopefully. He wasn’t sure if he could catch it if it at that point if it did connect. Seeing the dagger skills of this cloaked figure, Volum assumed the figure would dodge and he would have his shield on its return either way he was confident in his hand-to-hand skills.

A loud thud came from the back of the cloaked figure and he dropped. Volum almost cringed with horror when the cloak figure took the shield hit. He fell about as quickly as his shield did. Thinking to himself, I guess ye ain’t as special as I thought! Durn fool is just causing trouble and damn good at it. Aye got luck with that half-orc. Volum quickly checked to see if the figure was still breathing and rushed out the door before he could be caught in another fight. He knew the guards in this town would be here quickly and he had no intention of seeing them this night.

…..Traveling south on foot, Volum knew it was the best way to sneak up on his prey. At least he thought….. After two days of hard travel on foot, Volum knew the directions the kid’s parent had given him were wrong. Another day of back tracking, a lot of cussing and he finally caught the trail he thought might be them. Following the trail put him about a half-day from town.….

Volum watched the camp for a few hours trying to see the best way to approach. Seeing that the five bandits blunder about the camp, Volum knew he wasn’t in much danger, he just had to make sure the boy was safe. The boy was tied to the tree on the far side of the camp, randomly trying to chat up any bandit he could to pass the time.

Volum walked down to the camp in a slow stroll, so the bandit could see him coming. Volum spoke loudly and quickly, ”Gimme the boy and ye all can leave. Gimme trouble and I’ll bash ye head in. I ain’t in the mood to ask twice.” Volum heard the click of a crossbow, upon finishing his sentence. His eyes flashed and he caught the bolt with his open hand. ”“Ye all and dun it now!!”, Volum shouted with anger.

Volum knew they had one crossbow between the five of them and he was up in a tree. Only thing he had to fear is an axe or sword, if he dispatched this one. Volum threw his shield at his attacker, hoping it would get back to him in time.

Two of the other bandits watched the crazy dwarf toss his only defense away. One shouted, ”Your dead dwarf! Sylus now!!” As he yelled, a figure jumped out from behind Valum.

With a sudden move and flash in his eyes, Volum nearly dodged the attack almost like a crane. ”Ye think I didn’t see ye trying to sneaking up on me. There be goblins quieter than ye!” Striking Sylus with enough force to put him down. Volum heard a crack of a tree branch, followed by a soft thud, which he knew was his shield and the crossbow-man. Two down, 3 more to go, Volum thought.

Shield came whizzing back to Volums grasp, causing quite a startle from the two bandits he now faced. ”Ye leader is put down. I’ll give ye one more chance to give up. Otherwise, I’ll be digging a few graves instead of tyin ye all up. I aint much for using ropes at the moment.”, Volum coldly states.

(WIP-Still adding more. Just updating for story.)
