I don’t think you’re crazy, but I am worried. These IPs have been owned by very sophisticated companies for decades, and they’ve already had every opportunity to extract significant value from them.
It’s hard for me to imagine a materially better monetization path going forward without a very clear and realistic business model.
In the end, everything depends on the price — if they’re selling for a symbolic amount, that’s a different discussion. But if real money is involved, there needs to be a concrete plan that explains how future earnings justify the purchase cost.
Otherwise, it feels like paying for nostalgia rather than cash flow. I’d really want to understand what the business actually looks like post-acquisition. Without that, I’d be genuinely concerned.
