About Ulric Faolan
Ulric Faolan, the only child born of an Elven prince and a beautiful human woman who was a servant in the courts. Rather than lose his standing as nobility and face the scorn of mixing bloodlines Ulric's father refused to recognize his paternity. He shunned Ulric's mother and cut her off completly, forcing her to raise Ulric on her own and by whatever meager means she could manage. He was raised among humans, yet was always singled out for his distinct elven features and treated differently as a result. Bullied and pushed around by his peers, He learned quickly how to avoid conflict and move about unnoticed. His only source of comfort, Ulric's mother did the best she could to teach her son to see the good in people, but there was always the looming shadow of his father's abandonment of her love that darkend how he viewed the world. When Ulric was 14 his mother died due t o illness, leaving him to fend for himself. With no one to turn to and nowhere to go Ulric lived off the streets, stealing food to survive and using his ability to slip in and out of places unseen to find places to sleep. When he was caught trying to pocket the trinket of a particular noble's daughter he was given the choice to serve his time hanging from shackles in the dungeon or in the service of the captian of the guard. Ulric chose to avoid the dank, disease infested cells and became a spy, using his talents and skills to infiltrate enemy camps and obtain information. He was trained how to use the rapier and the crossbow by a grisled veteran who had sympathy for the boy. Ulric was grateful for the teaching, and the opportunity to breathe fresh air, yet he always remained suspicious of others, fearing that they would abandon him so he never truly opened up to anyone. Once his time was served he left the service and sought out work wherever he could find it, caring very little what it was or who it was for so long as it provided enough coin to get what he needed. Ulric found dungeoneering to be especially profitable being able to disarm traps and escape from dire situations. Through his endeavors Ulric learned that sometimes he required the assistance of others to accomplish his goals, and at that point he would join a group of adventurers, if their mission aligned with his, yet he was always wary of other peoples motives. Ulric comes and goes as he pleases, paying little heed to those in authority yet never doing anything that would draw attention to himself. He does not bow to any deity as he feels he has always been the author of his own destiny and does not need the help of some unseen being who may step in on a whim. Nothing in his life has ever been handed to him and he doesn't expect it to ever be. With no family who cares for him, and no homeland he has nothing to tie him down, and he prefers it that way. He is a stranger wherever he goes, a shadowy shape barely noticed out of the corner of ones eye, and he never stays in one place long enough to be remembered. Yet somewhere behind the shadowy visage shines the light of the spirit of his mother, a faint glimmer of hope that somewhere in the world good truly does triumph over evil.
