Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki speaks out for the first time after listening to the others for a while. Its voice is high, but dark. "You should also know numerous immaterial powers have joined with these creatures of flesh, and this battle is no longer a simple matter of fiends against mortals. You may seek to call their bluff, but it will be quite difficult to call mine." Persuasion Check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki looks perplexed at Liv's eye rolling. "I don't see what's so funny about this situation...but your questions are good ones. There is a monastery we could go to. It is magically warded, but if we could get through, then we could be safe behind the wards. The monks there know many things which could be helpful.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Ok, fog cloud could still be pretty helpful. We could obscure the whole back room with it, make the walls to the tiny hut exactly the same color as the surrounding ice, throw in a minor illusion or two around it, and perhaps stall to get demons AND devils fighting each other and then maybe we have enough time to get the helm of teleportation to work?
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Fog cloud might be helpful though. If we all pile into the tiny hut, and it's the exact same color as the walls of ice, and it's obscured by fog, and maybe a couple minor illusions, then it's possible we could get both demons and devils to fight each other and/or stall enough time to get teleportation?

@Olivia SAM's suggestion wasn't in the game play thread, it was his last post in this discussion. ^^ But I didn't look at the time-stamp, and thought it was more recent than it was, so that's on me. :/ What I'm trying to say is that, given the way this cave is set up it's running like a tower defense game, and more force spirits with their auto hitting happening at the beginning would soften the bad guys up. They're better than us at one thing which is consistently hitting. (Also, I'm out of area of effect stuff. :P) Also, having the healing spirits do their thing right after the heroes turn means that if you go down at the end of your turn, they heal you up just a few points, and then the baddies are incentivized to whack you again which puts you at a very high risk when you're knocked unconscious again, and then still lose your turn on top of it all. Example: Enziver has lost his turn this way several times--been healed back up, and then knocked back down by the lightning. All this to say, I'm not accusing anybody, but I strongly advocate for a force spirit next.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
The issue is that we're being damaged so much that getting one of us up just increases the risk of actually dying. Please let's summon a force spirit next. S.A.M. had said a force spirit, so that's what I thought we were going with as well, or I would have joined in on that.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
"Yungnar," Uki whispers, healing S.A.M. for Heal for:: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Humming the same martial tune as before, but with significantly less gusto, Uki tries to inspire S.A.M. to strike the armanite again. 1d8 towards whatever ability check, Attack roll, or saving throw S.A.M. chooses to use it for next. GM--reminding you that my reaction is for Whistle to cast shield next time I'm hit.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki's eyes fly open, revealing a nictitating eyelid as they do so. Hand shaking, they take their shard of glass to slice their arm again. The cloud of daggers goes up again, surrounding the armanite. damage roll: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 1) = 11 Then, Uki stands up, and runs off a bit. Whistle darts over to Uki, teeth bared. Uki focuses on Liv, willing her to destroy the cambion, and begins to sing a creepy yet encouraging tune with lots of punctuating chirps. Bardic Inspiration for Liv--1d8 to use on ability check, attack roll, or saving throw.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
The first attack strikes Uki, and they stagger. The second one bounces off an invisible shield of force energy, but the third hits home again, and Uki slowly slumps to the ground, unconscious. Whistles whines, and runs off a distance away. Death Save: 1d20 ⇒ 10 Horat, Uki only absorbed the first three attacks, and is at exactly zero HP. You'll need to look at the rest to figure out where you are.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
"Help would be appreciated," Uki calls, not exactly shouting, but definitely sounding strained. Hit by fire, they gasp and struggle to maintain the cloud of daggers, the cutting words failing to block the attacks. (1d8 equaled 1) They eye the three cambions clustering around them, trying to evaluate their condition and health. Cambion immediately to Tinuk's right medicine check: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Cambion immediately in front of Tinuk medicine check: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Cambion immediately in front of Uki medicine check: 1d20 ⇒ 16 Consave: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The cloud of daggers fades away as Uki grimaces in pain--their eyes tilt up, and ears pull back. With a grandiose sweep of their hands, and a flurry of white hair, Uki shrieks at the place where Tinuk sits, and he suddenly disappears. Deception check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
(If hit again, Uki will cast Shield as reaction)
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki nods to Whistle, and the fox's ears tilt back on her head, eyes glowing a hot blue as she focuses on a point about ten feet directly in front of her. An earsplitting clangor emanates from that point, striking the two cambions, and barely missing Horat. Shatter: Each creature in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Constitution saving throw. A creature takes 3d8 thunder damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Meanwhile, Uki looks with disgust at the cambion in front of them, and hisses "You foul excuse for a magical being, may all your endeavors be mere attempts. "Sinektomanerk!" Cutting Words: Minus 1d8 on the cambion's next ability check, damage or attack roll. Mindsliver: The target must make an Intelligence saving throw. Unless the saving throw is successful, the target takes 2d6 psychic damage, and the first time it makes a saving throw before the end of your next turn, it must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from the save. (If you could apply this towards the Con save it's going to make for shatter, that'd be cool [unless obviously, another team member attacks it for more damage.])
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
From somewhere inside the iridescent cape, Uki retrieves a sliver of glass. Muttering quietly, they take the sharp edge and slice through the skin on their forearm, allowing smoky blue fluid to drip down onto the ice. "S.A.M., step back!" Ready an action to cast cloud of daggers at the front of the five ft. choke point, allowing S.A.M. a bit of time to move.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki pulls out a qilaut and begins to drum an ominous sounding beat, unleashing a torrent of angry sounding words in the language of the Bear Children. Vicious Mockery at the demon in the chamber with us. It must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or take 1d4 psychic damage and have disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. The drumming then becomes less foreboding, and much more martial and stirring as Uki purrs words of encouragement to Horat. 1 d8 bardic inspiration added to ability check, attack or save.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Arcana check centaur: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Uki nods at S.A.M. "A mere distraction for our oncoming foes. I notice some of these creatures do not get along well together. Also..." She motions with her hands towards the exit and an area of earth begins to bubble and rise with sharp rocks and trenches. "...this should slow their onslaught." Mold Earth Cantrip As the wave of abominations marches on, Uki draws her hands in front of her face and whispers, "Umbra." Darkness begins clinging to the centaur and winged creature. Net of Shadows 1st level spell. DC 15 wisdom save.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki's brow furrows and their ears wiggle pensively. Then they take a bit of fleece from a pocket in their cape, and eat it. An especially evil and formidable looking bearded devil appears in the the first bend of the ice cave. However, it does not appear to be interested in an attack, and merely sits there glowering. Casting minor illusion cantrip.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki glows a little looking at the fox, obviously pleased to be asked. "Her name is..." Uki utters a few short whistles and chirps, and the fox looks up with great interest. Then Uki's brow furrows. "Perhaps her name in this plane should just be Whistle....and we mostly protect from natural disasters, wolves, more malicious spirits at times... Uki smirks a little. Assuming the correct prayers and incenses and sacrifices of course... They nod towards Tinuk. And that one is special. He is almost like one of us somehow... The smile fades. But these new foes you are fighting...I have never seen their like before...they are abominable.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Uki gives SAM a dazzling smile revealing multiple rows of very sharp teeth. "Of course you're forgiven," they purr. "Nothing is ever as it appears on first glance. But I think you have a saying 'the enemy of my enemy is not my enemy,' and I hate these ugly fiends. I have guarded Tinuk and his people against danger for many lifetimes, and this new threat is greater than any that has come before." The little white fox crawls into the area Uki hovers over and curls up underneath them peacefully. The corners of Uki's eyes tilt downward as they turn to Liv. "Earth and Wind may be quite effective of course, but if you're looking for the ability to strike several foes at once, a more powerful spirit's abilities may be in order.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
The spirit twitches its head to one side at SAM. "We share a common enemy,"it says. "My name is Uki. I am not one of those who allows themselves to be summoned, however I am interested in helping you if you wish it. For now. She walks toward Liv. If you wish to summon a spirit more effective against these intruders, I suggest you attempt to summon one of all four elements at once." Its head twitches back.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
The spirit half shrugs/half twitches their shoulders at Tinuk. "Well, yes. I like this plane, and you seem rather essential to it." "Tonrar," they say to the bearded devil, "Sinnektomanerk!" The bearded devil flinches. Mindsliver, Int save, DC 15, Unless the saving throw is successful, the target takes 2d6 psychic damage, and the first time it makes a saving throw before the end of your next turn, it must roll a d4 and subtract the number rolled from the save.
Female Spirit Bard 5/Monk 5
Countless points of light materialize from nothing and cluster into two dazzling shapes before they solidify into an odd blue outsider and a small white fox. The outsider glances around curiously. Small and slight, it hovers a foot over the ground, a long iridescent cape floating around it gently. It wears no other clothing, although its hide looks like better protection than most common armor. They appear covered in icy scales, and on their calves and forearms, it seems they have embedded little jewels in intricate shapes. The fox wears a circlet of silver around one of its ears, and looks at the outsider expectantly as if waiting for a command. "Sikrinaktok!" The outsider says in a clear, high voice. The cave glows a deep violet. Faerie fire on the hellhound and bearded devil. DC 15 dex saves for them or glow and have advantage on attacks rolls against them. |
