About Tymothy Smallwood

Tymothy Smallwood
Neutral Good Male Human Wizard (1st favored class)
Level 1

What the party knows about Tymothy:

Spoiler:

Tymothy and his family are newcomers to Kassen. His father moved them here a few years ago to work as blacksmith at Renet's Steel.

Tymothy is an apprentice to the eccentric local mage Holgast, which keeps Tym extremely busy. He rarely has time to play, and consequently doesn't know the other children and young adults of Kassen very well.

Recently there was an explosion at Holgast's tower that left the structure leaning slightly but very noticeably to the south. It's rumored that Tymothy was responsible, and that Holgast is looking for a new apprentice. What is known, though, is that Holgast is sending Tymothy out on the Quest of the Everflame, as a kind of graduation ceremony.

Background

Spoiler:

Your father works for Renet's Steel, rather than his previous apprentices leaving from poor working conditions he took them on as a Journeyman Smith (and inheritors of the business as they are comparatively young) out of a need to compete with the other town smith/metalworker Braggar Ironhame. Renet, with the help of your father, churns out work at a higher volume than Broggar but the dwarf is by far the better craftsman. The competition is fairly civil, however, as they both serve their niche.

Your mentor is Holgast, an elderly wizard of some skill, he took you in as an apprentice at your mothers request and to help with the fee you found yourself working and doing quite a bit of chores for the old man. He's been a frustrating teacher, his lessons are antiquated and erratic and you've spent more time doing chores and running errands than you have being taught about the Arcane. What was worse is that he often slept while you slaved away.

This lead to the accident. With such a lax teaching method you wound up doing what many of his past apprentices would do, you'd finish a chore early and teach yourself magic from his spell books while he was napping or busy elsewhere, sure, it was risky but you learned a lot more than his lessons taught you. This came to an end recently when some of your practicing backfired and the resulting backlash rocked Holgasts tower in it's foundations so much so that it now leans slightly to the south.

Holgast didn't kick you out, however, instead he came to the prompt conclusion that you were ready to get out of his hair and go out on your own. Your 'graduation' would be the Quest for the Everflame.
