About Ty Shadowsbane

Background:
Rescued as a babe from the fall of Drezen 4638 AR by an Elderly Tiefling Master of the Silver Crane discipline. I am the last known survivor of the line of Aasimars descended from Al'asadriel (creator of the Silver Crane discipline). During the fall of Drezen my family was specifically targeted by the demons, for what reason I do not know. My Mother and Father were killed in front of me. They put up a valiant struggle to protect their children. My father in his Gleaming armor and shining Great Sword DemonBreaker and my mother in her flowing white robes combating the evil scourge with nothing but her deceptively powerful fists. Demon after demon fell to them that day but there were too many! The last image I have of that day before falling unconscious from my wounds is that of my twin sister being flown away in the claws of a demon. Master Tariel was very doubtful that I would survive these grevious wounds and the hard ride escaping Drezen, but there was no choice. The city was overrun and the citizens were turning into bestial creatures and tearing each other apart. Luckily, praise Ragathiel after weeks at deaths door somehow I survived. A new leader emerged amongst the demons in 4692 AR, Storm King was an unknown to the world prior to his emergence, except to my family descended from Al'asadriel. We knew of the Storm King prior to his arrival at the World Wound. The details are unclear to me as it was a family secret passed on once a young Aasimar had matured enough to understand the ramifications and importance of this secret. My family was killed before I was told the details, but I do know that the Storm King had something to do with the disappearance of Al'asadriel.

Present day Fifth Mendevian Crusade (4713 AR – )

My true name is Taigan Asadriel. But for the past 65 years I have grown up in Lastwall using the name Ty Shadowsbane. Master Tariel thought it was best to hide my identity worried that the demons who had targeted my family would come after me if they learned of my location. He took me to Lastwall where I could learn from the Paladins who constantly fight to protect the nation from the undead and orc threats. More importantly, in LastWall there is a temple/monastery devoted to Al'asadriel and it is the headqurters/center of power for the Empyreal Guardians of the region. (starting age for Aasimar 68-108)

Lastwall has been the perfect training ground for me. A warrior nation vigilant against the orc and undead threats but away from the demons of the World Wound who it is feared would hunt me if my identity were revealed. There was never any doubt that Lastwall is my training ground, preparation before returning to the World Wound to join the crusade and at some point to reclaim my name.

Master Tariel recently died of old age. He has been a huge part of my life since the fall of Drezen. Growing up with and loving the Tiefling Tariel as a foster father I can look beyond prejudices associated with Tieflings and other similar races. I know that redemption and good is possible in all races.

Master Tariel an Awakened Blade and the Empyreal Guardians of Lastwall have trained me well. Preparing me for my return to the WorldWound training me to combat Evil and protect the weak as a Warder focusing on the Silver Crane discipline. “Disciples of the Silver Crane are men and women for whom the power of the celestial and divine flow into the arts of their blade. The Silver Crane is a goodly discipline and may only be learned and used by those who have a good alignment who are inspired by the teachings of good aligned outsiders. It focuses on strong strikes designed to combat evil, celestial insights, and combat-predictions to defeat foes and enable the initiator and his allies to endure the hardships of battle against the forces of evil. ”

I am a Zweihander Sentinel Warder. I chose to focus on the Greatsword as a tribute to my father.

Appearance Warder Angel-Kin:
Celestial blood runs strongly in Ty, he cannot be mistaken for anything other than an Aasimar. He is very Handsome, obviously very strong and graceful. Multicolored blue green and gold eyes. He keeps his hair Silver hair closely cropped for comfort under his helmet other than that his body is hairless. The sole flaw in his appearance is a diagonal Demon claw slash from his left shoulder to his right hip. This is his permanent reminder of the day when he lost his Mother , Father and twin Sister. He was self-conscious of this scar as a child but has outgrown that being surrounded by the warriors of LastWall where scars are marks of survival and courage. 6’6 245lbs He wears 4-mirror-armor, no shield, a greatsword strapped to his back. On his hands he wears crimson and gold cestus with Ragathiels holy symbol, a Sword crossed with Wing on the back of his fists.

Personality:
Driven by his past, he has trained hard under the weight of high expectations of the Empryeal Guardians. He is a young Aasimar sometimes prone to anger and recklessness when he is the only one impacted by his actions. “Ragathiel’s fury” some of his mentors have called it. But when others are impacted by his actions he is quite capable of reining in his recklessness and temper. He is big and strong and knows it and enjoys Intimidating those who try to take advantage of those weaker than themselves. He does not just rely on his size when it comes to putting those who deserve it in their place. His sharp intellect and rapier-like wit bruise egos. (Bruising Intellect trait) (he will be taking the feat Intimidating Prowess in the future). But this side of him is not seen often. He does not seek out opportunities to bully people, only when confronted by injustice unfairness or cruelty.

He has a recurring dream where a giant sized version of himself holds a narrow pass alone by himself against a horde of Demons (smiling as the bodies of the demons pile up around him) while hundreds innocents flee to safety.

Goals:

Join the Crusades. Pay my respects to my Family in the fallen city of Drezen by slaying the  marilith commander Zuhra Aponavicius. If possible find my Fathers greatsword DemonBreaker. Ultimate life goal: take part in destroying the Storm King and in the process hope to find answers to the fate of my great x5 grandfather the Solar Al'asadriel.

Plot hook:

Taigan thinks his twin sister died at the hands of the demons. But did she really? Why was his family specifically targeted at the Fall of Drezen?

God and Alignment:

Ragathiel the crusader god of righteous vengeance is the obvious choice for Taigans worship. “Those who have taken vows, especially those of duty or vengeance, hold Ragathiel as their ideal, and his agents sometimes assist those who have been grievously wronged and now seek righteous vengeance.”

Having grown up in Lastwall surrounded by Paladins, Taigan has a very healthy respect for their codes and vows. But some of these restrictions have always felt unnecessary or overly restrictive to him. It has always felt very clear to him. Do what is best for the many while respecting the rights of the individual. He will always seek to follow the Law whenever possible, but when it’s not... The shades of gray between order and freedom are not really a concern of his. His focus is in bringing more light into the world by protecting those who are less able than him.

Vows:

As an Empyreal Guardian he has taken the following oath: "In my own name, unsullied and bound to my virtue, and in the name of Al'asadriel, this I swear: with my blades I shall defend the innocent from those who threaten them wrongfully. With my eyes I shall look for evil and with my words and deeds seek to turn it back to good, or else destroy it. With my mercy and conviction I shall lead others into the light, and with my courage I shall hold back the shadow, until the day I die or Al'asadriel returns to release me."

Note that I have not included the Allegiance benefit in my character. I did not feel it was balanced. Exchanging one discipline for another is balanced. Exchanging it for a discipline and an Allegiance benefit did not seem balanced. However if you want to allow it for this character I certainly will not turn it down.

Allegiance Benefit: In addition to access to the Silver Crane discipline (exchanging a discipline of their choice), Empyreal Guardians enjoy a +2 sacred bonus to saving throws vs. spells and abilities that originate from evil-aligned sources, as well as a +2 morale bonus on saving throws vs. mind-affectingspells and abilities.

Role:
Mythic Guardian, Tank, focusing on increasing size reach and AAOs, will be taking Mythic Retributive Reach at first opportunity,will gain size and reach through Egoist power minor metamorphis, at 7th level will take Cornugon Smash for debuffing enemies

Defensive Focus (Ex)

At 1st level, the defensive prowess of the warder is second to none, allowing her to focus her actions purely on defending himself and her allies in ways that cannot be replicated. The warder gains the Combat Reflexes feat as a bonus feat, using her Intelligence modifier in place of her Dexterity modifier to determine the number of additional attacks of opportunity she may make each round.

When recovering maneuvers as a full round action, the warder sets up a defensive perimeter around himself to defend her allies, increasing her threatened area by 5 ft. for every 5 initiator levels she possesses. Until the beginning of her next turn, she may make attacks of opportunity against any opponent in this threatened area that provokes attacks of opportunity. She may move as part of these attacks of opportunity, provided her total movement before her next turn does not exceed her speed (his movement provokes attacks of opportunity as normal). Additionally, while using defensive focus, the warder adds her Intelligence modifier plus her class level to her CMD for the purposes of defending against enemies trying to use the Acrobatics skill to prevent her from getting attacks of opportunity against them.

At 10th level, her defensive focus improves further, causing the ground within her melee reach to be treated as if it were difficult terrain, hampering her foes' movement around him. If a foe tries to move through a space within her reach, the movement through those squares costs double (x2). Additionally, while using her defensive focus to make an attack of opportunity, her movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Aegis (Ex)

At 1st level, the warder's defensive prowess extends to those who choose to stay near to him. Allies who are within 10 ft. of the warder's position gain a +1 morale bonus to Armor Class and to Will saves under the warder's defensive aegis, her presence bolstering and shepherding the defenses of her allies. This bonus improves to +2 at 5th level (+3 at 9th level, +4 at 13th level, and +5 at 17th level). The warder does not receive this bonus, but may receive the benefits of this ability from another warder. If the ally cannot see or hear the warder, then the ally does not gain the benefits of this ability (such as if the warder is concealed or invisible).

At 6th level, her aegis' range increases its effective area, growing to a 20 ft. radius. At 12th level, this increases again to 30 ft..

Zweihander Training

At 1st level, when wielding a two-handed weapon or a one-handed weapon in both hands, the warder gains a shield bonus to his armor class equal to his aegis class feature bonus.

Disciplines

The warder gains access to the Scarlet Throne discipline and loses access to Broken Blade. Bluff is no longer a class skill; Sense Motive is now a class skill.

Armament Shield (Ex)

When wielding a one-handed weapon in two hands or a two-handed weapon, the weapon is treated as a light shield for the purposes of performing a shield bash attack on an opponent. The warder smashes with the butt of a spear-haft, the pommel of a greatsword, or the broadside of her axe. All are essentially the same and are treated as light shields for the purposes of shield- bash attacks or martial maneuvers to be used with a weapon of this type (such as Iron Tortoise maneuvers that require a shield to function).

Aegis
Astral Repair (Ps)

An aegis is capable of repairing mundane items, restoring 2 hit points of damage to the touched item as a standard action usable at will. If the object has the broken condition, this condition is removed if the object is restored to at least half its original hit points. All of the pieces of an object must be present for this ability to function. This ability has no effect on objects that have been warped or otherwise transmuted, but it can still repair damage done to such items.

Form Astral Suit (Su)

Every aegis learns to draw forth ectoplasm and form an astral suit around their form. The aegis can select from three different types when forming his astral suit— skin, armor, or juggernaut. An aegis is always considered to be proficient with his astral suit, even if he does not have the appropriate armor proficiency. The amount of time forming this astral suit takes depends on the type of suit being formed. Different astral suit forms grant different free customizations. These free customizations never count against the aegis's total number of customization points spent on his astral suit.

The aegis chooses the appearance of his astral suit, although its shape must reflect the selections the aegis has chosen: astral skin would cover the aegis like a psychoactive skin, astral juggernaut would appear to cover the aegis like plate armor, etc.
