Tural aims three magic missiles out into the water designed to hit fish from underneath them and knock them into the air. Given time, he follows the volley up with a second round of three missiles in the same manner. "Aim underneath the fish and utilize the force of the missile to stun them and knock them up. One of the most significant features of such a spell is that it never misses...well, as long as you can see what you're aiming for that is!"

occultism: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Hot dice since we started fishing. Might have found Tural's hobby when he isn't reading books.

Tural takes a moment to evaluate the magical properties of the fishing bait. "Excuse me, but I most protest a disqualification. Firstly, as evidenced by the other contestants and responses of the audience, finding new ways to fish in exciting ways is heavily encouraged. Additionally, we, the party, are mostly unharmed. Our leshy friend, Conall, may object to such a statement, so his opinion would be needed as well."

Tural then holds up the magical bait, "If you have someone experienced in magical phenomenon, you can confirm my second point. This spell was cast correctly and should be harmless. Even more exciting, the spell appears to be a new one in Golarion. Unfortunately, new spells tend to suffer from malfunctions because their...process I suppose is the best word for it, has not been imprinted upon the world fully. If you are familiar with the Magaambyan soil and path theory, it will take a few casts for it to fully take hold."

Tural then stands next to Demed, "Regardless, there was no malice on Demed's account and he had no way to expect this to happen. We all try to fish in exciting ways and cannot possibly forsee the outcome of all our actions ahead of time."

Finally, Tural gestures towards Conall, "Conall, do you have anything you'd like to add as the most injured by such an event?"

The magic missiles form at the end of Tural's fingertips, but at the last magical phrase, he reclaims the spell. Instead of finishing the spell, Tural holds his Grimiliar in front of him as Buford launches a stream of water from his hand, "New entry: The crab-creatures no longer interest me; however, Buford's magic does." he says as he quickly rushes over to stand by Buford, "Please try to hold that spell for as long as possible. As you can see, the runes that formed around your hands are quite different than the ones I can create. I suspect this is likely due to the nature of your magic being fundamentally different than mine despite coming from the same theorized source." Tural says, gesturing at the ring of runes around Buford's hand. "Please give me a moment to copy down what you created."

With only one crab left, Tural unleashes a volley of missiles. "This experiment has clearly reached its conclusion. Let's get this over with quickly and move on to the next event."

Tural is quite surprised by this outcome, "It seems like low-grade insanity is the correct conclusion. There is little else to explain why these creatures would attack a much larger group."

Tural then begins casting a spell, "New experiment: Introduce a rock as a new natural predator. Will this instill fear in the creatures due to surprise?"

Casting Spirit Object on a rock. The rock sprouts peg legs made of stone and wabbles over to Octagon before attempting to fall on it.

Tural investigates the magical phenomenon with great interest!
arcana: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Realizing what is happening, Tural begins documenting the magical event in his Grimiliar, "New entry! Magical fish bait that charms fish, how quaint. Oddly, it appears that the magic is unstable. It's possible that such a spell with these effects does not yet exist and that the soil and path theory of magic is correct. This new spell is forcing itself into the world by eroding the rules of reality. Eventually, this magic may stabilize, but it may take many castings of the effect for the spell to take hold in the world. Alternatively, the effect may simply be too powerful for such simple creatures, driving them to a low level of insanity. I will record any further observations as I become aware of them."

I'm going to go with lore fishing; I don't think academia really applies, but I figured I'd try it.

Tural tries to recall other instances of when fish gather together in large groups, "Some fish avoid predators by forming schools designed to appear as one larger fish while confusing and distracting their predator. If we imitate one of their predators, they may school together for our nets."

Examples:
Deception to distract other competitors
Performance to impress the crowd
Crafting to build elaborate traps
Survival/Fishing Lore for using bait/lures
Stealth to grab fish w/o disturbing water
Other skills are possible as long as you can explain what you're doing.

Tural recalls his knowledge studying the mating patterns of fish and attempts to apply this knowledge to catch a good haul, "If I remember correctly, fish typically return to their hatching grounds to lay their own eggs. If we can determine where that is, likely upstream, we can cut them off and let them catch themselves in our nets."

lore academia?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Otherwise, lore fishing from my Grimiliar at +5 instead for a total of 23.

Tural looks around, "If we combine some nearby resources, we should be able to make a one-way bait trap. Fish swim in to eat the bait but can't get back out. This is usually accomplished by placing spikes that face inward in a concave fashion."

Looking around, Tural identifies two locations, "My grimiliar states that a good spot would be there, but this place here has water, so it's likely as good as any other. I believe fish...live in water? That sounds right."

I'll pass a skill check eventually.

Tural first responds to Buford, "I'm so glad you asked! You see, my mentor recently traveled to Irrisen and met with an old witch named Baba Yaga. She gave him this grimoire, but he also thought the pages were blank. When he returned, he lent me the book to see if I could figure out what it was. Almost immediately, the book began speaking to me, not out loud, but with writing only I could see. It helps me study magic and provides various tidbits of lore when I need them." he then snaps his fingers and causes three mugs on the table to grow tiny legs and start dancing for a moment, "Now I can do that and, after further study, I realized that this grimoire is also a kind of unique familiar. "Grimiliar" is a portmanteau of grimoire and familiar; a word of my design."

After hearing about the fishing competition, Tural looks up, "Last I heard, the lake was empty due to magical anomalies. Tell me more about the fish you've caught here." Tural says before looking back down at his book, "What do you mean you lied to me as a joke? This is why I don't trust you and have to run my own experiments."

Tural pulls it back after Conall finishes, "Thanks! I know a few jokes myself, though my personal favorite goes like this: I lost my twenty-five percent of my roof in the last storm...oof." Tural smiles brightly as he enjoys his own joke a bit before returning to read his blank pages.

Tural nods, "Got it, no problem! Let me know if you want answers, and keep in mind that I never utilize any process of experimentation that involves intentional or consequential harm to any subjects." with that, he returns to reading his blank book.

When the leshy enters and makes a statement, Tural looks up again, "Please tell me you're not bringing incendiary effects to this group." he says as he holds his book behind him, "My Grimiliar is very valuable and also intensely flammable, please be careful around it." a flash of recognition appears on his face, "Wait, are you a leshy? I highly doubt you are aligned with incendiary effects, though it tends to exist inside the same tradition of magic that animates you." he says with a slight pause, "Although, I will admit, my experience with natural magic is quite limited, and I usually ask my Grimilar for data on the matter. Is there any chance you have an affinity with natural magic? No? Do you mind placing one of your limbs carefully on this page here in my Grimilar?" Tural says as he opens the book from one blank page to a different one and pushes it towards Connall.

Tural begins sketching the mark that appears on the tentacle, "Interesting. You do know this is an Eidolon, right? I'm sure you do, and you're right, they are not really "creatures" as we usually think of. Rather, they are raw essence given form in the shape of a creature that is bonded to a particular person of magical talent, the "summoner," which would be you." Tural says, pointing with his pen.

Tural then consults his blank book, "I believe that this is either a beast type made of life essence or a construct made of arcane essence. The exact nature is a bit hard to pin down just by looking at it, though I suppose you could try asking it. I would, but I don't speak Mwangi...hmm, now that I think about it, tentacles are often prevalent in occult eidolons as well. Truly a mystery worth solving." Tural says as he consults his book once again, "We don't have a mission, right? Let me run some tests on Ecthelion, and I'll be sure to find out what type it is."

Rather than focusing on the meal, a male half-elf with nearly a dozen scrolls sticking out of his backpack sits at the table, appearing to read a book. The book is large, a veritable tome, and extravagantly decorated with gold leafing on its black cover and spine. Oddly, the pages appear blank, but the half-elf seems totally consumed by starting at it.

Upon seeing the scroll appear, "Is that a scroll? What spell is on it? Can I see it?" he says quickly as he pulls out a pen and parchment.

His attention is then grabbed by the strange octopus-like creature, "Oh! You must be a summoner! Can I get a sketch of the symbol that connects you? Tell me, how does it feel to use your magic? I have a theory that the way you become better at magic involves siphoning off energy from the lower degree access points inside your body. Right now is the most peculiar point in my theory because you have no excess energy to direct to the eidolon...yet it remains here on this plane. I have yet to discover an explanation for where the energy comes from."

He then looks back down at his book for a moment, "Yes, yes, I know you can tell me all the greatest secrets of magic, but I need to learn and document them for science."
