No worries - I didn't get my backstory started because my friends introduced me to Minecraft on Friday night and I spen the weekend building a castle...and digging a moat...and filling the moat with water...and building a lake house...and two bridges to span the moat...and an automated gate...and a secret underground tunnel to a hidden lagoon.

Sounds good - I'll throw the backstory up tomorrow.

You are indeed right - my Air should only be 2 but it won't let me edit for some reason.

As the campaign progresses I'll be focusing pretty heavily on the Air ring. The reason my stats fell the way they did at start was so I could take a hit and also be decent at iaijutsu dueling.

As experience flows I'll probably make Air 3 my first priority.

I'm fine with the Isawa treating me like crap - that's how I had anticipated it basically. I expect he'll find himself much more welcome among the Shiba.

Shiba Bushi School Rank 1

Technique:

RANK 1: THE WAY OF THE PHOENIX
Shiba bushi move through battle as the Void moves through all the elements. When spending a Void Point to gain +1k1 on a roll, you may choose to spend 2 Void Points (to gain +2k2) on the roll instead. You may Guard as a Free Action; however, if you do so, your target only adds +5 to his Armor TN instead of +10.

Advantages:

Advantages:
Large

Disadvantages:
Driven, Black Sheep, Social Disadvantage, Compulsion 1 (shows of martial prowess)

Combat Stats:

Combat stats:

Bisento:
To hit - 6k3
Damage - 6k3

Katana:
To hit – 4k3
Damage – 5k2

Wakizashi:
To hit – 6k3
Damage – 4k2

[b]Armor/[b]
Light armor (+5 TN), (Reduction 3)

ATN: (2*5) + 5 + 5 = 20

Initiative 3k2 (+5 during first round of skirmish while using bisento)

By tomorrow? Start playing this weekend!

Lol sorry - very anxious to start.

If it's in the interest of the party I can also play a courtier instead of a bushi.

Maybe a Lion, Phoenix or a Crane?

No courtier skills here. I went heavy into polearms and iaijutsu so I didn't have much leftover.

Also, I wouldn't expect him to keep too much peace. He's a calm guy, but he's not opposed to a fight. Not your typical Phoenix for sure.

Where would you like us to post our characters?

Be happy I'm your friend... and that I never find out xD

Be careful what you insinuate - a Shiba bushi rolling with +2k2 on the Focus roll can be a very scary thing = )

I couldn't find anything on the Heroes website about limiting disadvantage experience gain, so I presently have 12 points of disadvantage. I hope this is ok. Assuming it is, I will post the character sheet.

I've created a bisento wielding Isawa bushi (Shiba school) who is basically a social pariah since he didn't become a shugenja. he feels determined to prove his worth to his family through his martial prowess and, as a result, it is almost impossible for him to refuse an iaijutsu duel.

I think I'm leaning towards bushi/scholar moreso than bushi/courtier.

I'm thinking an Isawa bushi from the Shiba school who has a strained relationship with his family (black sheep - HOW YOU NO GO TO SHUGENJA SCHOOL!?!?!).

I'm trying to decide on how I want to build him at the moment. I'm thinking about having him specialize in polearms but am also torn about having him pick up some iaijutsu too. So it's a three-way race between kenjutsu, iaijutsu and polearms.

I was seriously considering Lion, but I feel like they are a little too militaristic for me.

I'm still interested.

I would lean towards a Phoenix or Lion bushi probably. Maaaaaybe a courtier. But probably a bushi.

I added my backstory to my profile as well. I can add more if necessary but it is late and I wanted to get something down.

What's the downward limit on age - since I've billed him as something of a prodigy I'd like him to be as young as feasible without being out of place.

Character sheet for Shiba Saito - I can get the backstory up tomorrow.

Is 24 old enough? I know you said older but I'm not really familiar with where age falls in Rokugan.

I'll be able to get something up tonight or tomorrow (probably tomorrow).

The mechanics are either done or almost done (I'll have to check my char gen).

What are you looking for in the way of backstory?

I've got the mechanics finished (I think - I've asked for advice on another site or two) and just need to write up whatever you want in the way of back story.

Should sheets be posted here?

I'm interested.

Never done L5R 4e before but am currently trying to get in on another PbP campaign (also L5R 4e). Divided time shouldn't be an issue for me.

PbP experience in the past is nWoD, D&D 4E and some D&D 3.5.

Do you know if it will focus more on court or more on combat?

What about spells that deal with long distance communication?

I don't want you to give too much away, but is there any benefit for being able to relay information back to court quickly or to learn about the goings on of court from afar?

So if I'm making a shugenja (which I think I am unless too many others do) should I take a number of damage spells? The wounds seem to be fairly minor and I'm wondering how I should balance buffing/debuffing and roleplay utility spells versus direct damage spells.

Whatever time we decide on I'll just need some sort of reference to where I can read about it.

If it isn't covered in the Clan Wars I'm limited to the knowledge present in the Core Rules, Great Clans and the wiki.

Also - character guidelines? Mechanically at least? I'm chomping at the bit to get started!

I have no preference between the two.

I'm thinking either a Crane Asahina shugenja, a Fox kitsune shugenja who studied at the Isawa school or an Isawa courtier (possibly a Doji courtier as well, depending on creation/group make up).

Narrative roleplaying works for me - I've played a little bit of nWoD so that part will be somewhat similar.

I tend to favor the Crane, Phoenix and Dragon - so I'd likely wind up playing one of those.

I'd also probably avoid the bushi for my first game and would probably go with a shugenja or a courtier.

Hey - I'm new to the site and new to Lot5R rpg in general but I'm looking for a pbp to get started with.

If you're not terrified of having a wholly new player I'd be happy to play provided you guys can help me struggle through learning a new game. My Lot5R knowledge consists of reading the first 6 of the 7 Clan War novels (though book 7 is on my shelf atm...) and wiking a bit.

For what it's worth I'd be most interested in the first pair.
