Trey was born 43 years ago to an elf mother and a human father. He spent many of his early years in and around the Azure district of Sasserine; he grew up in a small but comfortable apartment with his parents and younger brother. Trey’s father Athalus was a deckhand on the merchant ship Windlust – Athalus’s quick wit and knack for sailing held great promise for future promotions on the ship. Trey’s mother Melina spent as much time as she could afford (during the free time from her tedious job as caretaker for the children of Lord Keltar Islaran) raising Trey and his brother Telan while Athalus was at sea. However, the frequent absence of both parents offered Trey and Telan many chances to explore the city of Sasserine.
When Trey was a mere 17 years old (still quite young for a half-elf), his father allowed him to join on the last trip that Windlust was to make for the season. A bountiful harvest meant much freight to carry – and lots of work for young energetic lads. Needless to say, Trey was more than pleased to join his father on an adventure at sea. A fortnight into their voyage, pirate ship attacked Windlust , brutally slaughtering most of the crew and stealing the ship’s valuable cargo. Trey was witness to his father’s murder that day; Athalus was attempting to prevent one of his shipmates from falling into the ocean – a pirate’s dagger in his back was his reward.
Trey was one of the few who were not killed. He was not viewed as a threat to the pirates. He was forced to become a kitchen scullion on the pirate ship Ratfang. Trey spent the next fifteen years in forced labor on Ratfang – biding his time until he would be able to escape the pirates. Once, a brutal pirate, impatient to wait for his food, held Trey’s face onto a burning skillet for several minutes. Trey has since carried the hideous burden of an enormous scar covering almost the entire left side of his face.
When Trey was 32 years old he spotted a moment of freedom – and jumped off the side of Ratfang when they were near a shore. He swam over a mile and a half to safety. Over the next several years Trey worked his way home as a deckhand himself on various vessels. Finally when he was nearing 37 years old (20 years since he had last seen his home) he finally arrived in Sasserine – only to see that his mother and brother had long since left his childhood home. Trey has spent his working life for the past 5 years working as a deckhand for any vessel that will hire him – spending all of his free time and money learning the trade of a swashbuckler – hoping someday to find his mother and brother, and even more to exact revenge on the pirates of Ratfang who destroyed his life.
