About Tork Hydra-Slayer

Living by the code of the forest is the only life Tork has ever known, and the more he sees of the world beyond the treeline, the happier he is to leave city folk to themselves. Tork is fiercely independent, he is fiercely loyal, and he thinks he is a lot smarter than most people. He's joining the Verdant Wheel because their work is too important to leave it to amateurs.

Tork grew up in a nomadic community of refugees from the constant fighting in the Eye of Dread and the Broken Lands. They make their forests of the Shudderwood their home. Even amid corrupted fey and demon-touched beasts, the band managed to protect themselves and subsist in the forest. The band's matriarch, a Halfling druid named Berellyn Gorse, nurtured Tork's gifts for hunting and tracking and tried her best to make him feel like a part of the family. Tork grew up knowing few orcs other than a few cousins in the same band. He knows his namesake is a grandfather who slew a hydra, but all Tork knows of Orcish history, language, and culture came from traders and caravans.

While his adoptive tribe taught peace and cooperation above all else, Tork recognized that their peace depended on a certain capacity for force, and he admired the crusaders who kept the peace in the Broken Lands. In particular, he gives much credit to a Reclaimer champion named Eglamour, who helped the young Tork to channel his natural competitiveness into a drive to better himself.

He might have remained in the Shudderwood all his life, but Tork's pride earned him too many grudges for the small band. Worse, he never mastered the ability to accept the injustices of a refugee's life. When his band was cheated or threatened by more powerful forces, Tork was always the first to demand satisfaction and the last to forgive. Shortly after his twentieth birthday, he thanked Berellyn for all the kindness she had shown him, then joined the first trade caravan heading south that would take on an Orc.

Following a rumor about the Verdant Wheel and their dream of purifying the Shudderwood, he headed for Absalom and the Pathfinder Society.
