2. The Main characters, being evil, seem to readily accept any new character that wishes to join them. Seems like this would be an easy group to infiltrate (if you were so inclined).

Most of it is basically allowing the use of out of character knowledge to keep the game running smoothly. (Keeping the game going is very important with a group as large as ours!) Once it is determined that so-n-so is actually somebody's new character, suspicions are dropped and play resumes. NPCs, on the other hand, are usually treated with much distrust if not attacked outright.

Going into more detail...Topaz only has a Cha of like, 8, right Chris?

We've already adjudicated that she's beautiful (imagine horns and tail in lieu of pregnant tummy), but her attitude in general is soo bad that it cancels out!

Then again, some guys like the abusive Dominatrix shtick...

So Chris, what you are telling me is that you aren't the littlest bit kinky in real-life, never venturing into anything remotely S&M in the real-world but that playing this character allows you to do things that you might want to do deep down?

Have you ever felt that playing this character, or simulating the things you do with this character, might somehow make you curious...

My character is very much into the giving of pain.

Of course we do... Speaking for myself, if I didn't have such a wonderful creative outlet amongst others of my kind, I'd probably be a white-collar criminal... LOL!

Ooh, you're actually asking me to comment on this? ;-)

Actually in some ways playing evil characters can be therapeutic... it gives you a chance to do things that you would never do in real life.

Case in point, IRL I am a happily married soon-to-be mom; in other words about as whitebread ordinary as you can get in most ways (D&D aside). However my current character, Topaz, is a Tiefling fighter progressing into half-fiend. What Marc's synopsi often leave out is that during party downtime (for leveling and other admin work) Topaz earns her gold as a *ahem* "Lady of the Night" specializing in S&M clientel. While most of this is not actually roll-played at the table... enough is covered for Topaz to have quite a reputation indeed. ;-)

(*DM note: The cat was yowling over the scattered bones and entrails of its former master, since Sizul, Rahl and even several non-monster player characters took part in the mutilation and cannibalization of the Halfling mage who tormented them…there were ‘hobbit hoagies’ for dinner that night.)

You realize that I personally will never be able to walk into our local Hobbit Hoagie sandwich shop with a straight face ever again.

*shrugs* I had a hard time feeling anything either, especially considering this happened on a night I couldn't attend. I didn't really have much time to get attached to her anyway.

Now if Marc kills off my current character (again) when I'm not around to defend her...

I'll be posting it by individual game session, starting from September 2004 to the current session that I run tonight! We're barely into the fourth module in the series and we've run for over a year!

By the way, I just have to point out that this game started in September 2003, not '04. Methinks the DM is so excited to show us off that he fumbled his dates a little.
