Tommy attempts to put the man at ease. "Nothing to worry about here".
I just live down below, and heard some commotion up here". "Since yours was the only door with signs of life, thought I'd pop my head in and see if everything was OK".

"Butcher's the name" Tommy explains, putting out his hand for shaking.

Tommy will try to maneuverer himself so that he can see into the room behind the man through the chained door.

"Everything is OK...right"?

is tommy still in the running for this game?

Tommy slowly approaches the door with the glow emitting from around the edges. He raises his hand to knock, then lowers it just as quickly, and decides instead to place his ear close to the door, and try to determine if any sounds are coming from the room beyond.

Hmm. That's strange these guys seem to have lights...(Try to determine if this is steady light or the flicker of fire).

He almost turns around and returns to his original plan; This was stupid, he didn't even have a weapon, maybe he should go down stairs and try to find something to defend himself with...no...he was just amped up from the game, and the strangeness of the outage. Surely everything was OK.

He then raised his hand to knock on the door.

This action could be changed depending on what he hears from beyond the door

Tommy was beginning to rise from his chair in celebration when the tube died. No! He hollered at the top of his lungs, Not now! Tommy leaped up from his dilapidated recliner, sending popcorn flying, and knocking his freshly opened beer onto the floor. Seeing the flashing light of his iPhone blinking, he fumbled to power it up, and switch on the flashlight app.

He stumbled to the hall closet more than a little buzzed, as the sounds from upstairs slowly penetrated hid alcohol and adrennelin soaked mind. Clumsily pulling on his heavy winter coat, and wrapping his scarf about his neck, he rushed from his apartment, his only thoughts on making to Issac's Sports Hut on the corner...he had to know what happened in the game.

Frantically pushing the elevator down button, it took a minute to realize the power was out. Slapping his head he headed towards the stairway, and was halfway down, when his conscious began to berate him. What if somebody was it trouble? He'd been there himself, an somebody had helped him out.

Darn it. With a resigned groan Tommy turned and headed towards the commotion upstairs. Why can't I just mind my own business like everybody else in this city.

Here is the profile I made for a character in another game (Thanks Seeker of S&L). Maybe I could modify him a bit, if you think he'd fit into what you have in mind for the game.

EDIT: I swear I did a background for him somewhere. I'll have to search for it, but basically grew up on a reservation...studied under his great grandfather...got older and rebelled; Drugs/alcohol...ended up doing some hard time...had a way with animals...got a job working for a Veterinarian in Kentucky, also doing farm work...fell in love with the bosses daughter...world ended etc. I'll look it up and post it when I find it, if this background works. If not give me a few clues and I'll come up with something.

OOC: Here are Shane's Virtue: Justice and Vice: Pride. You can't say what he says, isn't true. Even though he isn't so diplomatic at saying it. He's a straight shooter. Calls 'em like he sees 'em! Oh!... I just went to Tommy's Profile for the first time to see if he had any Virtues and Vices listed. But didn't find any. An saw the "Half Blood American Indian" info. there. I hadn't realized that before in or out of game. Any how, the Chiefs and Indians thing was just a figure of speech. An we all know what is the #1 Bumper crop grow in the backwoods of Kentucky, right!

27 is a little old to be chasing after that young college tail. I wonder how Sara and John feel about the hired help pursuing and catching their little Princess.;-)

Good Gaming,
Marc

They're on there in the profile...Hope and Lust. And for the record, no I don't believe you're right. It's a matter of opinion and there is no right or wrong...however I must say that one of the goals of any role playing game is to get a 'group' of players to play together and learn as a team to accomplish things, and quite frankly you've done nothing but try to do things on your own, instead of trying to work with the party. The trip to get your girlfriend is a great role playing opportunity, and good for the DM to run, so I can't understand why you're fighting it so hard...but if you're determined to go it on your own I'm tired of trying to work with you...which means the game will probably die, because we're the only frequent posters. Too bad.

Shane answered him saying. "Yes, I think would be wise. There's a 100 perchent chance that someone else is going to screw things up for starters. With me having to pay the price. I could of easily evaded that Mob of Thugs we came up against in town, with just riding in the opposite direction on my Mt. Bike. If I hadn't tried to defend the Haywagon. I wouldn't be in the shape I'm in. Once I get back up to where my rig is hidden in the woods, near your Father-in-laws place. I will beable to get my hands on my equipment. So I'll beable to asure something like this won't be happening to me anytime soon. You can bet on that".

Overhearing Shane's answer Tommy responds heatedly. "Of course your right a#$hole". "You should have been able to run away". "From the looks of your fighting skill, that is your best course of action". "But remember this...had we not taken the haywagon into town, that baby sleeping over there wouldn't have all those diapers, and all that formula". "We wouldn't have those cases of bottled water, or those boxes of canned goods". "All those tools...somebody else would have those".

"Do you think we could sneak into town fifty times and carry all that stuff away"? "All those stores would be completely looted before we made two trips". "Taking the wagon into town was a risk, but if we hadn't taken it we would have no supplies". "So quit thinking about your own little self contained world, and think about somebody else for a while". "Isn't that why you joined the military in the first place...to help others".

"And now you're being selfish about this trip". "What if something happens to you". "Your girl would have no idea, and if she decides she wants to come down here to safety she'll never know because your're too hard headed to see the facts". "Well OK go off on your own, but do your girl a favor, and leave her name and address here, so if we find your corpse spread out somewhere, some of us can at least get word to her".

And with a final curse under his breath Tommy whirls and leaves the room.

Tommy normally has trouble expressing himself, but he does make a couple of good points.

"Pops, we could really use your expertise around the farm with the power off and all". "I know you've got more experience than all of us put together".

Once the group is together, hopefully McCoy as well, he will bring the group together for a speech. He will meet with McCoy first(If he comes along) and have him do the speaking as the senior member of the family, but basically wants to discuss their future plans both long term, and short term. It's time to plan for the possibility that things might be like this for a while, and we need to plan what to do.

Well we still need to go get Grandpa, otherwise I'd suggest we stay around here and prepare the farm...Well...Firewood...etc. It's probably not a bad idea to start contacting the other local farms as well. When the looters run out of stuff in town they will get desperate and hungry, and we need to be able to defend ourselves. I'd also like to try to trade something for a cow...The baby will need milk when the formula runs out. Could you list what if anything we got in the wagon before Shane went down.

Where did Holistic Medicine come from need to look it up. And whats the plan with the next few days, Shane even with the best of both Tommy and sara is down at lest 3 days. We do not have to play those days out, I just need to know what your planning for em.

It's an Edge in the main rulebook. Were we able to fill up the wagon with anything before leaving.

When Tommy awakens
"Come on Bryan". "Help me get Shane up in the wagon". "Doc can help with these wounds". "They look pretty bad".'

Tommy will load up everything they have found so far, Shane, and his stuff, and quickly begin to make the way back towards the farm.

Field Medicine (1d10=9, 1d10=4, 1d10=9, 1d10=9)Tommy tries to treat the worst of Shane's wounds as Bryan gathers more stuff, and Greybeard patrols the grounds. (If Holistic Medicine Advantage helps he'll use it to double healing rate)

I think the game, world and system are really good for PbP we've just got to find the right players. If they're expecting a heavy combat game they will probably be disappointed, as combat is pretty deadly in Wod. I think the pace we're moving at now is good, and we can make this a good game. don't let it's slow start discourage you ;)

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

I'd forgotten about Greybeard. Any chance he gets involved? per the book he should have a 9L bite attack, and it looks like we could use him

Also, since the game pace has picked up might want to either try to bring back some of the old players, or recruit a couple of new ones. I think 3-5 players is fine for this type of game

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Seeing Shane fall Tommy charges one of the thugs standing over him. "It's not fair". "He didn't want to be here anyway".

Shane. In New WoD, almost all mods are to the number of dice rolled, not the resulting pips on the die. Don't forget you can spend a willpower point to add three dice to any roll, so you can offset this.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Seeing Shane taking a beating, and knowing things are getting desperate Tommy screams his war cry, and uses all his strength and concentration hoping to take down the foe in front of him, and maybe demoralize the rest of the thugs.

(8-dice, +2 for All-out-attack, +3 for will power point, -2 for defense = 11 dice)

Exploding dice (1d10=9)

For a total of 9-wounds (Lethal)

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy swings viciously at the man with his fireaxe. "You'd better get out while you have the chance". "You're going to end up like your friend there".

Fire Axe Attack (1d10=9, 1d10=3, 1d10=8, 1d10=10, 1d10=4, 1d10=3, 1d10=7, 1d10=6)

Exploding die (1d10=6)

(3) successes

Did I mention your horse representations are very life like and detailed ;-)

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy rounds the corner in time to see Shane send his arrow through the eye of one of the charging men. He then looses a arrow, before laying down his bow, and taking up his fire axe. He likes close combat better.

"Hi-Li-Li-Li-Li-Li-Lo" Tommy screams ha he looses an arrow, and begins to descend upon the ruffians.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy goes running outside at the shout, pulling his bow and nocking an arrow as he goes.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

I'm a little confused. I thought we were going to get Grandpa first, but I guess we can get him on the way back

"It looks like the looting has began". "We'd better get our share". "Lets head for the pharmacy, then family dollar, then rite aid". "We'll also the florist, and auto parts store on the way out".

I may even just travel at night to better avoid confrontations".

"I don't know if you want my opinion or not. But I think trying to take that haywagon into town right now would be a mistake. To many cars on the road. An the three of us won't be enough to defend it against any organized gang or such. That may see it's as the very valuable asset that it is"!

"Oh and who's going to watch your back while you sleep"? "Who's going to help you up if you fall down a ravine, or if you get attacked and injured". "You're not from here, and don't know your way around or have any friends you might call on".

"I understand you've got a mighty high opinion of yourself, and think you don't need anybody, but the way things are now you can't pick up your radio and call your superior officer for support". "And while we might not be up to your level of sophistication and training, I reckon we can hold our own".

"You helped us, and I'm trying to help you, but you make it very tough to like you"! Tommy is now getting his temper up, the veins in his neck starting to stand out.

"So just go on off by yourself". "Maybe if you don't make it to your sweetheart, and help her get down here where it's safe she'll still be OK, but I'm thinking you're kind of selfish thinking only about yourself".

Beside I thought riding shodded horses on pavement wasn't the best thing in the world to do. For both the horses or the riders.
A single man on a Mt. Bike, is alot more quiter then the lip clop of horses hooves on pavement. An alot less threatening to anyone they might come across. Perhaps you can accompany me as far as Mr. McCoy's and help him make his way back to his family here".

"Suit yourself". "Kind of a weird attitude for an army guy...most of them try to keep the squad together, and realize that a group is stronger than it's individual components, but if you want to go off on your own...knock yourself out". "The offer stands is you change your mind".

"And we don't ride the horses on the road, we ride on the side of the road". We'll go get Grandpa, and head back". "Also might want to resupply with at least some baby formula".

"John, you still got that old hay-wagon we used to haul the church Sunday school around in on Halloween". "Might be better to hitch up old Saul and use that, than individual horses". "Especially since we've got non-riders here". "We could also bring back more supplies, and even Grandpa and his stuff on board"?

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy smiles at Bryan, now more at ease since he knows Glenda and her family are safe for now.

"Well that depends on whether the horse likes you or not", Tommy replies with a teasing smile.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

I'm still all in. Maybe if we advertise for new players again we need to make it clear that this is a slow posting game. I'd like to see it go faster, but I've got other games, so can live with the slow updates

"It might be dangerous to go alone". "I know we kind of got off on the wrong foot and all, but I understand a man wanting to find his woman". Tommy looks at Glenda and smiles.

"I guess I'm kind of curious about how far this whole mess has extended, so I'd be willing to go along with you if you want", Tommy says turning to Shane.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy watches the escalating conflict with a shrug. He then whistles for Greybeard, and motions to Shelia, and Glenda. They begin to head for the farm, Glenda pushing the gurney, and Shclia carrying the baby...Hmm we need to name the poor kid.

"I was going to the Police Station to check on Chief Hale and Sam, the other Deputy. With no phones or anything, who knows what's going on. You guys mind swinging by that way?" questions Kyle, appreciative of the company in this strange, surreal situation.

Tommy stands up from the tangle of limbs, and bicycle parts, and points his finger at the offending cyclist. "You should be more careful". "What if you'd hit her by mistake, he says pointing to Shelia with the newborn held close".

He then turns to the new arrival. "I don't know if you've been into town, but things are in chaos, and I doubt you'll find your chief or anyone else for that matter at the jail". "They're probably out trying to restore order".

Are we already out of town heading towards the farm when all this happens, or do we still have to go by the jail. Tommy is determined to get the group to the farm before darkness falls. Also I'm assuming that the dog Officer Kyle commanded was his own. If so how does Greybeard react...or was this greybeard he commanded. Greybeard was not a police dog, just a farm watchdog that Tommy had kind of half adopted since the owners hadn't shown up to pick him up yet.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Before anyone can react, Tommy turns and begins grappling whoever has attacked him from behind (If he's not stunned that is).

"Hey get off me"! Tommy screams reaching for his knife.

Tommy would have given Glenda, and Shelia each one of the hatchets he bought, and also coats, and boots if they would fit. The sleeping bags are for them as well

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

The group will stay together on the road, pushing the gurney, and medical cart from the clinic. Shane will scout ahead, and Tommy will take up position at the rear of the group (Mainly so he can watch Glenda walk). Shelia, and the baby will be in the middle.

"Well do we head straight for the farm, or take the long way around". "I'm good either way".

Shane

Spoiler:
It amazes me that some people can turn their opinion into logical fact, but that's OK I don't have to agree with the player to play the game, and if you insist upon your superiority complex, I am a confident enough person not to care

I agreed we should take the long way and check out the other places on the way to the Wakeland farm...so I don't see why we're arguing there. I don't agree with not taking Shelia and the baby along.

First of all nowhere in the city is safe right now, and leaving them defenseless in a place with no power, defense, and that contains illegal prescription medication that some thugs might remember and do anything to get hold of is a bad idea.

The hospital, police department etc in the city are breaking down, and not of any use. We can't rely on them to watch after a woman and a baby, as they have much turmoil to deal with. Also leaving them here would not only endanger them...it's a temporary fix, and we'd have to come back here and deal with them anyway. The sooner we get everybody to a defensible position, with warmth, food, and transportation the better!

You imply that Sara would head for the clinic...well I for one don't think she would. She has a husband at the farm, and either he would come after her, or she would assume that I'd take care to go find her daughter, and head for the ranch. If we don't show up in a couple of days, or if there is anybody to send after us on horseback, then that is my interpretation of what she would do. If she was coming after Glenda first she would have borrowed one of the Conners horses, and already been to the school, or the clinic. She hasn't shown up yet, so I assume that's not her plan.

In my opinion, we head for the clinic stopping off to shop along the way, if Sara isn't there we leave a note about our planned route, and head for the Conner farm...(Which by the way I think she might already have left). We can also leave word with the Conners if Sara shows up there, then we head back to 15, and head towards the ranch....which should be our base of operations in my opinion.

I don't see how this isn't logical

Tommy begins to prepare a note to leave at the clinic.

Your borders and family are safe and together. We and some friends are heading towards your last appointment first, then home.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Logic and being a parent tells me that the Animal Clinic is not safe, as is nowhere in the city, with what's going on. Babies are a lot tougher than we as Americans give them credit for. Shelia can carry the baby close to her for warmth, and we've got enough clothes to keep everyone warm. If we go wandering off who's going to protect them at the clinic...plus it's a stopgap answer. We need to get everyone to a more permanent place to stay...we don't know how long things will be like this.

"Yeah". "We could take the long way and see if we meet up with the Doc along the way".

Shane...Our characters can disagree about paths in the game, but there's no need to imply I know nothing about parenting or am not logical. Lets keep things in character Huh?

DM...Yes I'm in favor of stopping at a couple of Pawn shops, as well as anything else that might be of use...Grocery, Convenience, Paint store (Plastic sheeting), etc.

"I really don't see a reason to separate". "Why don't we take one of these hospital carts, and a bassinet for the baby, and head towards the Conner farm". "I think we should also stop anywhere we can along the way and just take anything we need". "From the looks of things if we don't somebody else will". "We could spend a lot of time going back and forth between places, and not get anywhere".

"We don't know how long it will be till things return to normal, and I'm thinking our farm might be the best place to hold out". "It's a bit isolated, but has wood stoves to heat it and farm animals including horses which might be useful".

"I vote for heading by the Conner farm, then continuing on to our place". "If we don't find the Doc in either place, then at least we'll have a safe and warm base to work from".

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

"Shelia, are you saying the mother is dead" Tommy excitably askes?

assuming a positive response

"Come on". "We need to get away from here". "Shelia, bring the baby". "Do you know where there might be some baby formula"? Tommy quickly scans the area.

"If not we'll find some on the way". "Surely looters haven't targeted baby formula as a most desirable target".

Assuming Shelia follows along

"Do you know where the Doc was supposed to be yesterday afternoon"? "She didn't show up at the clinic, but I have a feeling, we'll find here either the last place she was supposed to go, or back at the farm".

"Here take some food, Tommy says, handing her some of their leftover food, and making sure to keep it hidden from the surrounding crowd.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy is looking for Shelia, and/or the woman/baby.

4d10 ⇒ (9, 9, 6, 4) = 28 Perception - 2 successes

"Come on Greybeard...Find let's find Shelia".

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

From Tommy's previous post, you'll have to hustle to keep up. He's already started that way

"You guessed it, firearm's don't work either. So what do you think about that Adam? Is there any logical theory that you know of that would cause that? That's why you haven't seen any law enforement officers on the streets. The Fireman I talked to said the hospital had started on fire during the night too".

Tommy grimaces at the news.

"We'd better hurry then, and see if Shelia knows where the Doc was supposed to be when this crap started". "We also should make sure she, and the Mother, and baby I worked so hard for are OK". "Damnit! What is going on"?

"One thing at a time". "Find Shelia, Find the Doc, Head to the farm". "Let's go, and Tommy picks up the pace".

Did Tommy's nightime tryst get him back a willpower point?

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

"Damn"! "That looks like it might be coming from the clinic". Tommy exclaims and takes off at a run, before noticing he had left the supplies behind. He then hustles back and begins to move the gurney and his gang as quickly as possible towards the fire.

"I hope Shelia, and the new mother and child are safe". "What is going on"?

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Is the smoke coming from something Tommy might recognize? Is it between the group and the clinic?

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

"Well no use staying around here". "Lets go by the clinic, and check on the new mom and baby, and see if Shelia remembers where the doc was supposed to be when this crap went down".

"We could stop by there first, and if nothings there we should head for the farm". "She'll go there if we can't find her knowing we'll eventually head there". "Besides the animals will need care today".

"If you guys have nothing better to do, you're welcome to come along".

Tommy then begins to load up one of the wheeled examination tables with the leftover food, and the shelf underneath it with medical supplies. He takes the key from the doc's desk and opens the prescription medical cabinet, and removes painkillers, and anti infection drugs, then covers the whole cart with sheets so the shelf underneath is hidden.

Then calling for Greybeard he leads the party towards the clinic.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy finally makes an appearance looking a bit flushed, and with a warm blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He is time to hear the end of the exchange.

"Hi". "I'm Tommy and I work here". There is some food over there, and a few blankets left". "Make yourself comfortable as you can, and we'll go find the Doc first thing in the morning".

Tommy then gestures at Glenda to return to the warmth of his embrace.

Your not sure just how far the school or the animal clinic is from where your at and Bryan's stomach is growling. They walk down Park road, standing outside a closed KFC. On either side of the road also stand darkened strip malls, small stores line the structures, dollar stores and clothing stores a music stores and what looks to be a kroger.

I am guessing your looking at about 2 miles or better without looking, whats the plan?

-------Tommy/Adam---------

As you go about fixing the place up for the night Glenda puts a candle in the window "I think mom my have stayed at her last call, it's cold out I am not sure she would have walked the 8 miles so close to dark" her breath sends small clouds of frost into the air as she talks. It's warmer inside the clinic and dry, but the cold still clings in here as well. With no heat you can feel the cold settle on your face, not as bad as outside, but it's not much warmer either.

"Yeah, but with the computer not working we can't see where she was when this all went down". "We'll find Shelia tomorrow, and ask her if she remembers where your mom was supposed to be, then we'll go find her at first light". "If we have no luck we'll just head for the farm, and hole up there till she shows up". "The animals will need some care by tomorrow anyway".

Tommy then begins to make a bed with room for two, as he's obviously got other things in mind than warmth.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

"Well it looks like they're safe". "I think we should just stay here for tonight". "If the hospital has warmth it will be crowded, and we would just be in the way". "Besides we should watch the supplies...who knows when the power will be back on". "With the blankets we got from Adam's house we should be warm enough".

"If the Doc shows up, she'll probably come here as well". "Should we light one of the candles and keep in in the window, so others will know we are here, or keep things Dark and silent"?

Tommy will look around for a metal sign, or something that can be made into a sled to haul their gear, then rig up a pulling harness.

5d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3, 1) = 14 Repair Item (Crafts + Dex)

Then will then head towards the Clinic taking the most direct route. Adam pulling the sled with assistance from Glenda, and Tommy walking a few steps ahead with Greybeard.

4d10 ⇒ (10, 8, 4, 10) = 32 perception (Composure + Wits)
2d10 ⇒ (7, 9) = 16 Perception overload (At watching his sled fall apart, and keep drifting off to one side as it's pulled)

Hi guys, if ya have not checked out the ooc thread I'll tell ya I have had family issues of late. I should be back up to speed now and able to update at lest once a day again

---------Bryan/Shane---------

You make your way toward the clinic but can tell the place is swamped, dozens of folks wait outside in the dark with no light from anywhere, but a few glows of what might be candles. You push you way though the crowed into a darkened waiting room, A few candles burn in here and you see injured people everywhere.

Someone in scrubs makes his way toward you."How bad is he hurt? " the man says holding up a candle, he looks tired and his scrubs are spotted with blood.

---------Tommy/Adam----------

The men listen to Adams words and seeing the axe in Tommys rather large hands and Greygard starting the growl at his feet nod. 'Yeah, us too" He says with a laugh "You should be careful out here, all kinds of unsavory types ya know" He says and nods as he and the other walk back down the ally, out of sight.

You arrive at Adams apartment with no other trouble and make your way inside, The temperature has started to drop and you see no one on the streets but a few flicking lights in mostly darkened windows. The apartment is only a little warmer then the outside, about 50 or so and dark, but at lest it is dry.

"Well I guess we either hole up here till daylight, or try to make our way back to the clinic". "It's still fairly early, and I'm sure the people back there would like to hear some news from the outside". "It looks like cold could be our biggest foe at the moment, and if possible lets gather up any winter gear you have, and all the blankets you have and head back to the clinic". "Also if you have any candles that would be helpful as well". "If we're going to head back, let's get a move on before more ruffians begin to roam the streets".
