About Tok Goldfist
Male Dwarf
Monk/2
Appearance
Tok is an average height, but leaner than most in his race. His black hair is neatly trimmed, as is his beard, which is shorter than a typical Dwarf's would be. His green eyes peer out from deep-set sockets. His skin is tanned from spending much of the past few years outdoors, traveling.
Background
Tok, the heir to a long-line of merchant families, traveled with his father for many years. Destined to follow in his father's footstep and take over the family trade. Tok was uninspired by this life direction, but felt obligated to respect it.
As a teenager, while visiting a large town, he happened to steal away for a few moments at the arena, where he witnessed a fight between an unarmed, unarmored monk and a heavily armored barbarian. The monk moved with fluidity and grace, easily dismantling the defenses of the barbarian and winning the fight - along with a healthy cash reward.
Tok was enamored - not only by the ease with which the monk fought, but by the potential of earning significant cash rewards by scamming people into fighting an innocent-looking, unarmed dwarf. At the next major metropolitan center, he ran away from his father, stole away with merchants bound for Vudra and managed (somehow) to convince the Irori monastery there to allow him to study.
Despite his originally ignoble intentions, Tok came to admire the discipline of the monastic order. He fell in line with the teachings, dedicating himself to the perfection of his warrior-art and becoming increasingly comfortable talking about his past life. One night, while confiding to his closest friend, a half-elf monk, he confessed his original intentions for joining the monastery. He was overheard by an elder, who reported Tok's words to the head.
His protests that he was deeply committed to the order were ignored. Tok was immediately expelled and forced to seek his own path. He made his way back to civilization, becoming a teacher of martial arts. After several years of aimless wandering, he arrived in Westcrown, hoping to find work as a teacher or bodyguard.
