M Human Fighter 1

'Tibbers? No one has called me that for years.' He startles suddenly at the girl's amusing nickname. 'Not since...' His musings are cut short as Grommuk correctly guesses that the previous comment was about him and calls Tiberius out.

He stands up, grasping his tankard again as he turns to the even taller half-orc. He stares at his ale as he ponders for a moment. All of this thinking seems to have sobered him up some. "I was not born hating orcs," he says after some thought, "and what was learned can be unlearned. But for now I'd consider your company to be... an acquired taste." He raises his tankard as well and his voice rumbles like thunder. "To cooperation against the real enemy."

I love the themes of cooperation and friendship as much as the next guy, but I think for now we'll have to settle for just grudging cooperation from Tiberius.

M Human Fighter 1

The large man takes Haroon's hand and gives it a brief but very firm shake. "The name's Tiberius Badaxe. It's good to meet you, Haroon."

He glances around as a shadow looms over him. A huge figure stands next to him, taking a stein from the bartender. Orc tusks jut from the stranger's mouth, and Tiberius's hair stands on end, his muscles immediately tensing. He slowly sets his mug down on the bar and turns back to Haroon, cracking his knuckles. "Then again, old prejudices die hard. Most people don't like seeing someone who reminds them of old enemies." He takes time to pick his words. Even drunk, he doesn't want an overheard phrase to cause a brawl.

Tesseract Squires wrote:
"So that's a tiefling," the girl mutters under her breath, and adjusts her glasses with one finger to get a better look. "I've read about them before. Why would he come to a town on the edge of the Worldwound so brazenly?" He's not dressed like a fool, but Karl always said money couldn't buy common sense.

Tiberius moves his head to the side some to not obstruct the girl's view; His own height lets him see the tiefling just fine. "We'd get half-orcs coming to Lastwall sometimes. Probably about the same reason. They chose their human nature. They just choose the side that they're more like, then fight off the other. Literally, most times." He ponders the newcomer through bleary eyes. "Can't say this one is trying very hard to fit in, though. I don't favor his odds."

M Human Fighter 1

@Tessarect, Haroon, and Alesie (before she bounded off to check out the tiefling):
Tiberius gives a deep chuckle. "What, can't a man just ask a question? My plan A on finding a demon would be to hit it really hard with my axe. I thought maybe the girl with the book would have some special trick to it." He raises his once again full tankard at the young girl, giving her a conspiratorial wink. "I guess we could both use a few pointers from those who know what they're doing. As I said before, I plan on finding a reputable battalion among the crusaders. I suggest you do the same. Who knows..." he trails off mid-shrug, noticing that most of the rest of the tavern has already gone silent.

There's a very good chance that Tiberius has never seen a Tiefling before, based on his backstory... I'll roll for it: 1d20 ⇒ 1. Not high enough, I'd say.

After watching accusations fly at the horned man, Tiberius thinks to himself, 'And here I was thinking the demons all looked like huge crazed vulture things. Is that a man turning into a demon? Or is he a demon turning into man?' His thoughts blur together in an alcohol filled haze. "Hey, what kind of demon is that?" he mutters to Tessarect and Haroon.

For reference: Depending on party composition, I may change Tiberius's build to battleaxe and shield if it seems he should be a bit tankier. I'm not tied down to the 2H axe thing.

M Human Fighter 1

An empty tankard slamming down on the counter interrupts the conversation about dinosaurs, followed by Tiberius calling out for another ale. He glances to his side as he waits, and does a double-take upon seeing Tesseract next to him, images from another time coming unbidden to his mind.

He speaks softly, his rough voice quieter than you've heard him this evening, "Hey, little miss fox. You talk pretty big for someone your size. Tell me -hic- what would you DO if you found a demon? You plan that far yet?" He stares at her inquisitively, and yet doesn't seem to be seeing her. 'She's the same age that Annie was,' he thinks to himself.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius blinks a few times once the girl looks away and glances down at his once again empty tankard. He couldn't have had more than four. Maybe five. Perhaps six, but who's counting? The bartender, obviously. The ale here must be particularly potent to be affecting him already. He lets out a belch and says, "Oh, I didn't mean you should go there, elf. The place is just on my mind, and the alcohol's talking. You know how it is. Now if you'll excuse me, that song the minstrel is playing about the saucy maid would sound better if it had a few more voices joining in on the 'Yo, ho, away!' part of the chorus."

Tiberius claps Carilain on the shoulder and gives him a grin as he walks past. He leaves the empty stew bowl behind on the counter and takes a fresh tankard of ale with him. 'Perhaps a festival is just what I need. A chance to take my mind off of the demons for a while. I should just try to enjoy myself for a few days.'

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius looks over at the nearby elf talking to Haizi and swallows a mouthful of hot bread sopped in stew. After washing it down with a swig of ale, he wipes his mouth on the sleeve of his cloak. He then turns to the elf and says, while making no effort to keep his voice down, "Odds are everyone in here has a reason to kill demons. If you just want military service, join up with Lastwall. They can always use fresh hands, and orcs are more predictable than demons. But we're here, which means we're all just mad enough to go demon hunting. I can't imagine anyone would make the trek up here just for the festival."

He raises his tankard in the direction of the young girl a few seats down. "Even that local girl, I'd bet, has a bone to pick with the demons. At the very least, wanting to keep their corruption at bay and away from your home, right?"

M Human Fighter 1
Haizi wrote:
"Oh, to be around my fellow humans. I aim to do many human things, like sleep in a bed, eat 'stu', and stare at books. Oh, and mate! Human women are very appropriate for me to mate with!"

Tiberius stifles a chuckle somehow. This man obviously doesn't live around other people, but speaks common well enough. "In my experience, Haizi, all of them things require money." He pauses a moment, considering. "Or charm for the women. They're both something both of us could use a bit more of, I would guess. So money it is. You have the look of a warrior about you, I should think. You should register for some of the tourneys they're holding for the festival. Could make quite a bundle if you win, eh?" He gives the smaller man a conspiratorial grin. "I'm hoping a victory in an arena would give me some notice by some bigshot crusader, maybe a nice position on a proper demon huntin' squad, right?" Tiberius gives out a deep throaty laugh.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius glances down at his hand, which Haizi seems to be making no move to shake. 'Something's strange about this one.' He turns his hand-outstretching gesture into a reach-up-and-scratch-his-own-head gesture. "Yes you are." After a moment of deliberating he continues, "So what brings you to town?"

M Human Fighter 1

It had been a long journey to Kenabres. Tiberius had checked into the inn during the early afternoon and collapsed immediately on the bed in the room provided. A several hour nap helped wipe the road weariness from his limbs, and now he was awoken by noises from the common room. He had been too tired to dream, so it was the best sleep he'd had in ages.

He dresses himself in his sensible clothing, leaving his armor and weaponry behind. It takes time to put on armor, after all. What's more important now is food! Tiberius finishes dressing and heads to the main hall, settling his cloak about his broad shoulders with the clasp his late father had given him many years ago.

Tiberius is rather tunelessly humming to himself as he enters the tavern part of the inn and walks up to the bar. He briefly gets the bartender's attention and retrieves a few coins to pay for what he hopes will be a hearty meal and a good ale. He's heard good things about the local brews. He glances around and down to see who his neighbors are. A motley company, to be sure. He extends a large hand at the nearest one in greetings. "My name's Tiberius. I caught your wolf's name, but what's yours?" Directed at Haizi, if you couldn't tell

If you're still accepting applications, which you seem to be, here's mine. Human fighter, Exposed to Awfulness trait. Information is in the alias. It should be all modified to fit this campaign.

I will be adjusting Tiberius Badaxe (human fighter) for this one. Alias should be updated by tonight. I'm available to post regularly.

I'd like to make my backstory coincide with Derosian's character. We're IRL friends looking to get in on a PbP together, if possible.

I was excited for a possible second shot for a moment... then I remembered that Mr. Badaxe is definitely not arcane.

Have fun with the game! :)

This is Castarr4. I'm remaking this guy as my application for this campaign. He's focused around his axe and over-the-top enthusiasm and attempted badassitude(badaxeitude).

He should be updated to level 9 soon, although his equipment may take longer to fix up.

M Human Fighter 1

Well, thank you for the try.

M Human Fighter 1

"Thank you," Tiberius says gruffly, relaxing a bit and cracking his knuckles as he follows the guard through the camp. Twenty isn't quite an army, and odds are against there being an Eagle Knight around, but things are looking possibly hopeful.

M Human Fighter 1

"Garick Blackstone. We heard he would be here. I'm his friend." Tiberius scans the faces of the guards, trying to see if he recognizes either of them. He stands carefully with his arms to his sides, trying to not betray that his hands are itching to hold a weapon.

M Human Fighter 1

Since we packed rations for the initial journey, and we lost some on the way from spoilage, I figure we'll end up trying a bit of hunting/gathering now in the forest.

Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

And apparently we move at half speed while foraging?

M Human Fighter 1

As the group travels along the road, Tiberius explains what he knows of the situation in Falcon's Hollow.

"...and that's why I don't trust anyone here but Blackstone right now," he closes. The party heads off the road several hours short of the lumber camp and heads into the forest to make camp, hopefully hidden from prying eyes. "I'm not sure if staying off the road will really help much tomorrow, since many of the lumber consortium members will be out in the forest itself."

See Tib's backstory for details.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius mutters back, "I'm not sure where else to find him, but we can't just break in with someone watching." He turns to face the approaching woman, trying to see if he recognizes her. "Can we help you, miss?"

M Human Fighter 1

My perception is... consistent, at least.

M Human Fighter 1

Oh yeah. Falcon's Hollow practically has its own book. Too bad I didn't use it at all when I came up with Tiberius.

"Sounds good to me. Stay alert." Tiberius cracks his knuckles and lumbers forwards down the road along the river. Upon reaching Blackstone's house, he walks up and gives a short knock on the door.

Perception on the way for anything unsual: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

M Human Fighter 1

That, sir, is a good question. He didn't give us an address, and you didn't mention anything about Tiberius recognizing the man or his name, so I assume I don't have any extra information. Blackstone might, on the other hand.

I figure Tiberius should also get the others caught up on what happened to him here a couple weeks ago.

As a note, I'm referring to Blackstone by his last name because his first name happens to be Garick, and that could get confusing to me pretty quickly.

As for approaching the town, I'd imagine towns focused around the lumber business wouldn't be walled, since you would probably have to move every few years to keep near the lumber camps. The camps here wouldn't move quite as fast, I suppose, since they harvest darkwood, which is harder to cut than normal timber. So a palisade could be within reason... but as we approach, do we see any sort of guards or a wall? Blackstone probably lives relatively near the center of town though, since a good place for an inn is on the main path to entice travelers, and he'd live close to his workplace.

M Human Fighter 1

"There's an older gentleman who I worked with. He was friends with my father during the war. Mr. Blackstone. He's always been good about keeping a finger on the pulse of the town. Since the tavern burned down, he's probably at his home. I hope. He's the only one in town that I know I can trust. The local sheriff is a good sort too, but I feel he may have too many from the slaver ring around him. He was working closely with Herod Grey, the traitor set in charge of the citizens' militia." Tiberius quickly describes a route through town to get to Blackstone's house that avoids the main square.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius's eyes shift back and forth as they approach town. "I find it strange that we haven't seen any foot traffic at all leaving Falcon's Hollow. Normally at this season we'd expect a few traders going back and forth in a last few days. Logging towns don't feed themselves very well, after all." He keeps his weapons within easy reach.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

M Human Fighter 1

Hmm, I think the RNG is being nice right now, so it can justify being really mean to us all as soon as a fight starts. So Dannic will be fine too.

M Human Fighter 1

"Bah. Food for the road should have harder bread. This stuff is already moldy! That's the problem." Tiberius says as he eats. He cracks his knuckles and finishes it off. "Well, what doesn't kill you..."

That night Tiberius makes sure to set a couple snares a ways from camp to possibly net some extra food overnight.

Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Survival check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

M Human Fighter 1

Assuming I could pick up rope and a shovel from among the loot, then 4 gp.

M Human Fighter 1

If you don't mind, Tiberius would have taken a few coins from that when the armor was sold to pick up things stated above. 4 gp, to be precise, assuming rope and shovel were among the goods lifted from the slavers.

Tiberius shrugs. "I already took the gold I needed. It seems to all be gone already. Perhaps it would be best if you held on to the money in the future for me.

This time, his confidence bolstered by the presence of allies and possession of a plan, Tiberius suggests that the group take the main road. The road may also bring other travelers along their path who may have good information on what's been going on lately.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius snaps off what he hopes is the proper salute for the occasion, thinking back to lessons from his father years ago. "Thank you sir. A warm place to sleep is appreciated."

Tiberius helps carry the gear that the others don't want over to the blacksmith's with Garreck. "See if you can get some coin from your master for these, and we can buy a few provisions for our trip in the morning. If any remains, we can give most of it to the freed men.

In the morning, Tiberius would like to purchase for himself enough rations to last the journey back to Falcon's Hollow, some rope, a shovel, and a shaving kit. Any remaining gold from his split he'll give to the freed people. Ready to go after that.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius blinks, suddenly realizing how long he's been on the road without decent rest himself. "Agreed, Fellorin." He relies on the other townsfolk to take care of the matter, though, since he's not familiar with this town's resources.

I don't think I need any of the slavers' gear. Maybe some rope and a whetstone.

M Human Fighter 1

Also, we can try posting our actions before our turns come up. It makes exact positioning and stuff difficult, but it should be fine.

And I'm fine with the GM rolling my saves for me if it speeds up play.

M Human Fighter 1

A growl rises in Tiberius's throat. "I know too well of this crime ring in Falcon's Hollow. It seems we have a common enemy." He turns to the others to explain. "Falcon's Hollow is organized differently than this town. To combat a recent rise in crime, a peoples' militia was organized to aid the office of the sheriff. I was part of the militia, but the whole thing was brought down mere weeks ago by a traitor from within. I ran here to gather aid. I have a couple leads, and the sheriff may well still be part of the investigation, if it still proceeds. He is a good man whom I trust. The leader of the militia, though... the town might not still be as I left it. We face danger, if you still plan to come along.

Tiberius goes silent, thinking about the man on the ground. How many others had turned to crime as a last resort? Could working harder have prevented this? Had our circumstances been different, I could have been this man, Tiberius realizes with a start. "I ask that this man's trial be delayed for a time so that the leaders may be brought to justice. It is they who must answer for these crimes."

M Human Fighter 1

I'm not familiar with the town, but we're heading back to town to see what the local judge has to say about the situation. After that, the group consensus is that we're going to try to get information from the slave driver on his family so that we can save them from retribution. Hopefully we can get this information from him before he hangs.

First thing to do is to get the freed people to safety.

That seems to be the plan, anyways. Tiberius isn't really good at making plans, but he's good at following them.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius shrugs at Garreck. "Oppression is one of the things in this world worth fighting against. The way I see it, whatever fate befalls this man's family is a result of his cowardice... but odds are they don't deserve it. He does. I'm not really good at plans though, so I'll focus on getting these people back to safety first."

M Human Fighter 1

Definitely still here. I'm trying to not be posting more than everyone else, though.

M Human Fighter 1

I've got nothing else for Tiberius. Don't want to rush the others if they want to do questioning first though of the slaves/slaver

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius stands, having freed the last slave. "I'm sure the local constabulary will meet your expectations. We'll know what we want before you hang." Disgusted that the scum still stands up for his employer, Tiberius goes up and punches him square in the jaw. He then turns to Dannic, pausing for a moment to think of what to say. "You did just fine, kid."

Probably 1d3 nonlethal? 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

So... if that knocks him out, Tiberius will start carrying him to town, asking the others to carry the scrounged equipment as we escort the slaves back. Otherwise, the guy can walk himself. With manacles on his wrists and ankles, of course.

M Human Fighter 1

"Good." Tiberius walks over with the key and starts unlocking manacles. "I wonder if this was the only group. Being from far away, that means that they're probably part of some organization. He probably knows something about that," he points over to the slave driver. "Either of you mages have a way of making people talk? I'd like a couple answers before we get him to a magistrate."

M Human Fighter 1

Hey, no problem. Good to have you back :)

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius walks around the battlefield, checking to see if the slavers are truly dead. As he goes around, he makes sure to check each slaver's body for anything usable, especially checking for keys and identifying items or marks, although the keys are probably on the slave driver. Tiberius wrenches his other throwing axe free of one of the fallen slavers, wiping the blood off on the man's coat. Such a waste of life... Last he checks the woman the slave driver had killed. "Who was she?" he asks of the group of slaves.

M Human Fighter 1

Status:
AC 14, touch 12, flat-footed 12. . (+2 armor, +2 Dex)
hp 10/13
Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +1
Wielding Handaxe and Throwing Axe
No current effects

I think I'm next. I thought I already took out slaver 1. If not, this attack roll is for him. If so, I'm going to charge the running slaver (4).

1d20+BAB+Str+charge: 1d20 + 1 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 4 + 2 = 13 to hit
1d6+Str: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 damage.

M Human Fighter 1

Now is when Fellorin's turn and the Daze would have technically happened, right?

M Human Fighter 1

I think you end up dealing 1 nonlethal or something like that.

So... my original plan was to use a two-handed axe, power attack, etc. Throwing axes are kinda fun though... but I don't think they'll scale well. Should I stick with my original plan or start picking up more throwing axe feats?

Decisions... we have a while until it matters, at least.

M Human Fighter 1

Tiberius grimaces as he blocks the slaver's dagger. "You're all going pay for what just happened back there."

He spins around, swinging his handaxe at the slaver next to him, then using his gained momentum to get a second slice in with his offhand.

dice!:

I'm not really built for TWF, so... we'll see how this goes. TWF penalties are -4/-8.
d20+BAB(1)+str(4)-TWF(4)
1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 4 = 8 to hit slaver 1
d6+str(4)
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 damage
d20+BAB(1)+str(4)-TWF(8)
1d20 + 1 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (20) + 1 + 4 - 8 = 17
d6+half str(4)
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 damage
Uh... confirming crit?
1d20 + 1 + 4 - 8 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 4 - 8 = 14
d6+half str(4)
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 extra crit damage

M Human Fighter 1

I'm going to admit that negative 1 damage is kinda underwhelming... but hilarious.

M Human Fighter 1

And if I may, since Dannic hasn't gone yet and I still have a move action (not sure if it's required or not): Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

Tiberius gestures towards the straw-haired one. "Look at his legs shaking. He hardly needed your whip's encouragement to fall down."

M Human Fighter 1

Supposing you could make iterative attacks, then it would be useful to 5-ft step in this situation. And yes, you could... but as it stands, just spending a move action to move would be just fine as well, unless you have something better to do with the move action (such as drawing an item)
