Radiant Oath 2/5

Hello. I would like to request a boon for the riding drake animal companion. Thank you.

There is already a Chronicle Boon for this, from a high-level scenario.

It's not explicitly labeled as such there, for spoiler reasons, but you can probably identify it if you read through enough listings.

My goblin champion is from the Dragonskull Tribe, so though he loved his wolf mount dearly, he just couldn't resist upgrading to an actual dragon!

Definitely that pearly white spindle! You can't always count on having a healer at the table, and when your healer is also the front line (like my champion is), it's good for healing up while you're busy patching up your allies.

Most of my PFS characters with enough levels and money to buy Sleeves of Storage have done do. My sorcerer has them because her Str is low, some of her tools are heavy, and she likes to have a few tricks up her sleeve (literally). My investigator is stronger, but carries a great deal more adventuring gear (tools, camping gear, extra quivers, etc.). And my goblin champion needs to shunt away as much weight as possible because his armor and weapons are already enough to encumber his poor, faithful wolf mount (and a bag of holding is still too heavy to help much).

Are you asking about 1E or 2E or both?

For 1E, the "We Be Goblins" series are the first to come to mind. Most players will have fun hamming it up with their goblins, and many of the encounters are on the wacky, absurd side, easily encouraging crazy shenanigans.

For 2E, there's #4-16: Dacilane Academy's First Great Prank War. The title says it all, really.

#4-03: Linnorm's Legacy is also on the wacky side. Babysit some young linnorms, you say? What could possibly go wrong?

Dogslicers are fragile because goblins discovered that if you drill a few holes in a blade, it weighs less, and is almost as good at killing as a full-weight weapon. When you're small, weak, and always hungry, every ounce of encumbrance matters!

Now, most PC goblins will try to acquire a masterwork dogslicer (which removes the fragile quality) as soon as they can, if they don't loot something better first. But few goblins are going to live long enough to ever get that chance.

There used to be some Radiant Oath boon that allowed changing a Battle Medicine CF->F. I'd like to see more of those - boons that enhance the use of a variety of skills, but not just in the Earn Income.

It's called Practiced Medic (spend downtime to "charge" it, expend it to improve a Medicine check by one degree of success). It's still available to Radiant Oath PCs, using ACP.

I would like more boons along the lines of that and Off-Hours Study. I believe most of the factions now have a boon that affects downtime activities, but more variety would be nice. Especially options that do something other than just giving a minor tweak to earning income or crafting.

I just made a post as my Radiant Oath PC in another thread, and his faction symbol displayed properly.

I checked my Characters list on my OP page, and none of them had a broken faction symbol.

[cue rapturous angelic note]

Praise be to Sarenrae, Triune, and whatever blessed goblins and skittermanders made this possible!

Just before Fame went away (a bit over years ago), I bought a stack of this boon after I ran out of other things to spend my healer champion's Fame on. It took him 2-3 levels' worth of downtime to charge them all up (so to speak), but it was very much worth it. He still has a few unexpended ones available, because I don't get to play him very often, and because Assurance now means he rarely needs the boost. (OTOH, now that he's a Master in Medicine, it's an easy 20 HP increase once a scenario, if he needs it.)

My -2001 is a mounted combatant, which is fun but has its own challenges. Thibdab is a goblin champion who took a wolf companion instead of a horse (as any self-respecting goblin would!) so he wasn't able to ride his buddy until it became a mature companion at 6th level (Loyal Warhorse champion feat). Now that he can finally ride Kazaam!, the action economy is MUCH improved! And he's only a couple levels away from being able to take Imposing Destrier (at 10th) which will help it further. (Other classes that get access to companions get equivalent feats, though likely at different levels.)

There are still some ongoing challenges:

1) Companions are very limited in what items they can use.

2) Keep the animal's Bulk limits in mind. My goblin is Small, but wears full plate, so even with almost all of his non-combat gear tucked inside sleeves of storage, his wolf is always encumbered (and thus clumsy 1) while carrying him. But I just factor that into the wolf's stat block, and in the very rare instances where he's not being ridden, treat the difference as a bonus.
