Randolf was always interested in street magic since he was a child. The greatest gift his parents ever gave him was a beginner's magic set. In no time, he was pulling rabbits out of hats and astounding people by performing various card tricks. Like most, as he grew up his hobby was pushed to the side, and he focused on trying to support himself, although his love of parlor tricks never left him.
He studied hard, but could not decide how to spend his adult years. Finally, after several failed ventures, he decided to open a small magic shop, selling items, performing 'crystal ball,' tarot card readings and the like. He managed to eek out a living, doing what he loved.
Randolf was working in the store late one night when a random person burst into the shop. He asked for a reading of his future and Randolf obliged, looking to make a few more bucks Lenore leaving for the night. After pulling out his crystal ball, the reading began. For the first time ever, instead of a parlor trick, the crystal ball actually showed images to the diviner. Terrible images of destruction and despair to the city were the major scenes revealed.
The stranger then began to speak to Randolf. "The city will need you, Mage. A storm is coming. Your powers might be the only thing that prevent those images from coming true. Harness your abilities and you can be the shelter this town needs from the storm.". With those final words, the customer faded from sight, leaving Randolf alone again in his shop. A crash of thunder triggered the magician to look out his window and a brief silver storm hit, lasting for only a short time, disappearing almost as rapidly as did the mysterious stranger.
Left in his mind was a basic idea of what he now could do. He has practiced his jinxes to the point that he is very proficient with them. He especially is fond of his Field of Darkness ability. Being able to blind a foe temporarily in darkness normally sets them up nicely for his followups.
